The quiet night began to feel eerie. But as unpleasant as it was, they still stood there with their own thoughts in mind.
And coincidentally, one of those thoughts just so happened to be regarding Kayn.
Kayn was still there, still waiting for whatever they were talking about to end. Because right now, all he really wants to happen right now, is for him to rest.
It's the middle of the night; who else would be awake at this point in time?
But Kayn's doubts still lingered with him, those thoughts that made it difficult to think about anything else.
And at that moment, something else came up in his subconscious.
I don't think he wanted any friends anymore. For his own sake.
Of course, the lack of connection, interaction, and honestly, companionship that he thought of, it was disturbing, but not as much as betrayal.
He understood what it meant now, and he realized those values and the risks involved in being careless and reckless. Just like how he was back then.
But I'm just not so sure about what this world had to say about it.
Would it leave him alone for their sake? Or would things intersect, and Kayn will be left with no other choice but that?
No one knows.
"Um... hey, Kayn, we just finished. Shall I properly introduce Rose to you?"
Out of the wind, Ruby peeked out of the side of the gate, looking at Kayn as she walked over to him, holding Rose over at her side.
Kayn was knocked out of his contemplation, as he looked at the both of them, but stared closer over to Rose. Who looked like she didn't want to be there.
Ruby nudged Rose for a moment before she straightened herself up, like nothing was wrong.
"S-sorry for the delay."
Rose muttered under her breath, fidgeting with her cloak before she took a small huff.
"I am Rose Accurcia, Scion of Inspection. I know what it means from a glance."
Rose made a formal introduction of herself, as her left eye subtly glowed alongside it. But at moments, it twitched like something was bothering her.
She was rather nervous for some reason. Just what did the two of them discuss? Kayn wondered about it, but there was no real merit in knowing, he presumed.
As Kayn listened to her, he kind of wished he could also make a formal introduction, but unluckily, he still didn't know his Dominion.
But something pulled him in. He knew Ruby was the Scion of Darkness. The Dominion of hers allows manipulation of visual senses of the sort, he thought.
But Rose was the Scion of Inspection? What does that even mean? Inspect what exactly?
Then Kayn noticed her left eye, glowing its signature yellow tint that accentuated her face.
Maybe that eye really is a part of her Dominion, which is different from Ruby.
But he still wasn't too sure about it. He wanted to ask her, but now might not be too good of a time to do so.
"Nice to meet you, Rose. Once again, I'm Kayn Adams. I don't know my Dominion as of yet, so I do apologize."
He was able to reflect her introduction back to her, a bit guilty about his circumstance right now.
Rose looked back at Kayn, her eye seeming to still glow like it did before. But for some reason, Kayn could tell that her hands were shaking just behind her. Why? Did he do something?
She held her breath, glancing back at Ruby with a hint of helplessness, before she gulped and dealt with it mentally.
Ruby also looked like she was thinking about something, her gaze a little more different than the way it was before. Like it was embedded with fear.
Kayn eyed the both of them, not because they looked nice, but because something was clearly off by the way the atmosphere was moving.
Every time they tried to glance even anywhere towards Kayn's direction, something stops them from really looking into his eyes.
Almost as if... they knew something about him.
Kayn knew this, as he tried making eye contact, to no extent whatsoever.
What was it about him that bothered them?
Breaking the quiet awkwardness, Ruby spoke up.
"Um... hey, Kayn. It looks like you have some unspoken questions. Care to speak your mind?"
Ruby addressed his obvious judgement on them, as she herself knew that she was becoming wary by every second that seemed to pass.
Rose instantly looked over at Ruby with wide eyes before Ruby reassured her with a nudge.
Kayn seemed to be delighted to hear that from her because he was starting to wonder about the Dominion of Rose. What it meant and how it worked. Especially that glowing yellow eye of hers.
With no other words that uttered afterwards, Kayn spoke his question.
"Rose, how does your Dominion work?"
He asked with a look of slight curiosity in his eyes because he connected something here.
If her ability was the art of 'inspecting' something or along those lines, then it would make sense that this person is the same person Ruby was talking about.
As she heard this, her heart felt like it dropped, looking at a million other directions other than him, before she knew that she had to answer. If it meant...
"M-my Dominion allows to analyze, inspect, and even gather information on a variety of things. That includes things, objects, artifacts, and even p-people... I do have my limitations, but since my Dominion isn't really fitted for combat, I'm usually at the backlines."
Rose made a brief explanation of her Dominion, fidgeting with herself the entire time, occasionally looking at Kayn's reaction over it.
This was some interesting information, which could prove useful. But just in case..
"Hey, Ruby. Is she the one you were talking about earlier?"
Ruby was suddenly met with that question as she stumbled over herself trying to reply back to him, quite shocked that he was actually able to tell over that.
"Why.. yes, indeed. She's very knowledgeable, and due to her Dominion, she's highly regarded in researches of Dominions and others alike."
She was able to answer him calmly, her throat beginning to stiffen because she realized something.
Kayn was rather glad to be able to hear that from her. Hopefully, this was a good thing for him because he wanted to understand just a little more about Dominions and this world with it.
But, little did he know, Ruby and Rose realized something that night.
Something they should've never gotten involved in, but did anyway.
And now, their very lives and potentially the world around them was at stake.
