Anne rolled her eyes as she answered, "Child, how are you doing? How is it over there?"
[Hehe, it's fine so far. I am settling in just well!]
Anne's eyes widened when she heard that. She couldn't help but ask, "Have you met the clan leader yet?" a question that everyone was interested in.
[Umph! Mom, you can't believe the audacity of that man. I haven't seen his shadow anywhere near the clan. They always say he is busy, but it's good that he is like that. I have time to look around and check the place for myself.]
Simon's eyes lit up when he heard that, he looked anxiously at his mother-in-law. As if she could sense what Simon wanted, Anne asked Gloria, "So, have you found anything useful so far?"
[Um … I don't know if this actually helps. But from what I have heard from the servants. It seems that the clan leader will be marrying someone soon. They are a bit too tight-lipped, so I couldn't find anything other than that!]
When the five heard that, they all didn't seem to fare well. Anne gritted her teeth, a glint of viciousness flickering in her eyes as she asked, "You really haven't heard who he is marrying?"
A regretful sigh sounded through the speaker as Gloria answered, [I will continue to look around and see if I can hear anything. At least, when I heard this, I felt relieved. I can now focus on spying and gardening. No need to worry about that man vying for me!]
Sia's hand clenched into a fist when she heard that, Simon had to pat her hand to console her.
Anne faked a chuckle, a sharp and cold glint in her eyes as she responded, "Okay, just continue being sharp and don't be caught. Remember, you are doing this for the clan."
[Hehe, I know Mother. For the sake of my marriage, husband, clan and everyone else. I will not let you down!] Gloria's voice sounded, sounding very determined. It made Simon feel guilty when he thought about how he lied to Gloria.
But when he felt his waist getting pinched, he quickly brushed that guilt from him.
He tilted his head to look at the chilli standing next to him and lowered his head to kiss Sia's forehead affectionately.
Only then did Sia smile and Simon was also at ease.
"I know dear and work hard. You will reunite with us soon."
[That's good. I have been trying to get hold of Simon and Sia these past two days but couldn't get through to them. So, tell Simon about this when you see him. As for Sia, just make sure that she is doing well. I will make everything clear to her when I come back. I feel very sorry for being cold to her when I left ….. sigh ….. she will forgive me, right?] helplessness could be heard in Gloria's voice as she talked about Sia.
Sia who had just heard her name being mentioned, flinched with guilt. Especially hearing the familiar love in her sister's tone but then the guilt vanished when she thought about something.
She hugged Simon tightly as if afraid that he would vanish and all that was being seen by Jack, Sia and Gloria's father, and Wendy, Simon's mother.
Anne also noticed that but was too busy with Gloria. "I will help you explain to her. Anyway, I haven't returned to the town yet but will do my best to call Simon and pass the information. He will be very grateful!"
[Hehe, I know. I will not let you down, this time, trust me!] determination and resolution could be heard in her tone. It made Anne feel panicked for a moment before she shook away that feeling.
"Okay, child. We will talk later. I need to call your father for lunch. He is out with his friends."
[Hehe, pass my greetings to him. Tell him that I miss him. When I return, I will bring a huge gift!]
"I will surely do so. Take care and don't forget why you went there!"
[Don't worry, I won't forget! How can I?] Gloria teasingly asked, her tone a bit sarcastic but none of the five took that seriously.
The call lasted for a bit while before it ended.
When it did, Anne wiped the sweat from her forehead.
"Damn! That was scary!" she cussed lowly but the people standing with her heard that properly.
Sia chuckled as she looked at her mother but didn't say a thing.
As for Wendy, a calculative glint was in her eyes as she randomly asked, "Who do you think that Xander is marrying? It can't be Gloria, right?"
Simon chuckled sarcastically when he heard that. "Mom, trust me. He can marry anyone else but not Gloria. He wasn't interested in marrying her. He just wanted her gardening skills!"
Wendy sighed with relief when she heard that. It would be very bad for them if Gloria married Xander. That clan was very powerful. If Gloria were to fall for Xander and learn the truth of the exchange, who knows what she would do?
There was no one who was as dangerous as a betrayed and scorned woman. They tend to do anything to avenge themselves. It would be bad for them. She couldn't risk it.
"That's good. As soon as she exhausts her usefulness, it's advisable to get rid of her lest it brings us trouble!" Wendy couldn't help but advise as she looked at Simon and then Gloria's parents.
Both Anne and Jack nodded in acknowledgement when they heard that.
Anne even opened her mouth and said, "Don't worry about that. We know how to handle her. She won't be able to do anything. You know how much she loves us!"
Sia nodded when her mother said that, agreeing to that.
That was Gloria's weakness. Her love was too much, and she tended to be too sentimental. As a result, her mind barely functions. As long as she remains that way, there would be nothing to be wary of.
Wendy seeing that everyone was in agreement, could only leave the matter there though inwardly she noted down that matter. She would find a way to deal with Gloria. Such a threat couldn't be left free. She wasn't going to let anyone ruin her son or the clan her husband painstakingly died for.
After the small chat, the five of them remembered that they were still heading home.
"Okay, now that you guys are finally married. Let's go back to the clan. The clan members should be tired of waiting by now!" Wendy smilingly said, recalling the celebrations that the clan members had prepared for this day.
Both Sia and Simon smiled beautifully when that was said.
"Indeed, let's go and celebrate! It's a wonderful day!"
The five of them cheerfully said, smiles on their faces and those passing them could tell how happy they were.
On the way to the awaiting car, a slight mishap occurred.
"Ouch! Can you look where you are going?" Anne screeched, as she angrily looked at the young lady in glasses, bowing apologetically after bumping into them.
"I am sorry. I didn't mean to!" the young lady apologized, trembling with fear, and her gaze full of guilt.
Sia, seeing that, couldn't help but want to maintain face.
She nudged her mother, who was gnashing in pain because of the clash, and softly said, "Mother, don't be angry. This big sister seems to be in a hurry. Moreover, we are at a corner. It must have been hard for her to know that there were people."
When Anne heard that, she knew that her daughter was trying to maintain face. She plastered a smile on her face and looked at the girl, who reminded her of that cowardly Gloria and clicked her tongue in frustration.
"Make sure to look where you are going lest you offend those you can't afford!"
The young lady seemed grateful when she heard that. She smiled gratefully at them and sincerely said repeatedly, "Thank you very much. Thank you!" and before they could change their minds, she hurriedly left.
Sia watched the other as she left, seeming to be in a hurry. Only after seeing her silhouette vanishing, did she sigh with relief.
It didn't seem right at all, but she just couldn't pinpoint where and how exactly.
Anyway, after the little drama, the two families brushed the matter aside and returned to the two cars that they came in.
Sia's family sat in one car while Simon and his mother were in another. With the two families arranged neatly, the two cars drove smoothly away from the Civil Affairs Bureau.
As the cars drove away, Sia couldn't help but enviously muttered as she looked at a particular black SUV which was parked just a short distance away from their cars earlier.
"I wish to drive a car like that one day!"
How could she not be envious? One day, when the clan was back on its feet, Simon would surely buy her everything that she wanted.
After all, she was now his wife and the mother of his only child. How could he not spoil her?
When thinking about that, she pushed the SUV matter out of her head.
Why bother with other people's things when she could have her own?
