Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Menma, Hold On, the Master Is Here

Just as Menma was about to suffocate, Tsunade finally released him.

His face was flushed red like a tomato, and he gasped for breath.

"Hahahaha!" Tsunade laughed out loud at the sight.

Menma slowly recovered, feeling like he had just brushed past death itself.

So this… is what it's like to be smothered by Naruto's future biggest boobs.

"Sister Tsunade, don't do that again," Menma warned, catching his breath—completely forgetting he was still within her reach.

Don't do it again?

Tsunade smirked. Now I want to do it even more!

She promptly yanked him back into her embrace.

Menma: "…"

He struggled uselessly, flailing his arms.

God, please help me. I don't want this kind of 'happiness!'

Finally, Tsunade let him go again.

Menma collapsed to the ground, inhaling fresh air like it was oxygen from heaven. He quickly scrambled a safe distance away.

Still panting, Menma glanced at the two massive reasons for his near-death experience. Curiosity got the better of him.

"Sister Tsunade… what did you eat to grow up like that? Why are they so big?"

Tsunade didn't even flinch. But next to her, Shizune went bright red.

She glanced at Tsunade, then down at herself…

Her face burned hotter.

"You're a cheeky one, aren't you?" Tsunade said, amused. "Why are you so curious? You're not a girl."

"No, I'm just preparing… for my future sister-in-law," Menma replied matter-of-factly. "I don't have a girlfriend, but I do have a sister-in-law."

Sister-in-law?

Tsunade blinked. Wait—he's just a kid. And his younger brother already has a girlfriend?

"Which girl?" she asked, now genuinely curious, though she figured he was just joking.

"The Hyuga Clan. Sister Tsunade, when my brother proposes in the future, you've gotta help us with the arrangements."

Menma was paving the way early. Though honestly, he might not even need help by then—his strength would speak for itself.

Recently, he could feel the chakra of the sun and moon inside him reaching a critical point.

Something big was coming.

"I got you covered," Tsunade grinned. "Just leave it to me."

The four continued traveling and chatting.

Well, three of them.

Jiraiya had vanished again, as always.

After two days of travel, the gates of Konoha were within half a day's reach. That's when Nine Trumpets suddenly warned:

"Brat, we've got incoming—enemies."

Menma froze mid-step. He hadn't sensed anything himself, which meant the enemy was still far out.

But he trusted Nine Trumpets one hundred percent.

Tsunade and Shizune noticed him stopping.

"What's wrong, Menma?" Shizune asked.

Menma didn't answer her. Instead, he spoke inwardly:

"How far? How many?"

"Ten kilometers out. Closing in fast. Three Jonin. Fifteen Chunin."

Menma's expression darkened.

What the hell?

With Tsunade nearby, this clearly wasn't about her.

That left one target: him.

And from that direction…?

Konoha.

So we're doing this already, huh? You haven't even let me return to the village before making your move?

As he was deep in thought, a smack! landed on the back of his head.

"Stop spacing out!" Tsunade scolded.

Menma refocused. "Sister Tsunade… we've got enemies coming. They're after me. You and Shizune should go ahead."

He didn't know if Tsunade still had symptoms of hemophobia, so he'd rather not take the risk.

Tsunade immediately extended her perception range.

A few seconds later, her expression turned serious.

"…There are chakra signatures heading this way. Who the hell are they? This is Fire Country territory."

"How did you even know they were there?"

Menma didn't answer.

Tsunade narrowed her eyes. "Brat… who did you piss off?"

Menma chuckled. "Who else? And look—ten kilometers out, that direction—"

Only one possibility:

Konoha sent them.

The moment he spoke, a fiery orange chakra coat flared around him.

"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

Back in Konoha, inside the academy classroom, Menma's clone sitting next to Naruto vanished in a puff of smoke.

"Brother?" Naruto blinked, confused.

Iruka paused mid-lecture, stunned.

That Menma… was a clone?!

Elsewhere in the forest behind the village, two more clones dissipated as well.

Their memories flooded into the main body.

Seeing Naruto smiling and happy in those memories, Menma exhaled deeply and smiled.

Good. At least he's been doing well.

"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

Four shadow clones appeared instantly—each radiating chakra at Jōnin level.

Menma grinned.

You're sending 18 people to deal with me? Not enough.

"Don't rush in alone!" Tsunade warned.

"Sister Tsunade," Menma said coldly, "if Konoha sent these people to kill me… who exactly am I waiting for to rescue me?"

His clones scattered, setting up ambushes.

Tsunade clenched her fists.

She hated this. Hated that she couldn't fight—because her trauma hadn't healed. Her fear of blood still froze her.

"Sister Tsunade, I'll be fine," Menma said gently. "You and Shizune go ahead."

Then he disappeared into the trees.

"Master Xu, he's on the move!"

"Don't let him get away! Go!"

Menma kept moving, with Nine Trumpets tracking the enemy.

"Let me out," Nine Trumpets grumbled. "I'll handle this. I was reading. This is a waste of time."

"No. These guys are perfect for warmup."

"Don't call me if you start losing."

"Please, I've got you. You're the strongest tailed beast out there. No way I'd waste your time on these nobodies."

"Hmmph. I like that attitude."

Nine Trumpets smirked.

"They're one kilometer away now."

"Got it."

Back with Tsunade, Jiraiya suddenly appeared.

"Where's Menma?" he asked urgently.

"I think Konoha just tried to assassinate him," Tsunade said grimly. "Go help him!"

Without another word, Jiraiya blurred out of sight—vanishing in an instant.

Menma, hold on.

Your master is on the way.
