Chapter 47: Brock vs. Giselle (2)
The Flamethrower passed right over Dragonite. After the flames dissipated, Giselle looked at Dragonite, her eyes wide. She rubbed her eyes, unable to believe what she was seeing was real. On the field, Salamence, witnessing this, was stunned and then seemed to lose confidence, losing its will to battle. Yes, this Flamethrower attack also hadn't caused any damage to Dragonite.
Dragonite remained standing motionless on the field; the two previous attacks hadn't affected it at all. Just then, Brock, having understood the situation about the giant Dragonite appearing as a normal-sized one, exited his mindscape. He saw the scene on the field: Dragonite standing there seriously, unmoving, while Salamence on the other side looked like it had lost the will to fight.
After observing this, Brock, looking utterly clueless, said to Giselle, "Giselle, what's going on? Weren't we supposed to battle? Why haven't you started yet?!"
Hearing Brock's words, Giselle pointed angrily at Brock and sputtered, "You... You... You're too much! I'm not battling you anymore!" After speaking, Giselle recalled the Salamence from the battlefield and stormed off in a huff.
Watching this unfold, Brock was left completely clueless again. "What just happened?! She was the one who wanted to battle, and now she's the one who doesn't want to battle?! What did I do wrong?" After pondering this, Brock looked at the Dragonite on the field. From what I understand, this is the giant Dragonite. Since being captured into the system, it gained this ability to change size. Using it in battle... if it suddenly grows huge, it could startle the opponent! When the opponent hesitates, I can attack! This strategy is so shameless! But I like it! Having thought this through, Brock recalled the Dragonite from the battlefield, then headed towards the Vermilion Gym.
By now, Brock had arrived at the entrance of the Vermilion Gym. Pushing the door open, he immediately heard a familiar voice shout, "Pikachu! Dodge quickly!" Brock walked towards the direction the voice came from.
When Brock got there, he saw Misty, Melanie, and Daisy sitting in the audience seats. On either side of the battlefield stood Ash and a young man. Two Pokémon were also on the field: Ash's Pikachu and the young man's Raichu. Clearly, the shout earlier had come from Ash.
Subsequently, Brock also walked over to the audience seats. Melanie, who had been watching Ash's battle, suddenly looked around and saw Brock walking towards her. As Brock walked past her side, she asked in a friendly manner, "Brock! You're here!"
"Yeah. Melanie, how long has Ash been battling the Gym Leader, Lt. Surge?" Brock asked Melanie after finding a seat and sitting down. He then turned his attention to the battlefield.
Meanwhile, this scene was unfolding on the battlefield: Pikachu was using Quick Attack to dart around Raichu. Raichu, lacking Pikachu's speed, could only clumsily try to swat Pikachu with its tail. But Pikachu was too fast; Raichu's tail kept missing Pikachu entirely. Pikachu seemed to be playing with Raichu like teasing a dog.
Lt. Surge, standing opposite Ash, couldn't stand watching this any longer. He commanded his Raichu, "Raichu! Use Thunderbolt!"
Hearing its master's command, Raichu unleashed a powerful electric current from its body. The current surged straight towards Pikachu. Seeing this, Ash commanded Pikachu, "Pikachu! Jump quickly and dodge!" Subsequently, just as the current was about to hit Pikachu, Pikachu leaped up and dodged it.
Brock watched this scene, stunned. He thought, Thunderbolt's accuracy should be 100%! Why didn't it work for Ash just now?! Sigh! Maybe it's because he's the protagonist of this world! That protagonist halo is too powerful!
Lt. Surge, battling Ash, was also stunned by this scene, but he quickly recovered. Seeing Pikachu jump into the air, he recognized it as a good opportunity. He then commanded Raichu, "Raichu! Good chance! Quickly use Thunder Punch on Pikachu!"
Hearing Lt. Surge, Raichu immediately used Thunder Punch on Pikachu. Electricity crackled around Raichu's fist as it charged towards Pikachu. In the audience seats, Misty saw this. Believing Ash was about to lose, and afraid he would, she covered her eyes with both hands. But she still wanted to see the result, so she secretly opened her fingers just a little, allowing her to peek at the events on the battlefield.
Seeing this, Ash knew that if Pikachu was hit by this Thunder Punch, it would definitely lose its ability to battle. Suddenly, he thought of a plan. He commanded Pikachu, "Pikachu! Use Iron Tail! Then use the force to bounce off!"
Hearing Ash's command, Pikachu used its tail while still in the air. Pikachu's Iron Tail collided with Raichu's Thunder Punch! Pikachu instantly bounced off from the impact and landed back on the field. Just like that, Pikachu subtly dodged Raichu's attack.
Watching this scene, Brock thought, Ash... he's grown! He understands how to use moves to evade enemy moves now!
Suddenly, a "Ring~ Ring~" sound came from Brock's pocket. Hearing the sound, Brock took out the cellphone he had bought at the shopping mall yesterday, then walked to an empty area of the Gym.
Brock answered the call and had just said, "Hello! You—" when the voice from the phone interrupted, "You brat! What took you so long to answer the phone?!"
Hearing the voice, Brock said to the caller, "Dad? I was busy, that's why I answered late! Besides, Dad, did you need something?" Yes, the person calling Brock was his dad, Flint.
Just as Brock finished speaking, Flint's voice came through the phone, turning serious. "Son, I have something to tell you. That person you found, named AJ... he's not an undercover agent from another family. Furthermore, his potential is quite good; he has the possibility of becoming an Elite Four level trainer. However, he seems to have something weighing on his mind, which has caused him to be stuck at the late stage of the Elite Trainer rank. You can entrust him with responsibility."
After hearing this, Brock thought for a moment, I should help AJ out when I have time! After all, he's my subordinate now. Having thought this, Brock asked Flint on the phone, "Dad, besides this matter, is there anything else?"
Just as Brock finished asking, Flint's voice came again, "Son, my own strength has been stuck at the late stage of Pseudo-Elite Four for a long time. I want to go to Mt. Elite Four to see if I can achieve a breakthrough. Therefore, I'm leaving the Gym in the care of AJ and your younger brother, Forrest."
Hearing Flint's decision, Brock then asked, "Dad, where is this Mt. Elite Four? How come I don't know about it? Also... is it dangerous there?"
After Brock finished speaking, another sentence came from the phone, "Son, don't worry about these things. Your strength isn't there yet; knowing about this wouldn't be good for you. I plan to leave the day after tomorrow. Also! If you have time, come home and visit more often." Just then, the sound of the call disconnecting came through the phone.
