Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Seoul August 3,2018

" This is my last mission. I want to finish it as quickly as possible... But things have never been that simple"

Just as he completed the mission, a voice echoed, causing him to turn around.

" Kang Kaito, who are you really? A normal high school student, or someone else entirely?"

~ Two hours ago ~

The two friends sat close together, chatting casually to pass the time before class. Yoon Haneul, with a sleepy face, said " I don't want to study, I'm starving " The other girl replied" then let's go eat, I'm hungry too!"

When the beautiful girl enterd the class, her name was Yuna. The boys all glanced at her, their eyes following every step she took. The two girls sitting nearby felt overwhelmed by the excessive attention . They said nothing, only silently exchanged glances, as if understanding that life was truly unfair." Suddenly, I'm not hungry anymore," I said. The other girl responded, " Yeah, me too!"

Yuna sat down, completely ignoring the looks from the boys directed at her. As Yuna was surrounded by the gazes of the boys, a tall figure suddenly appeared at the classroom door . Everyone instantly fell silent, their actions coming to a halt. As he stepped inside, the atmosphere changed completely.

Kang Kaito is a new student who transferred here a month ago. His face always carries a quiet, serious expression, and he rarely speaks, which makes no one dare to approach him. Part of it is due to his towering height, and part of it is because of his mature looking face. He looks more like a 23-25 year old man rather than a 17 year old high school student. Over time, people gradually became afraid of him and started keeping their distance. Before that silence, he didn't care much. He slowly walked into the classroom, each step feeling heavy as if his feet were chained with iron. He sat down with a calm expression like some 30- year old middle aged man, two minutes of silence passed, then the class turned noisy again. Teenage girls sneaked glances at him with twinkling eyes and blushing cheeks, clearly crushing on that mature look. The boys though? They were all scared stiff like he was their dad or something. Seventeen, really? That face looked old enough to have fathered them.

" Hey guys, it's the last period already and you still have the energy to be noisy? Focus on studying for me. The teacher said she's busy, so I'll be in charge of the class". In the class president Bora 's hands was a stack of test papers," I'll return the tests now, when I call your name, come up to get it". " Kaito, what happened? Why is your score so low?" Class president Bora was always such a strict girl.

" Do you even know what you did wrong? You made a mistake here, and here" she pointed at the grammar and letters on the paper. " Don't just stare at me like that - look at your paper!"

Kaito 's head was buzzing. Remembering the correct grammar of a sentence wasn't easy for him. He was too old to memorize it all again, and too busy to relearn it.

" Go back to your seat. Next person, come up".

Kaito opened the door and walked out of the classroom, leaving behind the stunned faces of his classmates and the twisted face of the class president.

" Who do you think you're acting cool for?!"

He stepped out of the classroom, ignoring the class president's shouting. His feet kept moving until they stopped in front of a tightly closed room. The door wasn't locked, but it was firmly shut. Kaito used force to fling it open. As it burst wide, the stench of blood and rotting flesh hit his nose. He exhaled sharply and brushed a hand through the air as he stepped into the room.

"Playing hide and seek? That's enough. Still hungry? But I don't have much time for you," he offered calmly, though the room remained silent.

His hand reached into his pocket, pulling out a pack of cigarettes. He put one between his lips. The sound of a lighter echoed with a few sharp clicks in the quiet space. Suddenly, something lunged at him. Spider-like threads closed in from all directions. The lighter flared, then went out abruptly. His eyes narrowed, then opened again.

" You really don't know your place, do you?"

The black shadowy creature darted straight toward him. Its fur was white as snow, covering it from head to toe, leaving only two pitch-black eyes and sharp fangs exposed. It lunged from above, aiming to pounce on him.

Thud!

It crashed helplessly onto the ground.

He had brought it down with just one hand—without even seeming to move.

The monster whimpered like a dog under his foot. Kang Kaito, still holding a cigarette between his lips, stared off into the distance with disinterest, his eyes empty, as if none of this was worth a second thought, ignoring the sounds below.

It was too weak.

No wonder it couldn't hunt and had to hide in a place like this.

His foot pressed down on the creature again, making it cry out in a shrill, pitiful tone—pretending to be innocent. Yet it had devoured countless lives.

Its mouth moved, lips pouting as it whimpered, "Hungry… eat… eat…" as if afraid no one understood it. It pointed to its mouth, opening it slightly.

Kaito frowned slightly, but gave it no further attention.

"This is my final mission. I want to get it over with as quickly as possible... But things are never that simple."

Just as he completed the task, a voice made him turn around.

"Kang Kaito, who are you really? Just an ordinary high school student... or someone entirely different?"

Bora's gaze dropped to the thing lying at his feet.

"What the hell is that?" she grimaced.

What on earth is happening at this school? That monster, those threads, and the stench—was that human blood?

"Can you tell me, Kaito?" she repeated, her voice a mix of confusion and fear.
