By evening, Jonathan heard the doorbell ring, signaling the arrival of the job applicants. He made his way to the door, expecting to see a mix of men and women vying for the positions of cleaner, cook, and driver. However, when he opened the door, he was surprised to see two men and a young girl standing before him.
The two men appeared to be around his age, while the girl looked significantly younger. Jonathan's initial plan had been to hire a guy and two ladies for the positions, but it seemed that fate had other plans. Despite the unexpected turn of events, Jonathan welcomed them into his home, inviting them to take a seat.
"Please, have a seat and hand me your resumes," Jonathan instructed, trying to maintain a sense of professionalism despite the unusual circumstances.
As he began to review their applications, Jonathan's confusion deepened. The two men had applied for the cook and cleaner positions, while the young girl had applied to be his driver. Jonathan's eyes widened in surprise as he looked up at them.
"I apologize, but you three aren't exactly what I had in mind for these positions," Jonathan explained, trying to let them down gently.
However, the young girl, Elisa, was not one to give up easily. She immediately knelt down, her eyes pleading with Jonathan.
"Sir, please reconsider," Elisa begged. "I've been driving since I was 20, and I have a valid driver's license. I've also been working as a part-time taxi driver for three years, but I'm looking for a better-paying job. This position would mean the world to me, sir."
The two men followed Elisa's lead, pleading their cases and explaining why they were the best fit for their respective positions. Jonathan was taken aback by their desperation, and his resolve began to weaken.
"Fine!" Jonathan exclaimed, throwing up his hands in defeat. "You're all hired, but on one condition: you're all on trial for the first month. If you don't perform to my expectations, you're out. Do I make myself clear?"
The three applicants nodded eagerly, relief written across their faces. Jonathan couldn't help but feel a pang of doubt, wondering if he had just made a huge mistake.
After dismissing the applicants, Jonathan called his assistant and instructed her to brief them on their salaries and benefits. He also asked her to show them to their respective rooms, ensuring they had everything they needed to settle in.
As Jonathan watched them leave, he couldn't shake off the feeling that his life was about to take a dramatic turn. The arrival of these three strangers had brought a sense of unpredictability into his life, and Jonathan wasn't sure if he was ready for what lay ahead.
Despite his reservations, Jonathan knew he had to move forward. He had given them a chance, and now it was up to them to prove themselves. As he retreated to his room, Jonathan couldn't help but wonder what the future held for him and his new employees.
As the assistant finished showing Ray, Hector, and Elisa to their respective rooms, they couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder. The rooms were elegant and spacious, exceeding their expectations.
Ray, the cook, was particularly impressed with the kitchen. "This is amazing!" he exclaimed, his feminine nature evident in his excitement. "I can already imagine the delicious meals I'll be preparing for Mr. Costello."
Hector, the cleaner, nodded in agreement. "I'm impressed with the cleaning supplies and equipment," he said. "I'll make sure to keep this house spotless."
Elisa, the driver, smiled quietly to herself. She was still trying to process the sudden change in her life. As the first daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, she had always felt a sense of responsibility towards her family. But after her mother's illness had left them bankrupt, Elisa had been forced to take on a new role. She had to step up and help her struggling father with the bills.
As they finished their tour of the house, the assistant handed them each a folder containing their employment contracts and other necessary documents. "Please review these carefully and let me know if you have any questions," she said.
With that, the three new employees bid each other farewell and headed back to their respective homes to inform their families of their new job and gather their belongings.
Elisa's father was hesitant to let her take the job, but he knew she needed it. "Be careful, Elisa," he said, his voice laced with concern. "You're all we have left."
Elisa nodded, feeling a pang of guilt. She knew her family wouldn't want her to be a live-in driver for Jonathan Costello, but she had no choice. She needed the job to support her family.
As the sun began to set, the three employees returned to the Costello estate, eager to start their new jobs. They were greeted by an empty house, but they didn't let that deter them. They immediately got to work, each one focused on their respective tasks.
Elisa washed and polished the cars, while Ray prepared a delicious meal from the menu and ingredients provided by the assistant. Hector, meanwhile, set to work cleaning the house from top to bottom.
As the hours passed, the house began to transform. The floors sparkled, the windows shone, and the aroma of Ray's cooking wafted through the air.
Jonathan, who had gone out to visit Dave, returned home frustrated and distracted. He had forgotten that he now had employees living in his house, and he was taken aback by the warm welcome they gave him.
As he entered the house, he was greeted by the delicious aroma of Ray's cooking and the sparkling cleanliness of the house. His frustrations began to melt away, replaced by a sense of gratitude and wonder.
"Welcome home, sir," Elisa said, smiling as she greeted him.
Jonathan nodded, feeling a sense of awkwardness. He wasn't used to having people around him, and he didn't know how to react.
Ray, sensing his employer's hesitation, stepped forward. "I've prepared dinner for you, sir," he said. "Please, come and eat."
Jonathan followed Ray to the dining room, where a delicious meal was laid out before him. He ate in silence, savoring the flavors and textures of the food.
As he finished his meal, Jonathan felt a sense of peace wash over him. He knew he had made the right decision in hiring Ray, Hector, and Elisa. They had already brought a sense of warmth and comfort to his home, and he was grateful for their presence.
But as he looked at his employees, who were standing in line waiting for his dismissal, Jonathan's expression remained stoic. He didn't want to show his appreciation, not yet. He wanted to keep them on their toes, to make sure they knew who was in charge.
"Thank you," he said finally, his voice gruff. "You may go."
As his employees dispersed, Jonathan couldn't help but feel a sense of hope. Maybe, just maybe, this was the start of something new, something better.
