Chapter 28 - Whips of Frustration

The wind sprite's aid drew the Gunnhildr tribe back to Old Mond, cloaked in secrecy.

Gunnhild herself, now a seasoned leader, stood at their helm.

A fresh legend teetered on the brink, ready to blaze.

Readers' pulses raced, excitement surging through their veins.

But then they noticed—only two pages remained.

A chill of dread slithered down their spines.

They'd devoured the volume too fast, caught in its grip.

Fingers trembling, they flipped to the end—and froze.

"This volume ends here!" the lone line mocked.

Three words stabbed like icicles, snuffing their fervor.

The heat of battle cooled to a bitter, hollow ache.

Wails erupted across Mondstadt, a chorus of anguish.

Sighs mingled with shouts, frustration boiling over.

"This Wind Knight's a menace!" a baker roared, fists clenched.

"Why stop there? It's torture!" a seamstress groaned.

That suffocating limbo—neither up nor down—gnawed at them.

Who taught Ye Ruo this cursed art of breaking volumes?

Whoever birthed it deserved a cell and a lash, they fumed.

Every climax, every peak, he'd slam the door shut.

He'd tease their hearts, then vanish like a gust.

It was villainy—pure, unadulterated evil.

Marjorie, the trinket shop owner, slumped in her chair.

Her father led the Adventurers' Guild, hauling back treasures.

She'd spun those tales into her store, a cozy haven.

Ye Ruo's books lined her shelves, a proud display.

Now, she stared at the page, fury bubbling up.

"Damn it—if I had Eula's grace and charm," she growled.

"I'd nab Ye Ruo, chain him in a dark room," she plotted.

"No food 'til he cranks out ten volumes a day!" she snapped.

"Slack off? I'd crack a whip—move it!" she huffed.

"This cliffhanger's vile—a week's wait is agony," she lamented.

She'd seen Ye Ruo and Eula spar in the wilds.

Both knights, fierce and swift, carved a striking pair.

He'd softened folks' views on Eula, melting old grudges.

Her Lawrence name once barred her from shops and meals.

Now, Marjorie nodded at her with quiet respect.

Gossip painted them a duo—talent and beauty bickering like lovers.

Their captain duties split them, but the bond held.

Others echoed Marjorie's rage, stewing helplessly.

They couldn't touch the culprit—just seethe in place.

Ye Ruo sneezed thrice, oblivious to their wrath.

Lisa, lounging in the library, let out a sultry chuckle.

"Reminds me of teasing Ye Ruo—leaving him hanging," she purred.

"His face back then? Priceless," she recalled fondly.

"He's picked up some tricks since—gone rogue," she mused.

"Did he swipe this cliffhanger stunt from me?" she wondered.

She shrugged—blame wasn't hers to claim.

A week's wait? She had naps, tea, and early exits.

Her days flowed easy—novels could simmer.

If Ye Ruo stalled, she'd prod him in person.

A sly smile curled her lips as she sipped coffee.

This volume unveiled a war's gritty dawn.

"Those tyrant lackeys—vile, stomping the weak," a smith spat.

"Gales knock you flat, and they still kick you down," a guard cursed.

"They're not human—just greedy beasts," a florist sneered.

Life in Old Mond was a brutal grind.

Yet these enforcers preyed on their own kin.

No—kinship meant nothing to those jackals.

They'd scoff, "Who's 'one of us'?" with a sneer.

The thought stoked deeper loathing in readers' hearts.

But the rebels' Night Raid? A thrilling twist.

"Assassins picking off the top dogs—brilliant!" a kid cheered.

"Night Raid's name cuts sharp—pure assassin vibe," a poet praised.

"It started slow, but now? Hooked," a merchant admitted.

The cast grew—names heavy with legacy.

"Gunnhild's Jean's ancestor—no surprise there," a scholar noted.

"Amos? Vague, but maybe a hunter's line," a hunter mused.

"Ragnvindr—red hair, sword? Diluc's kin!" a barmaid gasped.

"Dawn Knight Ragnvindr's root, way back!" a drunk corrected.

Historians leapt in—time mattered here.

"The Dawn Knight shone when Vanessa forged the Knights," one clarified.

"Ragnvindr's a family tag—Diluc's full name's proof," another added.

Demon War tales blurred, but lineage rang clear.

The system buzzed, Ye Ruo's fame a swelling storm.

His quill lit a fuse—Mondstadt burned for more.
