Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Welcoming Reception

I was completely puzzled—could it be that my spiritual vision had malfunctioned?

At that moment, the red light turned green, and my second uncle pressed the accelerator, speeding the car forward. In a serious tone, he said, "The money from Mr. Wang's family is hard to earn, but this deal is very important to me. Mr. Wang is quite a prominent figure in the provincial capital. If I close this deal, my reputation will skyrocket."

As the old saying goes, "Fame makes one feared, while pigs fear growing too big, and men fear being poor, women fear being fat." However, the world of feng shui and geomancy is exactly the opposite.

The bigger the name, the faster the money comes.

But instead of focusing on making money or building connections, I was more curious about what exactly had happened in Mr. Wang's family.

But my second uncle changed the topic, saying, "Let's talk about that later. Tomorrow morning, I'll take you to see for yourself. By the way, tell me about this Huang... Huang Xian thing."

When Huang Jiu heard my second uncle mention it, he eagerly popped his head out of my bag and introduced himself, "Uncle, my name is Huang Jiu."

My second uncle, who had never been called "Uncle" by a yellow weasel, looked somewhat taken aback but, being in this field himself, was able to accept it and nodded awkwardly in response.

I skipped the part about coming from the deep mountains and quickly explained everything—the story of Huang Jiu and the female corpse. I also didn't hide the matter about Liu Changxuan and his disciples. I expected my second uncle to become anxious, especially since I had gotten involved with such a powerful figure.

But to my surprise, my second uncle remained calm and reassured me, "Don't worry. This is a big city, and things work differently here. Besides, if anything happens, I'll have your back."

Although my second uncle didn't have much formal training, hearing him say this made me feel warm inside.

Sometimes, support from family means more than anything else.

My second uncle parked the car in front of a restaurant and Huang Jiu wisely hid inside my bag.

We entered the restaurant, and my second uncle ordered a private room. Once the server left after serving the dishes, Huang Jiu eagerly climbed out of the bag and started drinking from a teacup without any hesitation.

"I'm dying of thirst!" After finishing, Huang Jiu sighed contentedly.

My second uncle studied Huang Jiu and asked, "Yangyang, have you ever considered becoming a 'Dumaxian' with Huang Jiu as your partner?"

Upon hearing that, Huang Jiu was immediately thrilled.

I gave him a look of disdain and said, "Him? He thinks he can sit on top of my head and act like a great immortal?"

My second uncle chuckled without saying much. "I've met a few Dumaxians in the provincial capital. The ones they worshipped—the Four Pillars—don't even compare to Huang Jiu."

Upon hearing this, Huang Jiu proudly stood on the table, wearing floral shorts, and struck a pose. "When I entered the city, I sensed that within a hundred-mile radius, there's no one capable of matching me. Here, I am absolutely…"

Whoosh!

Before he could finish his sentence, I grabbed him by the neck and shoved him under the table just as the server came in with the dishes.

The conversation stopped there.

However, what Huang Jiu had said did catch my attention.

He was a beast, with territorial instincts and keen senses, and combined with my second uncle's words, could it be true that there were no powerful Dumaxians or spirits in this city?

Once all the dishes were served, Huang Jiu crawled back up to the table and protested, "I didn't finish what I was saying."

Neither my second uncle nor I said anything, signaling him with our eyes to continue.

Huang Jiu struck a pose, one hand on his hip and the other pointing to the sky, boasting, "I am the king of this city…" He then glanced at me and sheepishly corrected himself, "Beast king, beast king!"

I gave him another disdainful look. If he didn't change his tone, he'd be flying out onto the street by now.

Looking at the full table of food, I wasn't in the mood to talk anymore—I just wanted to eat.

I begrudgingly prepared a separate plate for Huang Jiu and started eating.

An hour later, after a storm of eating, Huang Jiu and I were both stuffed. My second uncle looked on in surprise as we finished, and I realized that my second uncle's bowl was completely empty, feeling a bit embarrassed.

My second uncle smiled and said, "It's fine, I'm not hungry. You're growing, so eat more."

Having a second uncle is really a blessing.

But when I glanced at Huang Jiu again, my disdain grew. Half of the table's food had been devoured by him.

I glared at him and said, "You eat so much, aren't you going to pay for your meal?"

Huang Jiu, self-aware, immediately took off his bag, which he hadn't put down for a moment, and started rummaging through it.

I was curious about what was inside, but he didn't let me peek, hiding the bag behind him. After a while, he pulled out a bracelet and some gold beans, handing them over to my second uncle.

I had seen these items before and wasn't particularly impressed. But when my second uncle examined them, I couldn't help but focus on Huang Jiu's bag.

The bag was only slightly larger than the size of my palm, but after taking out the bracelet and gold beans, the bag still seemed quite stuffed.

However, Huang Jiu, noticing my stare, quickly concealed it tightly.

There's plenty of time. I'm not in a rush. If he's hiding something valuable, it'll be mine sooner or later.

I turned to my second uncle and asked if these items could be sold, but he didn't answer immediately. Instead, he looked at Huang Jiu.

I said, "Don't mind him. This is his meal money. Sell it for whatever it's worth."

Only then did my second uncle put the items away, saying, "I'll see if I can find a suitable buyer."

On the way back, my second uncle bought some bedding, and at the shop, he set up a makeshift bed for me. He promised to find me a new place to stay in a few days.

Once we arrived at the shop, Huang Jiu disappeared the moment we entered.

While Huang Jiu wasn't around, I asked my second uncle if it was true that there were no Dumaxians stronger than Huang Jiu in this city.

My second uncle replied, "Any creature that can speak human language has at least two hundred years of cultivation, and in the city, they are indeed rare. If you develop a good relationship with him, it could bring benefits in the future."

I couldn't help but feel speechless. Huang Jiu was such a weakling, yet he could still be considered a Dumaxian. No wonder people in the city preferred to believe in science—they had never seen the real world.

My second uncle, seeing that I didn't say anything, patted me on the shoulder, telling me to rest well and that he would come to pick me up in the morning to visit Mr. Wang's house. He also reminded me to bring Huang Jiu.

After my second uncle left, I was alone in the shop. Soon, Huang Jiu sneaked in from the back door, his small bag now nowhere to be seen. I guessed he must have hidden it somewhere.

After wandering around the shop for a while, Huang Jiu vanished again. This was my first time away from home, and sleep was elusive.

I fumbled with the wooden token in my hand, and my mind involuntarily wandered to the words of the man in black.

"We are not on the same path."

Was that true? Were we really not on the same path?

But now that I knew the lower scroll had touched upon something significant, in half a year, I might be able to enter the Ten Thousand Mountains.

Thinking like that, I didn't want her to come looking for me anymore.

I wanted to go find her and bring her back myself.

Imagination always excites, and with no desire to sleep, I got up, turned on a small light, and began flipping through the book.

I planned to memorize the contents of the book so I wouldn't need to reference it so often—it wasn't very convenient or safe.

Of course, while memorizing, I also tried to channel the faint bit of spiritual energy inside me.

Before I knew it, the sky outside brightened.

Around eight in the morning, Huang Jiu sneaked back in like a thief.

We respected each other's privacy, so we didn't interfere with each other's personal lives, but seeing his shifty eyes, I couldn't help but remind him not to stir up trouble.

Soon after, my second uncle came into the shop. After I freshened up and changed clothes, I followed him to Mr. Wang's house.
