Chapter 74 - Chapter 74:

Still, we were in the city. Huang Jiu didn't panic.

He opened his mouth and said, "Damn, is this God farting? This smoke is thick."

I ignored his nonsense.

Spotting a shadow approaching through the fog, I grabbed Huang Jiu and flung him toward it—better he scout it out first.

As he flew off, I half-joked to myself—maybe the female corpse had been delivered from the mountains.

But then came Huang Jiu's scream, and he shot back like a cannonball.

I caught him mid-air and placed him back on my shoulder.

Still shaken, he stammered, "What the hell—why is there a zombie in the city!?"

"Hmph!"

A cold snort echoed to my left.

The black mist parted to reveal Liu Changxuan's furious face.

Next to him was He Xiaolong, eyes full of mocking glee, like he was watching a turtle trapped in a jar.

Liu Changxuan held a Soul-Summoning Bell, his gaze murderous.

"You little bastard—tonight is your last night alive."

Judging from his tone, Sun Chao was likely dead.

In the darkness, Huang Jiu's eyes glowed like lanterns, his demon aura extending over me.

While his physical strength is limited, his demon arts are more effective than Daoist techniques against living people.

Both Laoshan and Maoshan have traditions of controlling zombies.

The zombie in the mist must be one of the infamous zombie fighters.

I don't know much about zombie fighters, but a zombie is a zombie—more or less the same.

I slowly drew the Blood Thorn blade while remotely unlocking the shop's shutter with the remote.

The lights inside were left on, just in case the female corpse came looking for me.

The light spilled out and scattered part of the fog.

Seizing the moment while Liu Changxuan and He Xiaolong were distracted, I bolted toward the shop.

Liu Changxuan shook the Soul-Summoning Bell, and the zombie instantly teleported to block my path.

I had some experience from fighting zombies in the Ghost Building, so I held my breath the moment I got close.

But the zombie swept both arms out with a powerful gust—didn't miss at all, even without sensing my breath.

I immediately realized: Liu Changxuan was controlling the zombie—serving as its eyes. Holding my breath was useless.

As the zombie's armored limbs came sweeping in, I dropped to one knee, using my momentum to slide past.

While passing by, I stabbed its knee with the Blood Thorn.

With its sharpness, the blade should've sliced through zombie flesh like tofu.

But instead, it slid off the zombie's leg, throwing off a shower of sparks.

I glanced back—beneath the torn trousers was a glint of metal.

Liu Changxuan had armored the zombie.

Huang Jiu roared, "Liu Changxuan, you despicable old bastard—no honor at all! Hope your son is born without an asshole!"

I couldn't afford to fight.

Jumping up, I sprinted the remaining few meters and dashed into the shop.

The zombie was right on my heels.

Without a second thought, I slammed my palms together, raised my index and middle fingers to my forehead, and dropped to my knees, shouting:

"By the power of the household gods—protect this home!"
