Chapter 42 - Chp 42

Now that he knew the location of the Horcrux, the last thread hanging in Jon's heart was finally let go.

After the Easter holidays, the mandrakes were fully mature... With the joint efforts of Professor Sprout and Professor Snape, the anti-petrification potion was prepared and used on the students who were attacked by the basilisk.

 They all returned to normal.

After Justin Finch-Fletchley woke up, he learned the "truth"... He immediately went to find Harry Potter from Gryffindor and apologized to him profusely, saying that he had wronged him before.

Colin Creevey completely became Harry Potter's little follower, looking at him with admiration at all times.

Percy Weasley admitted that he had fought a desperate battle with Slytherin's monster before he was petrified... "I think I tried my best, Professor McGonagall, but the monster was too powerful..."

However, after celebrating their awakening, they soon learned some unfortunate news:

The final exam will be held on June 1st.

It's only about seven weeks away.

...

...

 …

In the last two months of the first academic year, professors of all courses no longer taught them new knowledge; instead, they were given ample time to review what they had learned in the past year.

For most of the past two months, Jon and Astoria had been together, sitting by a willow tree near the greenhouse behind the castle, basking in the sun while they recited the twelve uses of dragon's blood or practiced the wand movements required for several spells.

Sometimes when he was tired, Jon would just close his eyes and rest under the willow tree, while reviewing the technique of Occlumency several times... He was now becoming more and more proficient in the use of the technique!

The weather gradually became hot and humid, and as June 1st approached, the final exams officially began.

The first thing to do was a written test, and they used the latest version of anti-cheating feather pens.

It was much more difficult to write with this kind of feather pen than with a fountain pen or a ballpoint pen, and the handwriting was much uglier... This made Jon unable to help but criticize the backwardness and conservatism of the wizarding world in his heart.

The written test went quite smoothly. With my excellent concentration and sufficient review, there were basically no major problems.

Astoria was a little worried after the Potions exam: "I don't remember the difference between Aconitum naviculatum and Aconitum wolfsbane, I left that question blank..."

"Actually, they are a kind of plant, collectively known as Aconitum!" Jon comforted her, "Don't worry, you did very well in Potions class, Professor Snape will definitely not give you a low score!"

Of course, in addition to the written test, there is also a practical test.

During the Charms exam, Professor Flitwick asked them to enter the classroom one by one and let them try to make a pineapple tap dance across a desk.

Jon did a pretty good job, except that he accidentally let Pineapple fall at the last step... Professor Flitwick showed a regretful look, wrote a line of numbers on the transcript, and let him go.

In the Transfiguration exam, Professor McGonagall asked them to turn a mouse into a snuff box.

Jon transfigured a snuff box, which wasn't as exquisite as Ginny Weasley's, but at least there were no mouse whiskers left on it.

During the Potions exam, Professor Snape asked them to each mix a pot of forgetfulness potion.

It only took Jon fifteen minutes to complete all the steps. When he finally added the licorice liquid, Snape came over and observed carefully for several minutes, but still couldn't find any problems.

In the Herbology class, Jon also only spent about fifteen minutes to write down the names of the thirty herbs that Sprout showed him.

"Full marks!" Professor Sprout saw him off with a smile as they left the greenhouse, while secretly giving him a spoiler.

The afternoon of the Quidditch exam was probably the worst afternoon of the entire year.

Jon rode on his broomstick for only ten seconds before he fell from the sky. Fortunately, he reacted in time and cast a levitation spell on himself, thus avoiding a tragedy.

Under Madam Hooch's angry gaze, Jon left in embarrassment... There was no doubt that he was destined to fail this exam.

There were no practical courses in Astronomy and History of Magic, so of the seven subjects first-year students had to take, there was only one left: the practical exam in Defense Against the Dark Arts.

 …

The practical exam for the Defense Against the Dark Arts class was held in the previous classroom.

As Dumbledore called out a student's name, that student would follow Professor Dumbledore into the classroom and come out a few minutes later.

 "Sean Avery!"

The order is the same as the Sorting Hat's order.

 "Theresa Baker!"

 "Colin Creevey!"

...Every student had a different expression on their face when they came out. For example, Theresa Baker, a Ravenclaw girl, was very happy and smiling when she walked out of the classroom; while Colin Creevey from Gryffindor came out with his head down and a face full of shame.

One student after another, soon, they arrived...

 "Astoria Greengrass!"

Astoria came out after a while, also with a smile on her face.

As she passed Jon, she whispered, "Good Luck!"

"Thank you!" Jon whispered back, and then Professor Dumbledore called out his name:

 "Jon Hart!"

"Good morning, Jon!" Professor Dumbledore was not as serious as other teachers when he was invigilating the exam; after several months of teaching, he had memorized the name of every first-year student.

"Good morning, professor!" Jon also greeted honestly.

"Then let's start the exam!" Dumbledore smiled and waved his wand.

An animated dummy with constantly changing facial expressions appeared in front of Jon.

"Try the Petrification Charm!" Dumbledore suggested.

"Petrificus Totalus!" Jon raised his wand and calmly chanted the spell.

With a faint red light, the expression of the moving mannequin froze and it could no longer sway back and forth.

"Very beautiful!" Dumbledore waved his wand again, and the dummy disappeared, replaced by a dummy holding a wooden stick.

"Try the Disarming Charm!" Dumbledore said.

Professor Dumbledore had taught this spell to the first-year students during a Defense Against the Dark Arts class in early April.

 "Expelliarmus!"

There was another flash of red light, and the wooden stick in the dummy's hand was knocked several yards away.

"Well done, Jon!" Dumbledore nodded. "Now you just need to complete the last exam and you can enjoy your summer vacation!"

As he spoke, the second action dummy also disappeared.

Then three wooden boxes appeared in front of Jon.

"Choose one, Jon!" Professor Dumbledore said with a smile, pointing to the three boxes in front of him.

Jon was stunned for a moment, then turned around in confusion and asked, "I don't quite understand, Professor!"

"It's like this, the three boxes contain the three magical animals that we learned how to deal with last semester!" Professor Dumbledore: "You need to choose one of them as your test subject."

Jon nodded and held up his index finger. "I'll choose the box in the middle."

"Okay!" Dumbledore waved his hand, and the two boxes on the left and right disappeared out of thin air.

"Then I'll tell you now, there's a Boggart in the box in the middle!" He explained, "Think carefully about what you learned in class about how to deal with Boggarts, and tell me when you're ready!"

"Boggart?" Jon couldn't help but frowned.

In Professor Dumbledore's first Defense Against the Dark Arts class, he taught them about Boggarts. He deliberately stayed at the back of the crowd to avoid dealing with Boggarts once... After all, a Boggart could not withstand every student in the class taking turns!

Unexpectedly, I met him again during the exam?

...

...

Boggart can reveal people's inner fears, and what it will become is an unknown goal for Jon himself.

What if I conjure up something inappropriate and it arouses Dumbledore's suspicion?

Should I use Occlumency to give Boggart the wrong hint?

 The idea was quickly rejected.

Because Jon suddenly realized something. This was different from the class... He was the only one in front of the box now, which meant that the Boggart in the box had already become the target of his fear... Even if he closed his brain now, it would no longer make any sense.

After all, if the target is not changed, Boggart will not change its transformation object.

"Are you ready, Jon?" Professor Dumbledore asked lazily.

"Okay, Professor!" Jon could only take a deep breath and replied.

 "Be careful..."

Dumbledore snapped his fingers, and the lock on the box slowly opened. At the same time, he gently reminded:

"There's no need to be too nervous. Boggarts are easy to deal with. Think carefully about what you learned in class..."

Dumbledore stopped talking abruptly, and stared with wide eyes at the thing that crawled out of the box.

Jon opened his mouth wide and almost dropped the wand in his hand.

"How could this be... I never expected this..."

Even the Boggart that crawled out of the box looked around in confusion, not understanding what was going on.

Because it turned into a person, a tall and thin old man with blue eyes; he wore a pair of half-moon glasses, had a long silver-white beard, and his hooked nose seemed to have been broken once... He was wearing a dark green robe and a purple cloak that dragged on the ground.

Yes, exactly the same outfit as Professor Dumbledore's today.

So, there were two identical-looking Albus Dumbledore in the classroom.

 …

"I think I am the real one, Jon!" Professor Dumbledore was the first to react from his shock, and a smile appeared on his face again: "Although I am sorry that I am so scary!"

 "I'm so sorry, Professor..."

"No need to apologize, you are still taking the exam..." Dumbledore reminded playfully.

Jon had no choice but to bite the bullet and raise his wand, pointing it at the other "Dumbledore".

 "Riddikulus!" he whispered the spell.

A beam of white light accurately hit "Dumbledore" who was still in a daze.

The elderberry wand in Dumbledore's hand flew into the air, then grew bigger little by little, and finally turned into a cane more than half a person's height.

At the same time, a silver sword with a beautiful scabbard and a hilt inlaid with gems appeared in his left hand for no apparent reason.

A set of mithril breastplate was also forcibly draped over his chest, and his dark green robe and purple cloak were dyed pure white.

The silver scarf was wrapped around his neck, and it matched the pointed hat perfectly...

The Boggart, who had become "Dumbledore", looked at the new equipment at a loss, and completely forgot to continue to "intimidate" Jon.

"Hahaha!" The real Dumbledore covered his mouth and laughed in an undignified manner:

 "Very nice look, Jon!"

"That's really interesting... I think I'll consider dressing up like this!"

"Full marks... I can tell you in advance that I will give you full marks in the Defense Against the Dark Arts class..."

This was the second course in which he got full marks, but Jon was not happy at all.

He didn't think that turning a Boggart into a headmaster would have no consequences.

"Pro...Professor Dumbledore, can I leave now?" He turned his head and asked weakly.

"Of course!" Dumbledore still couldn't stop smiling: "Your exams are over, Jon, enjoy your summer vacation..."

But when Jon turned around, he added: "I'm just sorry that I made you feel so scared. So can you spare a day during the summer vacation so that I can pay you a home visit?"

Jon knew that Dumbledore would not let him go easily.

But does he dare to say no?

With a sad face, he nodded: "Thank you, professor..."

"Okay, next one!" Dumbledore waved him off and read out the next name:

 "Luna Lovegood!"

 …

After passing the Ravenclaw girl with waist-length blond hair, Jon returned to the door of the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.

Astoria was waiting for him here.

Seeing his sad face, Astoria asked with concern: "What's the matter, Jon, did you not do well in the exam?"

"No... Professor Dumbledore told me... he would give me full marks..."

 Jon shook his head dimly.

"Then why do you look sad?" Astoria asked, somewhat confused.

"Ah!" Jon Hart sighed deeply, with a look of despair on his face muttered lowly: "My fate keeps fucking with me...
