Chapter 192 - Going Home

Anna arrived back at Adam's mansion with a heavy heart. Although she remembered that when she had first seen the house, she had wanted to live in it, because it was exactly the way she had always wanted, she could no longer remember the good times she had had there. There was nothing left for her, and she felt agony at the thought of having to live in that house again for an indefinite period of time.

She looked at Ian, and he seemed excited. She didn't know if, like her, the house was exercising in him the same childhood dream of the perfect life. She still didn't understand what had happened to Adam, who got out of his car in Las Vegas and got into another car that she knew Bonnie was in. He had changed into the Adam she had known. He didn't talk, he didn't laugh, he didn't look at her, there was only indifference in his eyes. But he said goodbye to her and Ian, promising that he would visit the next day, when they were rested from their trip, and that he had things he needed to talk to her about.

The car carrying Adam and Bonnie followed right behind that one, and in front there was also a car, all black. It reminded Anna of the mansion in Edinburgh, and her eyes shone with tears. She would miss hugging and kissing the children. It also looked like the movies she'd seen about mobsters. That was Adam's world. And deep down, even though she vehemently denied it to Maxwell, to her father and even to herself, she knew that it was her world too. And she also knew that she would live a double life once she returned to Maxwell. A life that he knew, and another life that she would hide, but she was determined to follow in her father's footsteps. She thought a lot during the trip, and once she admitted to herself that it was what would make her happy, and that it was what would make her feel whole, she was able to relax a little.

The door next to her was opened by a familiar face who smiled at her affectionately. Anna stared at him for a few seconds, suspicious, and after she got out of the car, she squeezed Caricature in a hug. His muscles tensed at first, but then he relaxed and responded to the hug. Anna had really missed him, and all the men there, but only now did she realize it.

"Welcome back." He said, as soon as she pulled away.

"Thank you, Caricature. I'm glad to see you're still alive." She said debauched.

"I'm not easy to kill." He said amused.

Ian got out of the car and stared at the gun Caricatura was carrying, with a gleam of interest in his eye. Anna laughed inside. It was probably in Ian's blood, and it was obvious that he would follow in his biological father's footsteps.

Caricature stared at him for a while with a hard expression.

"Boss! Are you a kid again?"

Ian laughed, knowing that the werewolf was only making a reference because of the resemblance between him and Adam, and Caricature knelt down to get to his size, but he couldn't. He was too tall, and Ian was too tall for him. He was too tall, and Ian was only four.

"Are you the mafia prince the boss said he was bringing?" He asked, surprised by the striking resemblance between them. Not just physically, but the boy carried the same lethal glint in his eye as Adam.

"For now, I accept being just the prince, but one day I'll come back to be the king." Ian said naturally, without arrogance, surprising Anna and Caricature with the certainty with which he said things. "Let me take your gun." It wasn't a request and Anna was about to scold him, when Adam arrived and approached with Bonnie.

"Do as he says, Caricature." He spoke in the same tone as Ian.

Ian smiled instantly. Convinced and now, yes, superb. But Caricatura looked inquiringly at Anna, who almost imperceptibly gave her consent. Then Caricatura took the rifle back from his neck and handed it to Ian.

Adam then approached, and bent down to Ian, teaching him how to hold the rifle.

"I want to shoot." Ian said excitedly

"Aim at anything or anyone but your mother and pull the trigger. I want to see fire."

Ian looked disapprovingly at Adam and hit the towel cabinet, which was just outside the pool.

Adam stood up and looked proudly at his son.

"You know you wouldn't kill if you shot me, or any of the men here..." Adam said as if explaining his motives, but he didn't mind knowing that if his son chose Bonnie as a target, she would certainly die. He didn't care about that. "You don't have to go back, Ian. You can start being king today." Adam said and took the rifle from Ian, handing it back to Caricature.

They entered through the living room door, and Kate and Genevieve were sitting with glasses of cognac in their hands. Genevieve winked covertly at Ian, who returned the compliment, and Kate looked at Ian interestedly as they entered.

"If I'd known your children would be so beautiful, I would have had some with you while there was still time." Kate said, smiling wryly.

 Adam looked unsurprisingly at Genevieve.

"You know more than you've ever told anyone, right?"

 "Yes. I know."

"We'll talk about your betrayal one day. For now, I'm grateful that you're my son's guardian."

 Genevieve nodded in elegant agreement.

 Adam turned to Kate.

"Did you tidy his room?" Andrey asked, ignoring her sarcasm as they entered.

 Kate turned to Anna.

"Hello, Anna! I didn't know I'd say this one day, but I'm glad to see you again..." She said sincerely and looked at Bonnie bitterly. "As for you, you weren't missed at all. I don't think you have any more room in this house now that Anna's back."

"Hi, Kate. I can assure you, I feel the same way." Anna said, before having to watch her clash with Bonnie. It wasn't yet time to settle the debt with her.

"Did you, Kate?" Adam repeated the question, impatiently, and Kate turned quietly to him.

"I tried to open the secret room. It must be full of dust and cobwebs in there. Put the child in there." She said and looked at Genevieve and they both laughed.
