Chapter 16 - The Sudden Strange Illness and Coma

Lin Yue lived every day in the Tang Palace with her nerves constantly on edge. It seemed that every corner of this deep palace concealed unknown secrets. The recent series of eerie events made her feel even more that life in the palace was full of unknown dangers and challenges.

One day, news suddenly spread in the palace that a much-favored concubine was seriously ill and bedridden. When the Emperor learned of this, he was extremely anxious and immediately ordered the Imperial Medical Office to do their best to treat her. However, several days passed, and not only did the concubine's condition not improve, but it became even more severe. As a newly promoted medical woman, Lin Yue had already gained some fame in the palace due to her previously demonstrated superb medical skills, and she was also summoned to participate in the consultation.

When Lin Yue stepped into the concubine's bedroom, a heavy and oppressive atmosphere greeted her. The concubine on the sickbed was as pale as paper, her lips completely bloodless, her eyes tightly closed, and her brows furrowed, as if she was enduring great pain. Lin Yue stepped forward and carefully took her pulse. The pulse was chaotic, sometimes rapid and sometimes weak, as if being interfered with by some mysterious and strange force. She was shocked and realized that this illness was by no means ordinary and was something she had never seen before.

The imperial physicians beside her saw Lin Yue's solemn expression and cast inquiring glances at her one after another. An elderly imperial physician asked, "Miss Lin, do you have any clues?" Lin Yue shook her head helplessly and said, "This illness is extremely strange. I need to think about it more carefully."

Back in her residence, Lin Yue fell into deep thought. She recalled the concubine's symptoms and suddenly thought of some rare diseases she had studied in modern times. Could there be a connection between them? She decided to start by looking into the concubine's daily life to find clues. After making some inquiries, Lin Yue learned that this concubine liked to take a walk in the Ningxiang Garden in the palace the most. The Ningxiang Garden was filled with all kinds of exotic flowers and plants, exuding a mysterious atmosphere. Lin Yue had an idea and decided to go to the Ningxiang Garden to investigate.

When she stepped into the Ningxiang Garden, a rich fragrance of flowers assailed her nostrils. She carefully observed the flowers and plants in the garden and found a plant called the "Night Flower" that was emitting a faint but disturbing special fragrance. Lin Yue was shocked and suspected that this Night Flower was related to the concubine's illness.

She carefully collected some Night Flowers and returned to her residence to study them. After some experiments, she discovered that the Night Flower contained a toxin. Long-term inhalation of it would cause the body's qi and blood to become disordered and eventually endanger one's life. Now, she was certain that the concubine had fallen ill because she had been taking walks in the Ningxiang Garden for a long time and inhaled the toxin of the Night Flower.

But who exactly planted this poisonous flower in the Ningxiang Garden? What kind of conspiracy was hidden behind it? Lin Yue decided to conduct a thorough investigation. She began to secretly observe the situation in the Ningxiang Garden and found that there was a mysterious figure appearing in the garden every day. That figure always wore a veil and moved in a mysterious way, making it difficult to figure out.

One night, Lin Yue decided to follow this mysterious person. She quietly trailed behind the mysterious person and saw the mysterious person come to a desolate palace. This palace looked

very dilapidated and seemed to have been abandoned for a long time. After the mysterious person entered the palace, Lin Yue approached carefully. Through the window, she saw the mysterious person talking to a man.

"How's the matter going?" the man asked. "Everything is going smoothly. That concubine is already terminally ill and will die in a few days," the mysterious person replied. "Very good. Once she's dead, half of our plan will be successful," the man sneered.

Lin Yue broke out in a cold sweat. So there really was a conspiracy behind this. She decided to tell the Emperor about this, but just as she turned to leave, she accidentally stepped on a withered branch and made a noise. The two people in the palace immediately became alert. "Who's outside?" the man shouted and rushed out.

Seeing the situation was not good, Lin Yue turned and ran. The man chased after her closely, and Lin Yue fled desperately in the alleys of the palace. Just as she was about to be caught up, suddenly a figure appeared and blocked the man. Lin Yue took a closer look and found that it was her friend, Li Yunfei, a palace guard.

"Miss Lin, go quickly. Leave this to me," Li Yunfei shouted. Lin Yue hesitated for a moment but still turned and left. She knew that Li Yunfei was highly skilled in martial arts and should be able to hold out for a while.

Lin Yue went to the Emperor's bedroom and told the Emperor everything she had discovered. The Emperor was enraged after hearing it and immediately ordered a thorough investigation of the matter. After some investigation, the truth finally came to light. It turned out that another concubine was jealous of this favored concubine and secretly instructed the mysterious person to plant the Night Flower in the Ningxiang Garden, attempting to murder her.

The concubine with malicious intentions was sent to the Cold Palace, and Lin Yue received an award from the Emperor for solving the case. But Lin Yue didn't feel any joy. She knew very well that the struggles in this deep palace would never end.

After this incident, the relationship between Lin Yue and Li Yunfei became even closer. Li Yunfei often came to her rescue when Lin Yue was in danger, and Lin Yue took good care of Li Yunfei when he was injured. The two of them felt each other's warmth in this cold and deep palace.

However, the peaceful days did not last long. One day, news suddenly spread in the palace that the Crown Prince had fallen into a coma and the imperial physicians in the Imperial Medical Office were at a loss as to what to do. The Emperor once again ordered Lin Yue to participate in the consultation.

Lin Yue went to the Crown Prince's bedroom and saw that the Crown Prince was pale and lifeless. She took the Crown Prince's pulse, and the pulse was weak, as if the flame of life was about to go out. Lin Yue's heart tightened, and she realized that this illness was even more difficult to deal with than the concubine's illness before.

She carefully observed the Crown Prince's symptoms and found some strange black spots on his body, as if being eroded by some kind of toxin. Lin Yue was shocked. She had never seen such an illness before.

Just when she had no clue, she suddenly remembered a kind of illness she had read about in an ancient book - the "Nine Nether Poison Curse". This kind of poison curse was extremely rare. Once someone was cursed, they would fall into a coma and eventually die when the poison took effect. Lin Yue suspected that the Crown Prince had been cursed by the Nine Nether Poison

Curse.

Lin Yue knew very well that this was no small matter. In ancient times, the theory of poison curses was already mysterious, not to mention cracking this extremely rare Nine Nether Poison Curse. But Lin Yue had an unyielding spirit in her. The scientific thinking cultivated by modern medicine made her firmly believe that even in the face of such a seemingly insoluble predicament, there must be a way to find a solution.

She decided to first look for more clues in the ancient books, so she plunged into the palace's library. This place housed medical books of all dynasties and strange anecdotes, which was Lin Yue's only hope. The library was filled with dust, and the ancient books were piled up in mountains. Lin Yue didn't care about this and carefully flipped through the books one by one. For several consecutive days, she forgot to eat and sleep, and her eyes were bloodshot, but her gains were few.

Li Yunfei felt extremely sorry to see Lin Yue working so hard. He would bring her meals every day and often stay by her side to help her sort out the ancient books. "Miss Lin, don't overwork yourself. Your health is important," Li Yunfei gently advised. Lin Yue raised her head and smiled wearily, "I'm fine. The Crown Prince's life is at stake. How can I not be anxious?"

Just when Lin Yue was almost on the verge of despair, she finally found detailed records about the Nine Nether Poison Curse in a tattered ancient book. It was mentioned that to crack this poison curse, besides needing a single-headed snow lotus, a medicinal herb called the "Ice Soul Grass" was also needed as a guide for the medicine. The two complemented each other and could only then dissolve the power of the poison curse. But the Ice Soul Grass also grew in extremely dangerous places and only appeared at specific times of the year.

Lin Yue didn't hesitate for a moment and decided to set out immediately to look for the Ice Soul Grass. Li Yunfei naturally insisted on going with her. "Miss Lin, wherever you go, I'll go. With me here, I won't let anything happen to you." The two of them once again embarked on an adventure full of unknowns.

Following the vague clues in the ancient book, they traveled all the way north and came to an uninhabited valley. The terrain here was dangerous, and layers of mist filled the valley, making it impossible to tell the direction. Lin Yue and Li Yunfei moved forward carefully. Suddenly, a low growl came from ahead. Li Yunfei quickly drew his sword and protected Lin Yue behind him. A huge black bear rushed out of the mist. It bared its teeth and claws, looking menacing.

Li Yunfei engaged in a fierce battle with the black bear. The black bear was extremely powerful, and although Li Yunfei was highly skilled in martial arts, he gradually became a bit exhausted. Lin Yue was extremely anxious. She looked around for something that could help. Suddenly, she found a sharp stone on the ground. She picked up the stone and threw it forcefully at the black bear's eyes. The black bear was enraged by this sudden attack and turned to pounce on Lin Yue. Seeing this, Li Yunfei rushed over without hesitation and stood in front of Lin Yue.

The black bear's claws scratched Li Yunfei's arm, and blood flowed freely. Lin Yue was heartbroken. "Yunfei, how are you?" Li Yunfei gritted his teeth and said, "I'm fine. Don't worry about me. Find a chance to escape quickly." Just at this critical moment, Lin Yue suddenly noticed a cluster of ice-blue small grass behind the black bear. Wasn't that the Ice Soul Grass they had been searching for so hard?

Lin Yue ignored the danger and rushed towards the Ice Soul Grass. She quickly picked the Ice Soul Grass and then shouted loudly, "Yunfei, I've found it. Let's go quickly!" Hearing this, Li Yunfei forcefully repelled the black bear, grabbed Lin Yue's hand, and fled desperately. Finally, they got

rid of the black bear's pursuit.

With the Ice Soul Grass and the single-headed snow lotus, Lin Yue and Li Yunfei rushed back to the palace without stopping. After some careful preparation and decoction, Lin Yue fed the antidote to the Crown Prince. Amid the anxious waiting of everyone, the Crown Prince's face gradually regained its ruddy color, and the black spots on his body also slowly faded away. Finally, the Crown Prince slowly opened his eyes, and the hearts of Lin Yue and Li Yunfei that had been hanging in the air finally settled down.

The Emperor was extremely grateful to Lin Yue and Li Yunfei for saving the Crown Prince's life. He not only rewarded them with generous wealth but also praised Lin Yue's medical skills profusely. Lin Yue once again managed to turn the situation around in this deep palace with her wisdom and courage. And the relationship between her and Li Yunfei became even more unbreakable through these adventures. But Lin Yue knew that there would be more challenges waiting for her in the days to come, and she was already prepared.
