After seeing a familiar girl enter the room, I was pretty doubtful initially. After hearing her name and story, I realized this girl is the one I used to know in my past life. I never knew she was imprisoned at one point. She was from the South, just like me now. She also named the countries and capitals properly, which matched my past life. Then I must have also traveled back in time. I must have been reborn as a different person in the past. What is happening is some kind of prelude before death. If so, why am I seeing Mirna? I barely knew her in my past life.
The girl sleeping peacefully next to me was not someone whom I had met so early on in my past life either. I have to figure out who I've been reborn as. I think I can figure out a little if I get a good look at my face. I don't know the name of my mother; I just know how she looks. I couldn't gather much information from the inmates, as most of them are not in their right minds due to trauma and starvation. I was not put through much of the torture because of my age and tiny stature. Since my mother was from a wealthy family, I might come in handy as a hostage.
The night passed, and I couldn't get a wink of sleep because of all the thoughts running in my head. The following morning, I was keenly waiting for Mirna to wake up so that I could bombard her with questions about the outside world to know more and get more hints.
"So, what are the people of the outside world like? Do we have kings and kingdoms? What are all the different countries out there? Tell me everything!" I asked, following Mirna around as soon as she woke up.
The girl looked exhausted from all the crying yesterday and for sure didn't appreciate the array of questions.
"I'm not completely sure either, as I come from a village near the shore. As far as I know, power is everything. The strongest element holders of each element will be deemed Ultra-Elites; they are a sect of society who are allowed to make crucial decisions. Each country will have a board of 8 Ultra-Elites who decide the laws and hold almost 80% of the power. The rest 20% goes to the Elites. The Elites are strong business owners and rich families who could influence the economy of the country. While any family with a considerable amount of wealth can become an Elite family, becoming an Ultra-Elite is a far-fetched dream for most," Mirna started to explain, resting her face in the palm of her hand. The more she spoke, the more everything made sense to me. The world is still the same. To become an Ultra-Elite, one has to dethrone an Ultra-Elite.
At a glance, it might seem doable, but the Ultra-Elites have strong bloodlines, so much so that they can pass on elemental techniques special to them through the generations.
In my past life, I was a part of an Elite family called the Silvaires, who had a huge weapons manufacturing business in the North. We were a family of Earth Element holders; we could control earth and earth-related forces. I can move rocks and launch attacks with sand, but at the same time, to make plants or vines, I would need water and seeds. Earth is a resourceful element but is most definitely not the strongest. I am no longer the person I once was. I don't know what powers I hold, as I haven't gone through my aura initiation in this life yet, nor do I know who my parents are.
"Let's go get something to eat, I'm so hungry!" I said excitedly, grabbing Mirna to go get some dry bread we get every morning. She came with me without a word. I assumed she was just as hungry. I was happy that she had an appetite today; she refused to even drink water yesterday.
We grabbed our bread through the hole in the gate and were eating peacefully. Suddenly, we heard a loud blast. The explosion was close by but nowhere near my vicinity. The alarms in the facility went off. There were fires lit up everywhere, and guards were running up the stairs with their flamethrowers and zap guns. Mirna, next to me, started shaking and held on to me. The facility was getting attacked; if we played our cards right, there was a chance we could make it out alive.
"Mirna, stay close to me," I said, holding on to the little girl. Why am I concerned about her? I don't know.
The blasting did not stop, and then suddenly, we heard a roar, the roar that only a mythical creature can let out. I am sure that it is a dragon! A dragon tamer was nearby. The facility is being attacked by a dragon tamer. Dragon tamers are some of the strongest people in the world. Most of them get affiliated with a powerful Elite family or one of the Ultra-Elite families. Having a dragon tamer increases the prestige of a family as they are so rare.
The series of blasts kept getting closer, causing a mini earthquake. The inmates were freaking out. I was pushed back as the inmates shuffled near the gate, demanding to be let out.
"Let us out!" one of them shouted while the others agreed with him. Mirna and I moved to a corner to avoid the stampede.
The wall near the cell blasted, revealing a figure who moved in through all the smoke. It was a tall woman with a slender figure. She had long red hair and light blue eyes. She was young and pretty and looked awfully familiar.
"Let's go, kiddo," she said, making eye contact with me. With a smirk on her face, she pointed her thumb towards the hole she had made in the wall.
