Chapter 25 - Chapter 025: Looking for a Job

March 24th.

Di Zhen walked into a somewhat shabby employment agency with his hands in his pockets. The manager, who was munching on a pancake, wiped the crumbs off his body, pushed his glasses up, and stood up. "Kid, looking for a job?"

Di Zhen scanned the information on the wall. "What kind of jobs do you usually have?"

"All sorts of jobs, like cleaners, security guards, teachers, salesmen..." The manager lazily introduced and then replied to a voice message on his phone. "Tell those rural job - seekers that if they lose their jobs, they won't get their agency fee back. Do they think I'm running a charity?" Then he continued to Di Zhen, "After we find a job for you, you'll have to pay half of your first - month salary. Are you from out of town?"

"Yes."

The manager's expression clearly showed a bit of contempt. He scratched his cheek and asked, "What's your educational background?"

"I've never been to school."

"Did you drop out of high school?"

"No, I've never stepped foot in a school."

"What skills do you have?"

He couldn't say he could do hypnosis. Di Zhen replied, "Driving, cooking, designing, writing, painting, computer skills..."

"Wow, you know a lot of things!"

Just as the manager was marveling at his versatility, Di Zhen's next words were, "I can't do any of these! And I have no work experience either!"

"No, if you can't do anything, what kind of job do you expect to find? Are you here to cause trouble so early in the morning..." Noticing Di Zhen's cold expression, the manager quickly added, "Just joking. Hey, you're in good shape. Wanna be a security guard?"

"How much is the salary?"

"For someone without work experience like you, it definitely won't be high at first. It'll probably start at about a thousand!"

"Anything else?"

The manager opened his computer and took a look. "How about being a stock clerk?"

"Salary."

"Starting at a thousand."

"Another one!"

"How about being a food runner?"

"Salary..."

For every job the manager mentioned, Di Zhen rejected it. The manager thought to himself, 'Where did this guy come from? He's so choosy and hard to please. He doesn't want to do anything. He might as well be a loafer.'

The manager was so anxious that sweat broke out on his forehead. He really couldn't find any suitable jobs for someone with this level of education. Di Zhen simply looked at the information on the wall himself. There were all sorts of jobs in the big city, but none of them really caught his fancy.

He just wanted to find a place to live and save some money on food and accommodation, so he said, "Is there a job like a warehouse keeper?"

"Yes, but you can't do it."

"Why?"

"Who would let a young person do that kind of work? You haven't been to school or had a job before. Who would hire you?"

"How about a librarian?" The library was the place Di Zhen liked to stay in the city the most.

"What?" The manager thought, 'Does this guy have any self - awareness?' "You need a degree in archival management to do that job."

"How can I get it?"

"Go to college!" The manager was already out of patience. He picked up his cup and took a sip of tea, then said slowly, "Can you get into college?"

Di Zhen could hear the sarcasm in the other person's tone and didn't want to argue with him. He said, "Sorry to bother you. Goodbye!"

"Crazy person. Coming here to cause trouble so early in the morning!" the manager murmured.

Di Zhen stopped at the door and turned around. The manager said, "Don't look. There's no suitable job for you. A talent like you should work on Wall Street."

Di Zhen walked straight back. The manager was so scared that he spilled tea all over himself. "What are you doing! Do you want to hit someone?"

Di Zhen put his hands on the table and stared into the manager's eyes. "Although it's my first time in a place like this, I know that when you open a business, you shouldn't have this kind of attitude!"

"What... what are you doing?" The manager took out his phone. "Watch out, I'll call the police!"

Di Zhen slowly reached out his hand. The manager nervously stared at his palm. It was a simple way to attract attention. When Di Zhen caught the moment the manager's spiritual aperture opened, he slapped the manager's forehead and shouted, "Sleep!"

The manager rolled his eyes and lost consciousness. In a daze, he felt as if his legs were on fire and it was extremely uncomfortable. Someone shouted, "Manager! Manager!" The voice seemed to come from a very far - away place.

He suddenly woke up and found himself squatting, holding his hands and constantly doing the Cossack dance.

"Ah!"

He fell down all of a sudden. Only then did he realize that he was covered in sweat and his legs were so sore that they seemed about to break. He gasped for breath and found that the employees who had just come to work were looking at him with a surprised expression.

"Manager, what are you doing? Working out?"

"I... I saw a ghost!"

After playing a prank, Di Zhen felt much better. The arrogant attitude of the service industry in the city had long irritated him.

However, he still hadn't found a job.

At eight in the morning, the non - motorized lanes on both sides of the road were flooded with a surging tide of bicycles and electric scooters. People in the city rode their vehicles expressionlessly, rushing to their workplaces.

All under heaven are bustling for profit. Di Zhen asked himself, what kind of job did he want the most?

He wanted a job where he could fully utilize his strengths and be creative. Preferably, it didn't involve dealing with meaningless interpersonal relationships.

It seemed that being a policeman was a job that met his needs, but he also knew that the son of a murderer couldn't become a policeman.

He stood there in a daze for a while. Suddenly, someone patted him on the shoulder. He turned his head and was dazzled by the reflection of the gold tooth in the other person's mouth.

It was a man in a flowery shirt and sunglasses, with a strange hairstyle. The top of his head seemed to have been sliced off by a sharp knife, and there was almost no hair on the sides. The man in the flowery shirt grinned and said, "Buddy, are you looking for a job?"

Di Zhen sized the man up and down. "Don't touch me!"

"Hey, why are you so uptight!" The man in the flowery shirt withdrew his hand, took out a cigarette, and said, "Have one?"

"Don't know how!"

The man in the flowery shirt put one in his own mouth and said with a smile, "Buddy, you're quite strong. How about coming to work at my nightclub?"

"What kind of job?"

"Security guard! But we offer high pay. You can earn four or five thousand a month, and we also provide room and board. Consider it?"

"You mean a bouncer?"

"That's another way to put it. When some customers break the rules, just teach them a lesson. Have you practiced martial arts, buddy?"

As he spoke, the man in the flowery shirt reached out to pat Di Zhen on the chest. Di Zhen grabbed his wrist and said coldly, "I said don't touch me!"

"Think about it!"

"No, I'm not interested."

"Humph!" The man in the flowery shirt shook his head and laughed. "Are you stupid? You're rejecting a great opportunity. You're new here. What kind of job can you find in Jiangxia? Working in a factory will exhaust you, and you'll only earn a little over two thousand a month. Why bother? Our place offers good treatment and many benefits. Do you know what I mean by benefits? We have ladies there, all beautiful and charming!" The man in the flowery shirt winked, looking extremely lewd.

"Sorry, I decline!"

Di Zhen turned around and left. Suddenly, the man in the flowery shirt raised his voice. "You're being disrespectful, huh? I'm trying to persuade you nicely, and you're being ungrateful! Don't refuse a good offer and end up regretting it!"

Di Zhen turned around and looked at the man in the flowery shirt with a ferocious expression on his face. "Your logic as hooligans is really interesting. I just said no, and you're talking about face and dignity. Do I even know you? Why should I give you face? If you're asking for a beating, just skip this act!"

"Humph!" The man in the flowery shirt sneered and took out his phone. "Brother Li, I'm on Fumin Road. There's a guy who doesn't know his place..."

Di Zhen slapped him, knocking the phone out of his hand and his showy gold tooth out of his mouth.

How could he give those hooligans time to call for backup!

After dealing with the man in the flowery shirt, Di Zhen left immediately. When Brother Li arrived with his minions, they were shocked to find the man in the flowery shirt upside down in the trash can like a potted plant, with his two legs twitching...
