Chapter 14 - Capital City

"Are we there yet?"

Marie, who had dedicated herself to annoying the members of Silver Pact, asked for some 40th time today.

Everyone in the big iron wagon had gotten used to ignoring her since last week.

Marie and Krys were being taken to the capital city, Sablefield.

Krys was traveling in another wagon, along with Captain Selira and the swordsman named Jared.

Since Marie didn't pose as much of a threat as Krys, they were unable to meet since they surrendered.

She spent all her time staring out of the window, they had travelled pretty far from Ferris town on the national highway, making only very necessary stops.

She didn't even get to say goodbye to the brothers as they were escorted to another building for questioning.

Meanwhile she and her teacher had been left in an underground cell for a few days.

She had seen so many mountains and big cities on this journey but she wasn't the least bit excited. Only fear and anxiety remained.

"Are we there yet?" she asked out of habit and looked at one of the guards.

One of the guards looked at her with clear scorn and annoyance. He finally replied to her after calming down, "We will reach tomorrow."

After saying that he looked away at the horizon from the window.

Marie also looked out of the window and stared at the distance silently.

Silence was returned onto the wagon and many guards seemed relaxed. They were finally free from the travel and this woman, some of them had their homes in this city and were excited to return.

However that happiness disappeared when the silence was broken once again with a soft voice, "Are we there yet?"

Reaching the Capital City Sablefield, the two wagons traveled from a special entrance, available only to military personnel.

Soon the wagons got into a system of underground tunnels that were like mazes. Marie was not allowed to see the route and the window had been shut after entering the tunnels.

She thought they were in an area with a lot of other wagons due to the loud noises. She could hear the sounds of the moving wagon reverberating but couldn't even imagine where they were.

After a few more hours, the wagon came to a halt and the noises stopped. When she was let out of the wagon with handcuffs.

She stretched her body, the crack of every single bone could be heard loud and clear and a burning pain was felt on her rear.

She looked around and found herself in a huge room made of old bricks and many military personnel surrounding her.

They took her to a strange dungen two floors below that place. Shortly she was reunited with Krys who was wearing heavy shackles on all his limbs.

Her face brightened up before turning to a frown. The sight felt inhumane to her. She didn't appreciate the treatment they were getting.

The personnel left shortly, leaving only two guards posted outside the cell door.

No sound could be heard and the room was barely lit by one candle; they would periodically change every hour. But the candles wouldn't last more than forty minutes, leaving the two in darkness most of the time.

The thick walls of the dungeon not only stopped them from escaping but also from hearing any sounds outside. But no inside sound would go to the guards ears either.

Finally alone after so long, Krys asked Marie, "Do you remember our last conversation?"

When they were kept in the underground prison, they were in a very similar situation.

"Marie, why did you come with me? It was not a good decision."

After pouting slightly she replied, "You are my teacher. I will follow you everywhere."

Krys looked taken aback before letting out a chuckle.

His eyes fell on Mary's hands. "Why are you so bruised?"

"Ah… I used a sword for the first time today.", Marie replied with embarrassment in her voice.

Krys's face sank when he realised something, 'Although she calls me a teacher… I haven't taught her anything properly.'

He held her hands and felt the bruises while Marie turned into a red tomato.

"I'm sorry for being a bad teacher. I was so busy teaching you to run away that I forgot to teach you how to fight."

"Uhh… you don't need to feel bad about it. Nothing happened to me right. See, I'm safe.", Marie said with a funny expression, trying to cheer up Krys. This was what she would tell the kids when they accidentally injured her.

Krys smiled at Marie then realised he had been holding her hands way too long. He removed his grip slowly and faced Marie.

"Do you want to learn… how to fight?"

Marie's face brightened and she nodded a dozen times.

"We don't have our swords, but…" He hesitated. "I know a martial art that doesn't need weapons."
