Chapter 14 - Path to Power

He nodded, agreeing to help her and he was rewarded with a radiant smile that split her face, leaving Reign in a daze. she hastily stood up, "I'll go prepare."

Reign was left in a daze. He decided to continue his breakfast anyway. Mirage choose this moment to chime in, "You were wise to agree to help her."

"why?" Reign was curious.

"For one, you can't really resist if she forced you to go. Spellcaster are very adept at making people do what they want. There are spells to charm, enslave, enthrall, dominate and tame. So that was wise."

Reign felt his hair stand on end as he heard Mirage's words. He remembered all the novels and movies he had seen about such world.

It really drove home point that he wasn't on earth anymore. There were no rights and privileges here. It also reminded him of his weakness. He really needed to get stronger.

"Mirage, How do I get stronger?"

"I thought you'd never ask." He could practically feel the approval radiating from her voice. "In this world, there are several paths. There is the physical path which has warriors, rangers, knights, monks and rogues. There is also the spell caster path which had wizards, sorcerers, warlocks, druids and healers. There are also other paths but they basically fall in these categories."

Reign thought that it sounded much like the fantasy in his world. He had also played games and read books that had those categories.

Mirage continued, "For you. You have three best choices. You have a potent dragon bloodline, so you can be a sorcerer. Sorcerers excavate the potential of their bloodline, they gain spells and abilities from their bloodline, so they don't really need to practice like the rest. They naturally gain abilities and spells with time or effort."

Damn, Reign felt that this was definitely his generation's wet dream. Directly lying down and gaining abilities was too op. didn't that mean he just needed to lie down and wait.

Mirage seemed to decipher his thoughts, "it isn't as great as it seems. Most sorcerers don't have great bloodlines, and those that do find it difficult to awaken them. One can also awaken and then turn into a mindless beast overwhelmed by their bloodline. So it isn't all roses. You might turn to a dragon beast if you aren't careful."

Reign could tell Mirage was trying to caution him, but it still detract from the fact that being a sorcerer was too convenient.

Mirage sighed and continued, "While sorcerers are great and all. You can't follow this single path. Being a sorcerer grants you too few spells and abilities. The other path you can take is being a wizard, Wizards are one of the strongest beings in the real. Wizards learn magic. I can teach you the foundation. You bathed in the astral pond, so if you become a wizard, your path will be much easier."

Rein considered her words. It was true that even now he could feel the mana in the air, it was extremely close and intimate. But the thought of poring through books again was somewhat of a bummer.

Mirage continued, "alternatively, you could be a warrior. You have a very strong body thanks to the dragon essence. You also have that sword, it's at least a mythic weapon, if not a saint artifact. With it you will have a major advantage as a warrior. Few can stand against you if you pair it with your draconic bloodline. These are the most convenient paths you can take. They maximize your current advantages, so which one will you choose."

Reign considered his options, he knew what mirage said was right. He pondered silently then asked her, "what do you think I should do?"

Mirage was a bit stunned, she was a bit pleased he actually asked her. However her reply was quite merciless

"You are currently really weak, and with your luck you are definitely not going to be without enemies. So you should prioritize increasing your strength first."

Rein was disgruntled, Did she have to say it like that? Couldn't she have said he needed to grow stronger?

Mirage completely ignored his feelings, "you should first find a teacher to learn some sword moves from. Your body is basically at the first level of a professional already. If you had the proper skill together with that sword, you could perhaps fight an elite professional. But now with the way you are, any random professional can beat you up. No, forget a professional; an ordinary person with the right skill could perhaps give you a beating"

Reign decided to ignore Mirage, talking to her was too infuriating. But he really did need to learn some skills.

He remembered how the elite warrior had evaded his sword last time and hit him with a kick. If it had been a sword perhaps he would have been a goner.

Just as he was contemplating this Ravena burst into the room, "I'm ready. Let's go."

Ravena looked completely different. This time she had on an elegant robe that shimmered with a magical radiance. It had golden cuffs and several pockets, likely to hold magical ingredients. The robe still couldn't hide her bumpy figure, faintly outlining it.

She arrived before Reign and gestured, a distortion appeared before them before a glowing humming portal popped up. The glowing display of magic dazzled Reign's eyes and he couldn't help but feel a fire start to burn in his heart.

He was looking forward to the day he could perform similar feats.

Ravena leapt into the portal, disappearing from view. Reign looked at it hesitantly and Mirage couldn't help but tease him. "What are you afraid of, scaredy cat. You teleported through worlds before."

Reign ignored her and stepped into the portal, he expected to feel the weird sensation he had felt before when teleporting with Mirage, but it was absent. He only stepped through the portal and popped out the other side, as if walking from one room to another.

He stepped out into another section of the forest. It was much quieter and a slightly oppressive atmosphere could be felt.
