No one knew what to do now, all there efforts were of no use. The class went quiet as they tried to think about there next move, they knew they couldn't stay in the classroom forever, but they had no idea how to approach their current situation. All there lives they were taught how to tackle the modern world in the future, go to school, good grades, get into college, make their parents proud and secure a good job. But now their present situation couldn't be found in any textbook and not like they could walk into the library and pick out a book to solve their problems, they need to solve this problem alone.
Alexander kept making small conversation to keep up moral, but no one really wanted to talk they were too busy clouding their minds with questions. A few hours passed and it was now 2pm. James still tried calling his sister despite what Alex said, he knew that his call wouldn't go through and it was probably pointless, but with whatever luck he hoped it might. Finally they heard someone that wasn't within the classroom.
"Hello!? Anyone there?" A voice called from a distance. A few students went to the window stuck there head out in the direction and there they saw two girls.
" How are you guys?" One of the girls asked and a student answered saying they're trying to remain calm. Alexander also stepped to the window to ask a question.
" How many students are in your class?"
The girl with drew her head a after a quick minute she returned saying nine students and one teacher and in response Alexander told them to remain calm, after that everyone went quiet. James breath heavily tired of overworking his mind, he stood up and walked over to the window where he saw it was getting darker. James looked through the window before looking below him where he saw a few of the infected that were strangely looking up his way. A shiver ran down his spine as he looked down at the creatures, he didn't understand it, but an uncomfortable feeling tugged at his skin.
" What you looking at ?" a voice spoke beside James. James spun around startled by the suddenness with his eyes wide open.
"Alex, it's you" James said as he exhaled. " It's nothing" James said as he turned from the window and sat on the floor. Alex didn't say anything else as he understood his friend with the current situation. Only a few mutters and whispers swam through the classroom and over on the opposing class they were hearing singing, they sounded much more relaxed, or they were trying to be. Trying to be calm so they could forget there situation and not panic.
" I want to go home" a girl muttered.
" I think everyone wants to Audrey" Noel the girl that was in a skirt and bra responded annoyed, but was now wearing Alexander's jacket that he handed to her.
" I wasn't even talking to you" Audrey countered. It was obvious that both girls knew each other and possibly had some kind of ill relationship.
" Just leave her alone Noel, it's not her fault Simon choose her over you" Dave said looking over at Noel who bit back her tongue and turned away.
Felix saw James staring the window earlier so he went over to figure out what he was looking at. Felix walked over ignoring the fifth year student were bickering behind him. He could still hear noise coming from the opposing class room, at least they weren't arguing he thought. Felix didn't see anything differently, but as he slowly looked closer he noticed a few infected standing still looking up the building. Felix swallowed as he met the infected eyes he could feel a moment of dread, he wasn't able to look away, like if he did it would start moving or he was somehow tied to it's gaze. Something was moving in the corner of Felix's eye, but his brain hardly made a recognition to this, his eyes knew something was moving but it body didn't acknowledge it or he was too scared to break gaze with the infected. The image in the corner of Felix's eye moved faster and Felix finally managed to pull his gaze away and looked at whatever was moving in the corner of his eye.
As Felix noticed what was happening his heart quicken
" They're climbing the building" Felix muttered while stuttering. Alex heard and asked him to repeat himself and Felix did so louder catching the attention of the others. Alex, Alexander and a few others rushed over looking in the same direction as Felix and there they saw the infected students climbing up the building and not just one. James stood up hearing the commotion but every few seconds his heart was pounding, sinking, getting heavy as if something was about to happen. Alex looked down and saw more infected climbing but they were heading in their direction, he alerted the others. The class opposite to them was still singing and having their cherry moment, Alexander could tell their noise were attracting the infected.
"Melvie!" Alexander shouted and the girl stuck her head out happily. Alexander and a few students started shouting even louder telling her to close the windows and be quiet. As the shouting continued more students from Melvie's class came to the window wondering what was all the shouting about. Because multiple students were shouting and their voices carried panic, mixing together Melvie could hardly hear them. The students trying to warn Melvie's class started pointing below aggressively.
A student beside Melvie followed their fingers and screamed in shock catching the attention of others around her as she pointed. They could finally hear the warnings the others were giving but it was too late. The infected students moved up the wall as the noises continued, dragging it's body leaving a trail of blood. The students who were at the window along with Melvie disappeared from the window without closing it, but then a male student rushed over to close the windows, but it was already too late. The creature bang into the window and dropped into the classroom, everyone could hear the screams, the raking of desk and chairs and the growls of the infected student.
Everyone went silent as they knew those students were no more, now they had new information about the infected, they could climb walls. The students looked down again seeing the infected getting closer to them, they had forgotten that the infected were also approaching them, because they tried helping the others. As the infected got closer and the students scattered back James appeared with a chair in hand and threw it at the infected which fell from the building crashing to the ground, but even then it wasn't dead and kept dragging it's broken body elsewhere. They immediately shut the windows, but soon they saw a figure cast out the light from the classroom. They all held their breaths and stumbled from the window not knowing where to run.
" Don't move", Alexander muttered steadily.
Their legs were shaking and their hearts pounding, but they did as Alexander said and soon after a few intensified minutes that felt like hours the infected slowly wondered away, but even then they still didn't move. The students sat down waiting for a miracle and Alexander tried to think of a way to leave school grounds, they couldn't stay in the class room forever, eventually they would get hungry or thirsty.
"I think there's a way we could leave the school" Alexander said taking the floor. The students looked up at him waiting for an explanation.
" Let me guess, we go out there and ask them politely to let us through" Bryan asked jokingly.
" I wish" Ben scoffed.
" No, but from what I or we've noticed assuming you guys have, the infected students are sensitive to sound" Alexander explained calmly.
" so what?" Noel snapped with an attitude.
" I'm saying maybe if someone could get to the broadcasting room or the principal office and turn on the speakers to one side of the school, maybe the infected will follow and we can simply escape" Alexander explained. The students stared at him replaying what he just said over and over in their heads. None of them wanted to be stuck in the classroom and it sounds like a good idea, but who would want to face the creatures behind the door. Audrey shuddered at the thought and her friends noticed.
" So basically we just need to make it to the broadcasting room, play some noise and come back" Dave said standing up. Everyone looked up at him surprised that someone was interested in doing something so dangerous.
" Yes"
"I'll go too" Ben said standing up also. " We'll have to be fast though, are there any runners amongst us?" Ben asked looking around.
"Felix!" someone voiced. Felix shifted his leg hearing his name and looking over to who called it and there he saw his sister, he looked at her with a sharp gaze but said nothing. Ben asked Felix if it was true and he nodded. Felix clenched his fist and wondered why would his sister call his name, but there was nothing he could do about it and lying wouldn't help.
"If I remember correctly aren't you a good runner too Davia?" Felix asked with a bit of stain to his voice as he met his sister's gaze. She didn't flinch and answered truthfully as all eyes were on her. Another girl Davia's friend agreed to join in too making it five in total. Felix, Ben, Dave, Misty and Davia all gathered in front on the barricade door as the others carefully moved the desk and chairs away. Before they opened the door a student named Justin stuck his phone out through a small crack pass the door and used it as a mirror to view the hallways. His heart was racing as thousands of negative thoughts fought in his head, he then retrieve his hand trying to appear calm.
"There's nothing there" he said with a stutter. No one told him to do it but it was a very good idea.
The five students slid pass the poor and stepped into the empty bloodied hallway, before they left Alexander told them if it was too hard they should return. They walked down the hallway ever so quietly only hearing there own breathing, their heat beat and the steady steps they made.
