Chapter 8 – The Heir
Cordelia:
— Today I'm going to look for my parents near that abandoned city...
Clang... clang... clang...
— What's that noise? Sounds like swords... Could it be my parents?
She runs toward the sound and hears a shout:
— Come on, you bastards! I'll defeat all of you, get that inheritance, and protect everyone at the orphanage!
She looks and sees a teenage boy shouting at ten skeleton knights.
She thinks:
— He doesn't stand a chance...
— Divine Possession! — the boy murmurs.
A flash of white light bursts forth. He transforms: his hair turns white, and small ram horns grow from his head. Cordelia jumps, channels the power of light into her feet, and kicks the group of knights, causing an explosion.
As the dust settles, she looks back and sees the boy thrown two meters away. She walks over and asks:
— Hey... hey... are you okay?
He lifts his head with difficulty, looks at her... and faints.
— Looks like he passed out... — Cordelia mutters.
She thinks for a moment and decides to take him with her. After all, she hadn't seen another human since being separated from her parents.
More importantly, he was too weak to be a threat.
— Well... better take him before the noise attracts those things...
She carries him and runs toward her shelter. Once there, she lays him on the couch and murmurs:
— Cancel.
Her appearance reverts: a small girl with brown hair and green eyes.
She looks at the boy on the bed and thinks:
— He's badly hurt... If I don't stop the bleeding in his leg, he'll die...
As she gets closer, she notices some healing potions at his waist.
— Why didn't he use them? — she wonders.
Then she reflects:
— He probably made the stupid decision to fight ten knights even though he's just a normal person... Must be a rookie who panicked during a life-or-death moment and forgot the potions.
She opens his mouth, pours the potion in, and the wound begins to heal.
Leaning against the wall, Cordelia says:
— Now I just have to wait for you to wake up...
Ahhh!
A scream. Adrian looks around, confused.
— Where am I?
Cordelia replies:
— You're in my home. Now... can you tell me how you got here?
