The SUV swerved sharply, the tires screeching against the asphalt as Leo took another turn at breakneck speed. Bella's heart slammed against her ribs, her fingers digging into the leather seat.
"They're still on us," Leo growled, glancing at the rearview mirror.
Damien didn't flinch. He reached under his jacket and pulled out a gun, his grip steady, his expression unreadable.
"Keep driving," he ordered.
Bella's breath hitched. "What are you doing?"
Damien turned to her, his dark eyes smoldering with an emotion she couldn't name. "Ending this."
Before she could protest, he rolled down the window and leaned out, aiming at the pursuing SUV.
A single shot rang out.
The front tire of the SUV exploded, sending the vehicle skidding wildly before flipping onto its side. The second SUV swerved to avoid the wreck, crashing into a streetlamp.
Leo didn't slow down. He took another sharp turn, leading them onto an empty highway.
Silence filled the car, save for the sound of Bella's ragged breathing.
"You—" she started, but her voice failed her.
Damien turned to her, his gaze unreadable. "They won't stop, Bella. And neither will I."
Something inside her shifted. Fear. Desire. A dangerous mix of both.
She had crossed a line the moment she got into this car.
