Hyuga Kagami stared intently at Fukado as he stepped out from the shadows, his expression extremely grim.
Earlier, he had used the "Heavenly Spin Blade" technique for the first time. To ensure the smooth execution of the Gentle Fist's Rotation technique and to balance the awkwardness of having one hand using palm techniques while the other wielded a sword, Kagami had consumed a significant amount of chakra.
On top of that, the use of the Rotating Ruyi technique had drained even more chakra. Now, less than ten percent of his chakra remained.
If the attack had succeeded in heavily injuring Fukado and other high-ranking Cloud shinobi, the chakra cost would've been worth it. Without the interference of Fukado and his peers, whether in battle or retreat, Hyuga Kagami would have had a much better chance.
But now that the ambush had failed, the situation for Kagami and Shisui had taken a bad turn.
Kagami glanced sideways at Shisui and his face darkened further.
Within the protective shell of Susanoo, Shisui was already panting, sweat beading across his forehead.
The intense battle so far had consumed much of his chakra. Combined with the strain of using the Mangekyō Sharingan's eye techniques, it was clear that the toll was too much for someone still so young and physically undeveloped.
Fukado shouted, "Attack!"
With his command, the surrounding Cloud ninja launched their offensive.
Kagami quickly threw several shuriken, executing the severely paralyzed and poisoned mid- and low-ranking Cloud ninjas nearby. Then he leapt backward, retreating into Shisui's Susanoo.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The moment Kagami entered Susanoo, a barrage of attacks followed, explosions erupting violently around the giant spectral armor.
When the smoke cleared, Susanoo still stood tall and imposing, with Shisui and Kagami completely unharmed inside.
Seeing this, Fukado, who had retreated to a distance, looked shocked.
It had been a long time since the Susanoo of the Uchiha clan had appeared in the ninja world. Fukado had no idea what the green construct truly signified.
But with his extensive experience, he could still make an informed judgment.
From the strange and powerful Rotating Ruyi earlier to the current Susanoo, these were clearly high-level techniques far beyond the reach of ordinary shinobi.
Even though Kagami and Shisui were dressed in the signature ANBU gear of the Hidden Leaf and wore masks, Fukado correctly deduced that they were bloodline-limit users from Konoha.
Every such shinobi was a living treasure trove of intel. That realization only made Fukado more determined to capture them.
"Trap them! Keep attacking! Don't let up!"
As he subtly retreated, Fukado issued more loud commands.
"Earth Style: Earth Prison!"
"Earth Style: Earth Wall Link!"
"Fire Style: Grand Explosion Jutsu!"
"Wind Style: Whirlwind!"
With his orders, four elite Cloud jonin surrounded Susanoo and launched their attacks simultaneously.
Earthen walls sprang from the ground, trapping the massive Susanoo in place.
The combination of Fire and Wind Style jutsus stirred a raging inferno, a sea of flames that surged toward Susanoo.
At the same time, Shisui gritted his teeth and unleashed Susanoo's secret technique: "Susanoo: Ninety-Nine!"
The emerald-green Susanoo opened its chest armor, revealing a glowing chakra mass shaped like a tomoe. Countless green chakra arrows burst forth from it.
Meanwhile, Kagami didn't stay idle inside. He threw dozens of kunai, shuriken, and other throwing tools, all tied with explosive tags.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The violent explosions shook the entire landscape.
Both sides unleashed their attacks almost simultaneously. Ninjutsu, throwing weapons, explosive tags, and chakra arrows collided in the valley, illuminating the night like broad daylight.
As the smoke cleared, the battlefield revealed its devastation.
The earthen walls and prison the Cloud ninjas had just created were now largely destroyed. More than a dozen of the Cloud shinobi directly in front of Susanoo were either dead or critically injured.
Yet in the center of the battlefield, Kagami and Shisui remained unscathed!
Shisui, however, had collapsed to his knees, both hands on the ground, coughing violently. He looked like he couldn't hold on much longer.
Fukado, hiding in the distance, observed the Susanoo carefully and thought to himself, "Such terrifying power must come with an equally massive chakra cost. That kid looks like he's at his limit."
From the earlier attacks, Susanoo had proven its unmatched defensive power. Any ordinary shinobi would have been scared out of their wits facing such a foe. But not Fukado.
First of all, he was a powerful elite jonin with deadly techniques of his own.
Second, they were still within the Land of Lightning. Reinforcements were arriving by the minute. No matter how strong the enemy, they couldn't possibly stand against an entire nation.
Even the Third Raikage had fallen to a siege by ten thousand Iwagakure ninja. If a legendary figure like him couldn't withstand a country's combined might, how could two teenage Leaf ninjas?
"No matter the angle of attack, nothing seems to break through that green chakra avatar. Is there any way to counter this jutsu?" As Fukado pondered, an idea struck him. "What if I attack from underground instead of above?"
He quickly performed a series of complex hand seals and pressed his palm firmly onto the ground.
Inside Susanoo.
After a fit of coughing, Shisui spoke weakly, "Kagami, you should run... I can't hold it much longer."
Kagami replied between breaths, "It's not time to give up yet."
Though the situation was dire, Hyuga Kagami wasn't out of options. The regeneration technique he had obtained from Orochimaru was his trump card.
By sacrificing part of his life force, he could instantly heal his injuries and restore a portion of his chakra.
With that, he could control the Third Kazekage puppet and break out using the Magnet Release: Iron Sand Heavenly Wings.
As for revealing the puppet of the Third Kazekage, it no longer mattered. If they died here, protecting the puppet would be meaningless.
Just as Kagami reached into his tool pouch at his waist, he suddenly felt a faint tremor beneath his feet.
Before he could react, a crack opened in the ground, and from it surged a dazzling giant serpent made of lightning, striking straight at the unsuspecting Kagami and Shisui...
