Chapter 18 - Ripping The Beast Apart

"We're going to take a train?" Luke held Selena, turning to give Ice a questioning glare, a frown forming on his face, "It's massive, and we could be easily found if we took a train."

"I know its public transport, but we can't take a bus or go to the airport." Ice explained calmly, walking down the street with the others, "The station has less security than others,"

"The train is too big, if something goes wrong it'll be hard for us to escape," Luke raised another point. He paused, then added, "Besides, there could be a crowd of people in there."

"The heroes' association wouldn't try anything with so many casualties." Ice defended, waving her hands to the side, "Taking a small vehicle makes us an easier target for them."

Luke wanted to speak, but she had a point there. Road blocks could be set up once the information of their route was discovered, and their bus would be taken down on the road.

Silas kept his mouth shut, his gaze darting from left to right. The crowd remained just as busy as it was when he arrived, even though it was barely daybreak by his calculations.

He had barely any sleep since he opened his eyes in this world, yet he did not feel tired enough to fall asleep. His eyes snapped to the right, he couldn't sleep even if he wanted to.

A familiar masked man stood a a shady corner, staring at them as they walked off. The second he blinked his eyes, the familiar google-eyed masked man vanished from Silas' gaze.

He searched for the man with his eyes, but Silas could not find him. After some time, he paused, staring dead straight into the street, "We are going the same way we had came in?"

"Oh yes, My Lord." Luke affirmed, nodding his head. He and Ice were oblivious, or so he deduced, to the men tracking them from the shadows, "I found you outside the metropolis."

"So the train is outside the city?" Silas wondered, then he sighed. He looked from left to right, wondering when a guy would come out to apprehend them, "What about your clan?"

Luke clenched his fists hearing that, and Silas raised a brow. After some time, he spoke in a determined voice, "I will definitely come back here soon. Don't worry about me, Lord."

Silas nodded his head. He had Luke hold the briefcases, while Selena moved on her own accord. For some reason, she did not try to run away from them, and Silas took notice of it.

They walked out the city, and the second they stepped foot on the deserted road leading to the train station, Silas halted. He turned to the side and his pupils shrunk to needlepoint.

Ice who led the way continued walking for a while before she stopped, turning around a second later to see both Luke and Silas had stopped moving. She frowned, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing in particular," A calm, deep voice replied. The masked man stepped out of the shadows with his hands behind his back, his gaze locked on Silas, "I see you're all leaving?"

"Trust me when I say this," Silas started, his hands turning into iron, looking past their visitor and further into the shadows where a pair of eyes gazed back, "This is not the time."

An ear shattering roar sounded from behind them, and everyone jumped into alert. The creatures' eyes exploded in a furious red light, then the monster lunged with its bare fangs.

'It didn't trigger a choice quest?' Silas guessed that this wasn't anything too important, then he turned to Luke who had stepped forward to 'defend' Selena, "Take her and leave!"

Hearing the command, Luke nodded his head, grabbed Selena and bolted. Ice, stunned for words, watch Luke until Silas explained, "I'll help you three to safely get on the train."

Just as Ice turned to join them, the creature rushed out of the shadows, landing behind Argus— the masked man. The beast's true form revealed as it stood out in the low sunlight.

The creature stood on four legs with its body shrouded in shadowy fur. It had the head of a cat with a pair of ruby eyes, and its massive claws gleamed in the early morning light.

Argus, feeling all the hair rise on his body, turned around slowly to gaze at the cat-like monster out the corner of his eyes. He clenched his fists as a cold shiver licked up his spine.

The cat swung its paws, and he spun around, crossing his arms in front of his face. The paws slammed into his guard, and Argus was blown into the side, rolling across the ground.

The cat shifted its gaze to Silas, uttering a low growl before charging him. Silas blinked, raised his hands and then swung them to the side, and the cat was dragged out of his way.

The cat, grabbed by an invisible force, was tossed over Argus, crashing into the ground some metres away. It struggled to stand after that, baring its fangs at Silas, then charging.

"It looks like some sort of summoned pet." Silas observed, swinging his left hand in an arc, and watching as the cat was spun around in a circle by a force only visible to his eyes.

|Jimmie Eyre— Stop playing with that thing, my man.

|MrOOtega— This is cruel and inhumane! I want more.

"As much as I'd like to toy with it, I have to get on the train." Silas decided to try what he had on his mind. He made grabbing motions with both hands, then began pulling them.

The cat, which was about to rush him again, thrashed about as it floated in the air. All the shadows in its body stretched, turning into spikes, and its eyes expanded with its head.

This continued for a while, as Silas watched in silence. The shadowy layer peeled away following a 'ripping' sound, then a 'snap' followed as the body exploded in a burst of blood.

The shadowy fur rained on the ground as both ends of the cat followed, then its bloody remains rained on them. Silas lowered his hands, then he turned around to leave the place.

Argus who'd been knocked out by the cat, stayed there. After some time, the remains of the cat burned away in a scented luminous red flame, vanishing into thin air after a while.
