Ellis ignored his comment and simply continued in the direction of his mentor's quarters.Nyx shrugged and leisurely followed.
Upon returning to the dorms, Ellis habitually straightened his desk and prepared to write his book, while Nyx casually slumped down on the couch, idly flipping through a book he'd slipped in from somewhere, and after a moment of reading, he suddenly spoke up, "Ellis."
Ellis didn't look up, "What?"
Nyx turned the book over a page, his tone carrying a bit of a lazy smile, "Have you ever regretted summoning me?"
Ellis stopped his pen and looked up at him with his eyes.
Nyx's scarlet eyes held a bit of teasing characteristic of demons, but hid a hint of undetectable seriousness. He seemed to be asking a casual question, and then he seemed to really care about the answer.
After a moment of silence, Ellis withdrew his gaze and said faintly, "No."
Nyx was stunned for a moment, then curved the corners of his mouth into a meaningful smile, "Oh?What an unexpected answer."
Ellis ignored him and continued to look down at his book manuscript.
Nyx stared at him for a moment, hummed softly, tossed the book in his hand aside casually, rolled over and sat up, resting his hands behind his head and swaying his legs leisurely, "Since you don't regret it, what are you going to do to place me?"
The tip of Ellis' pen lurched slightly as he looked up at Nyx, seemingly pondering the deeper meaning of his statement.
"You're already free."Ellis said calmly, "No bonds, no restrictions."
"Free?"Nyx laughed softly, his tone meaningful, "But I'm still staying within the confines of your contract, aren't I?"
Ellis didn't deny it, Nyx was right, despite the fact that he didn't impose any mandatory orders on Nyx, the contract between them still existed, and the contract itself was an invisible bond.
Nyx looked at him with a characteristic demonic smirk at the corners of his mouth, "So, have you ever wondered if I would want more?"
"More?"Ellis put down his pen and looked straight at him, "What do you want?"
Nyx narrowed his eyes like a laid back but dangerous predator, "Guess?"
Ellis was silent for a moment, then spoke faintly, "If you want to break the contract, I won't stand in the way."
Nyx froze for a moment, then burst out laughing, "Ellis, you're so boring."
Ellis ignored his banter and instead continued, "So what do you want?"
Nyx propped his chin up and smiled wistfully, "Haven't thought about it yet, but ..." he winked and gave a devilish grin, "Since I'm your contracted demon, you have to be responsible for me, right?"
Ellis frowned slightly, "Responsible?"
"Well," Nyx said matter-of-factly, "I was summoned by you, so you can't leave me with nothing to do, can you?At the very least, give me something to enjoy."
Ellis mused for a moment, then closed the manuscript and said in a calm tone, "Come with me to the library tomorrow."
Nyx raised an eyebrow, "What for? You're going to make me your book boy?"
"Your knowledge of the Abyss and demons should be more comprehensive than the books in the library."Ellis said, "But you don't want to talk about the Abyss in class, so I'm going to look up the information myself."
Nyx narrowed his eyes and looked at him with a smirk, "So you're going to counter my 'half-truths' with academic research?"
Ellis didn't deny or admit it, just looked at him faintly.
Nyx stared at him for a moment, then suddenly shrugged and lazily leaned back on the couch, "Fine, I'll go with you tomorrow."
Ellis nodded and said nothing more, picking up his pen again and continuing to write about his research.
Nyx, on the other hand, watched him silently for a moment, the corners of his mouth curling up into a meaningful smile, before lying back down, picking up a book in his hand and flipping through it casually.
Silence returned to the dormitory, leaving only the rustling sound of Ellis's pen tip scratching across the paper, and the occasional soft sound of Nyx flipping through the book.
