Chapter 8 - Democracy at Its Peak!

Laura's POV—

Mr. Voice is throwing gifts like crazy. I am pretty sure this 'thing' is not generous. Either he wants to establish a 'reward' system based on the level of appeasement or, he wants to establish a hierarchy.

You all must be wondering... why did I use the term 'hierarchy?' Mr. Voice wants to establish 'master-servant' relationship with us. Like a master who rewards his servants, if they follow his instructions accurately. An indirect means of control or, a leash to hold us. It wants to say, 'Accept my rules and regulations, and you might get your wishes fulfilled.' As for these 'wishes?' There is a quite a good chance... their 'wishes' might just stay as 'wishes.'

"Moving onto the next phase. Your next is elimination."

The word 'elimination' made everyone's breath hitch. Maybe I was wrong. It wants beyond a 'master-servant' relationship. Does Mr. Voice want to establish itself as a god? One who can judge whether we live or, die.

"Elimination!"

"Wait! Are we gonna be killed?!"

"Yeah! Less competition!"

Mixed reactions were heard by my ears. Fools! There is no way it wants us to lessen our competition. It is trying to find loyal ones... those who will sell themselves. And these persons' survival rate will be much higher than the normal ones.

Should I try to mix in them? No. It would be more idiotic to mix with them. Being a 'loyal dog' will make my life harder. For its protection, it would definitely demand something in control. A failsafe, if I say.

Mr. Voice said, "This phase involves you nominating your fellow players. You can say voting. Players will vote to nominate their fellow players, and those players... whose votes are going to be more than five... they will be thrown out of this train. Understood? So, let's begin. I will call out each one of your names."

"Adrein Elcole!"

A huge holographic screen appeared as soon as it called this name. The screen contained his biodata. His name, age, gender, occupation... everything. A small screen also appeared beside each of us... for us to vote. Oh my god! Democracy at its peak!

NOMINATE- YES/NO (Click on the option you want to choose.)

"On what basis should we cast our votes? How will we know whom to nominate? I don't think this phase involves luck," said Louie.

"A reward for you. Ah, as for the question. You should focus on the occupation, physical and mental capability," replied Mr. Voice.

Occupation: Cyclist

Physical Capability: 72/100

Mental Capability: 61/100

"He is pretty good," said a man. His voice was full of awe.

"We need powerful people like him! The stronger we are, the better it will for us!"

Everyone choose 'NO.' These fools are really... ah, fuck it! Not having any other choice, I did the same, and chose 'NO.'

RESULT- ZERO VOTES

FATE- ADREIN ELCOLE= NOT NOMINATED

"Emma Colven!"

The result was same. Kristen, Louie, and Gabriel were not nominated as well. The policewoman also didn't a single vote against her. These fools think she will protect them. Are they brainless? Just take a look at her, she doesn't give a fuck if you people die or not.

Some people did get two to three votes, but they weren't nominated. Until now, only three people were nominated. These people's stats were very low.

"Ottis Svander!"

Occupation: An executed criminal

Physical Capability: 91/100

Mental Capability: 51/100

Everyone shivered seeing his stats. Although, some people just narrowed their eyes at him. Ottis, this guy... he was the one who pushed me. And his occupation is not all surprising, at least to me that is. Before any of you accuse me, I want to clarify... I didn't think of him as a criminal based on his looks. His aura is really... disgusting. If you are within his 'disgusting' presence, it will make your skin crawl in revulsion.

"He is a criminal!"

"Shush! Don't yell! He might hear us!"

"He was executed! We can't keep a criminal like him with us!"

"But what about his physical strength? He is a powerhouse! A must for our team!"

"He is right! We just need to control him! And that's it!"

An argument started between two groups. One group wanted to nominate him, and the other wanted not to. Thinking about the most probable outcome, I sighed deeply. I know what will happen. Humans are really fickle creatures. They are ready to do anything for their survival, yet they are the ones who will talk about morality when the situation is against them.
