Chapter 12 - CHAPTER 12: Training and Battle

Pokémon Center Training Grounds – Early Morning

The sun had just risen over the Pokémon Center, casting a warm golden hue across the training grounds. Mia stood at the edge of the field, her breath visible in the crisp morning air. Beside her, Audino and Chansey stretched, ready for the day's training.

"Alright, team. Before we embark on our journey, we need to ensure we're in top shape. Let's start by reviewing your moves."

She turned to Audino first.

"Audino, show me what you've got."

Audino nodded and stepped forward.

He inhaled and shouted a powerful sound wave rippled through the air.

"Impressive, its Hyper Voice. That's a strong move. Let's see your other abilities."

Audino approach her and touch her hand.

A soft, healing energy enveloped Mia's hand.

"Hmm, very soothing, What else?"

'That was Heal Pulse which she already know that Audino poses it by witnessing him helping nurse joy with some healing.'

Audino acting cute winking at her.

A gentle aura surrounded Mia, causing her to smile.

"Hahaha, very charming." 'Attrack then' she thought listing the move. "And your last move?"

Audino demonstrated a swift punch to a nearby training dummy, his fist is coated with green energy.

'Nice... it's Drain Punch.'

"Great. We'll focus on enhancing your Hyper Voice, Drain Punch and we need to train you're speed. Strengthening these will give us a solid foundation."

She turned to Chansey.

"Your turn, Chansey."

Chansey stepped forward, ready to demonstrate. Chansey pointed at her pouch.

"Okay that Soft-Boiled Egg. What other moves do you know?"

A pink pulsing light is shown on her paws.

"Oh yeah heal pulse. Next?"

Chansey open her mouth and a soft lullaby filled the air, causing her and Audino to yawn.

"Okay, that sing" still yawning "...And?"

She approach the dummy and delivered a series of quick slaps, each landing with precision.

"That's double slap. So you have more move?"

Chansey nooded charged forward, tackling a training dummy with force.

"Nice, thats strong, that must be Take Down base on the force, not just a tackle. What to doooo.... hmmmm...we'll work on enhancing your Soft-Boiled and Heal Pulse. Strengthening these will ensure we stay healthy on our journey."

'Audino will be focusing on offense while Chansey will be the support.'

After reviewing their moves, Mia gathered her Pokémon.

"Now, let's focus on building our stamina. Our journey will involve long walks and hikes. We need endurance."

She led them through a series of exercises: jogging laps around the training grounds. Audino and Chansey kept pace, their determination evident in their movements.

"Great job, team. We're one step closer to being ready for our adventure."

As the sun climbed higher, Mia and her Pokémon continued their training, knowing that each effort brought them closer to their goal.

The sun now stood high overhead, casting sharp shadows across the field as the crisp morning turned into a warm, breezy afternoon. Mia wiped sweat from her brow, her body buzzing with adrenaline. Beside her, Audino and Chansey stood alert, focused from their morning drills.

Then, a young voice called out across the grounds.

"Hey! Im alex, I saw your training earlier. Wanna battle?"

Mia turned to see a boy around ten or eleven, his cap backwards, eyes sparkling with the excitement only a rookie trainer could have. He gripped his Poké Balls with both hands and smiled wide.

She smile looking at her Pokémon, which the seems okay with the idea, heart quickening. "Hey! The name is Mia...sure, we could use some experience, Two on two?"

"Deal! Let's go!"

---

They are facing each other while Bea, the assistant nurse and Mia's friend, on the side holding two flags, her usual warm demeanor now calm and professional.

"Alright. Friendly two-on-two battle. First trainer to have both Pokémon unable to battle loses. Trainers, ready?"

"Ready!" Mia & Alex:

"Begin!"

Alex get a pokeball on his waist and throw it releasing a cute tadpole Pokémon.

"Poliwag, let's go!"

"You're up first, Audino!"

Poliwag bounced in place, chirping with energy, while Audino stepped forward, composed.

The second Mia saw her Pokémon in position, her heart leapt. This was it—her first real battle.

She felt the nerves, yes, but more than that—excitement.

"Bubble, now!"

"Dodge Audino and use Hyper Voice!"

Audino sidestepped, bubbles bursting behind him, then roared with a sonic blast that sent Poliwag rolling.

"Get up poliwag and use Water Gun!" the kid commanded making the little pokemon stand and aim at Audino.

"Drain Punch!" making Audino run towards Poliwag. The jet of water hit Audino, but he pushed through, landed a glowing punch, and Poliwag collapsed with a squeak.

"Poliwag is unable to battle!" Bea said raising the flag on my direction.

Mia exhaled sharply. Her first knockout. She caught Audino's eye and smiled. He nodded back with quiet pride.

"Okay, let's go, Gloom!" Alex said putting Poliwag on her Pokéball. Then released his other Pokemon.

A puff of pollen and droopy leaves announced Gloom's arrival.

"Alright, Audino, return. Chansey, I need you!" Audino returned to my side while Chansey hopped into the field with her usual cheerful grin.

"Stun Spore!" Alex commanded which Gloom releasing a pollen cloud to Chansey's direction.

"Chansey, run wide—don't let it touch you!" she shouted hurriedly. Chansey darted around the pollen cloud—clumsy but light on her feet—and kept the spores from settling.

"Thats it Chansey, get in close! Then hit Gloom with Double Slap!"

Chansey rushed forward, slapping Gloom repeatedly with focused strikes.

"Acid!" Alex shouted seeing Gloom being Slap a lot .

The purple sludge hit Chansey hard across her side.

Mia's chest tightened. Her eyes widened when she saw the burning marks from the attack. It looked worse than any spar they'd done in training.

Chansey stumbled. Mia froze. She couldn't speak. Her throat locked. Her heart raced.

'She's hurt. Really hurt.'

"Now—Razor Leaf!" Now alex commanded taking opportunity while the opponent is still frozen.

Leaves shot forward, spinning and sharp. Chansey couldn't dodge. The flurry hit hard, knocking her off her feet and back several yards.

Dust settled. Chansey lay there.

"Chansey is unable to battle! The winner of round two is Alex!" Bea again raises the flag but on alex direction.

Mia blinked. Her lips parted, finally finding breath again.

She lost this round.

Audino and run and helped Chansey up, supporting her with a gentle arm. Mia was kneeling.

"I'm sorry... "

Chansey gave her a tired but proud smile.

Mia smiled faintly at the kid

"Thank you, Alex. That was a good match."

Alex who was grinning "Yeah That was a great fight. Let's battle again sometime. I wanna see how strong you get... Bye" saying goodbye, the kid entered the Pokémon Center to heal his Pokémon.

"Well, that was a great battle for a rookie." Bea said but she didn't hear it still distracted of what happened.

Mia looked at her team—Audino steady and alert, Chansey leaning against him, her egg pouch smudged with dirt.

Her chest still hurt with guilt, but...

She wasn't crushed.

She was learning.

The hesitation, the fear—she had to overcome it.

Mia helped her Pokémon to the bench where they rest and Audino healing the injury of Chansey.

Bea looked at her conflicted face

"You okay?"

She sighed

"Yeah. I lost that round. And I needed it."

She looked out over the field, now quiet again.

"We're not just training now. We're becoming a team."

Audino gave a quiet nod. Chansey rested against her arm.

The sun was still high, and the day wasn't over.

She grinning getting more determine.

"We've got work to do."
