Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Ponytail Girl and Slick-Haired Handsome Guy

The few gunshots successfully attracted the helicopter's attention. The pilot directly adjusted the helicopter's altitude to be parallel with that room so that the soldiers inside the cabin could shoot into the room.

After a round of sweeping fire, the entire room was blown to pieces, but the soldier who fired did not see Aiden's figure inside. So, he patted the pilot's shoulder, signaling him to get closer.

The pilot was highly skilled and bold. He actually moved the helicopter closer, so close that the helicopter's rotors were almost touching the wall of the building.

At this distance, if the soldier had enough courage, he could've even jumped directly over. But he didn't, so he just stretched his neck out to look into the room.

Bang!

With the sound of a gunshot, he was hit in the face by Aiden, who suddenly appeared at the door. His body tilted and he fell off the helicopter.

But he had a safety rope tied to him, so he stopped halfway down. However, the downward force caused the helicopter to sway slightly, startling the pilot into quickly making adjustments.

While the pilot was busy stabilizing the helicopter and had no time to care about him, Aiden had already thrown away the M4 in his hand. He pulled out a military knife, bit it between his teeth, and suddenly accelerated toward the helicopter.

From the doorway to the window was only seven or eight meters. Aiden practically ran that distance in the blink of an eye. Then he stepped onto the windowsill, using the force to leap into the cabin.

Before he could even steady himself, Aiden, holding the knife, stabbed it into the abdomen of another soldier who was stunned by his crazy action. Then he released the handle, grabbed the pistol from the soldier's chest, turned, and blew out the co-pilot's head, then pointed the gun at the main pilot.

"Don't kill me," the pilot shouted in panic, cold sweat pouring down his face.

"Don't worry," Aiden sneered, then took the pilot's pistol. After glancing at the security soldiers chasing from the ground, he said to the pilot, "Ascend, and hover above the rooftop of the building."

"Yes!" The pilot quickly nodded and flew to the rooftop.

After the helicopter stabilized on the rooftop, the pilot raised both hands high and looked at Aiden pitifully.

"You can get off now," Aiden said. "And take him down too." He pointed with the gun at the co-pilot's corpse.

The pilot had no choice but to obediently carry the co-pilot's corpse and jump onto the rooftop.

Before he could even steady himself, a gunshot rang out, and he fell.

Aiden didn't even glance at him. He just blew the smoke from the gun's muzzle, turned, and sat in the cockpit, skillfully taking off with the helicopter.

The UBCS soldiers on the ground still didn't know the helicopter had changed hands. When Aiden flew the helicopter over their heads, those soldiers only cursed a bit and didn't scatter.

Faced with such a great opportunity, how could Aiden let it slip? He let out a cold smile and aimed the helicopter's nose at the group of soldiers.

Only then did the soldiers on the ground realize something was wrong. But before they could react, the rotary machine guns on both sides of the helicopter opened fire.

Half-meter-long fire snakes sprayed out. The soldiers fell in droves. After the rotary guns stopped spinning, except for a few clever ones who had hidden in nearby buildings, most of the soldiers had been shredded by bullets.

Although Aiden really wanted to finish off the remaining security soldiers, he knew it wasn't possible, so he immediately turned the helicopter around and quickly flew away.

But he hadn't flown far when another helicopter appeared behind him, called in by the surviving soldiers for reinforcements.

Aiden glanced back and saw the helicopter hot on his trail. He immediately lowered his altitude and flew close to the ground, pushing the helicopter's power to the limit in hopes of shaking them off.

But the other helicopter's pilot clearly wasn't a pushover, he also lowered his altitude and stayed tightly on his tail.

After flying across several streets, Aiden realized one thing. The enemy's piloting skills were better than his, and he couldn't shake them off.

So, he simply stopped trying. At the next intersection, he made a sharp turn and flipped the helicopter around.

The move was so sudden that the enemy pilot almost crashed into him. If his reaction hadn't been quick enough to pull up and fly over Aiden's head, they both would've died together.

In fact, Aiden was also scared stiff. Cold sweat had soaked his clothes, but he didn't have time to worry. While the enemy pulled up, Aiden made a maneuver, lifting the helicopter's nose high, drawing an arc in an attempt to get behind the opponent and counterattack.

But the opponent guessed Aiden's intention and made a large-angle climb maneuver as well, drawing an arc in the opposite direction.

The two helicopters performed like air show stunt planes, drawing a heart shape in the sky, and unsurprisingly, they ended up facing each other head-on.

At that moment of head-on collision, both helicopters opened fire simultaneously. Bullets, like a curtain of rain, covered the sky as they shot at each other.

Light helicopters couldn't even stop bullets from slightly larger rifles, unsurprisingly, both helicopters got hit.

Aiden's face was covered in blood, cut by shattered glass from the bullets, but he smiled, because he had won.

The enemy's helicopter had been hit in the rotor. Losing power, it crashed directly onto the street and burst into a dazzling flame.

However, even though Aiden won, his helicopter also suffered serious damage. Multiple parts of the body were riddled with bullets, and it began shaking violently.

Aiden gripped the control stick tightly, trying to stabilize the helicopter, but it was useless. The helicopter started flying in a bizarre manner.

It had completely lost control.

At this point, the helicopter was still sixty to seventy meters above ground. There were no parachutes equipped. He had no way to jump. Of course, even if he had a parachute, he wouldn't want to use it. With this height and the wind pressure from the rotors, jumping was no different from suicide. So he could only try adjusting the throttle to reduce power output and slow the rotor speed to let the helicopter descend naturally.

After trying a few times, the throttle didn't respond at all. It maintained its original speed.

Aiden could only slap the instrument panel hard, then released the control stick, letting the helicopter fly on its own.

The "unmanned" helicopter quickly flew across most of the city and reached the skies above Raccoon City's outskirts.

While flying over the suburbs, Aiden focused all his attention on observing the surroundings.

Although he gave up control of the helicopter, his desire to live wouldn't allow him to miss even the slightest chance of survival.

And soon, that chance appeared.

Just as the helicopter was about to fly out of the suburbs, Aiden suddenly saw a silver-white ribbon stretching across a road in the distance.

He looked carefully again, confirmed it was a river, and immediately got excited. He knew what to do…

Jumping from a helicopter without safety measures was extremely dangerous. Even if he landed in a river, if his posture was wrong, it'd be no different from slamming into concrete. To avoid mistakes, Aiden began removing anything on his body that might throw off his balance. Finally keeping only the samurai-blade pistol Jill gave him and the walkie-talkie Ada gave him.

After preparations, the helicopter flew over the river. He immediately opened the cockpit door, stuck out half his body, and once the helicopter crossed one-third of the river, Aiden jumped out.

As soon as he left the helicopter, the wind pressure from the rotor blew his body off course. Luckily, the angle wasn't too bad. He adjusted his posture, crossed his arms tightly over his chest, and minimized surface area.

Even so, the moment he hit the water, Aiden felt a tremendous impact shoot from his feet through his entire body. His vision went black, and he almost passed out.

Fortunately, besides being physically strong, Aiden had strong willpower. He forced his head above the water, took a deep breath, and began swimming toward the shore.

But it had been raining for days in Raccoon City. The river was much more turbulent than usual. He swam with great difficulty, his speed slow.

By the time he finally reached the shore, even someone with his stamina felt utterly exhausted.

Staggering up the bank, Aiden didn't dare stay. He followed the road ahead, because the wilderness also had infected creatures, and they were even harder to deal with than zombies.

No one knew how long he walked, but finally, Aiden saw a gas station ahead. His face lit up and he quickened his pace.

His current condition was very bad. Besides aching all over, his head was dizzy and he was starting to black out. He needed rest immediately.

[Evening]

[Miz Oil Gas Station]

Inside the convenience store, Claire was cautiously searching. She held a Glock pistol, taken from a policeman who had been bitten to death by a "similar kind".

"Damn it, why did I run into something like this? What the hell happened to Raccoon City?" Claire muttered softly, forcing herself to cross a half-eaten corpse.

She had come to Raccoon City to look for her brother, to give him a surprise. But obviously, the one getting surprised was her.

If her brother hadn't taught her some tactical skills, she would've already been bitten by those monsters.

"My dear brother, please don't be dead. You must be alive! Otherwise, I'll have nowhere to vent my anger." She grumbled again.

Slowly pushing open an iron door, a corridor appeared in front of her. At the end, she could clearly see light coming from outside.

"Great, that's the exit." Claire sped up, eager to leave this ghost place.

Just as she reached the end of the corridor and was about to step out, a blinding flashlight shone on her.

"Crouch down." A male voice with a slight foreign accent spoke from behind the light.

Claire was smart. She could tell the voice held no malice, so she immediately crouched.

Bang!

With a sharp gunshot, a zombie behind her fell down. Then, a hand reached out to her.

Claire looked up, stunned, it was an uncommon Asian face.

"Sorry, it was supposed to be a white, slick-haired handsome guy saving you. But he's busy fueling the car, so I had to take over," Aiden grinned.

Claire didn't understand what he said, but she didn't refuse his kindness. She grabbed his hand and stood up.

Once standing, Claire got a good look at the man's face. It looked nothing like the Asian faces she saw at university.

'Pretty handsome,' a thought suddenly popped into her head.

Then she shook her head and chased the thought away. "Can you tell me what's going on here?" she asked him.

Aiden glanced at the ponytail girl but didn't answer. He pointed outside, signaling her to come out first.

Following him out, Claire saw a young white guy with slick hair refueling a police car.

That young guy was the slick-haired handsome man, Leon.

They had run into him when arriving at the gas station. At the time, he was being attacked by several zombies.

Seeing Aiden and Claire come out, Leon exclaimed, "No wonder you were so eager when you heard movement, it was to welcome a beautiful lady!"

"Thanks for the compliment." Claire politely nodded to Leon.

Then she asked the doubt in her heart, "But when I came, it seemed like I didn't see you guys?"

"That's because we ran into a little trouble, so we had to leave here first." Leon stopped what he was doing. He had already finished refueling the car.

Putting the fuel injector back in place, he continued, "After dealing with that group of trouble, we came back. After all, we needed to get a car, and then he found your vehicle."

As he spoke, he pointed to Claire's motorcycle parked outside, "He thought you needed help. Now it seems like he was right. I'm suddenly a bit jealous of him."

"That's only because you were too slow." Aiden glanced at him and said.

Leon could only shrug his shoulders, silently expressing his contempt for him.
