Chapter 21 - "The Collapse of NovaCore"

> [Location: NovaCore – Control Nexus] [Time: 16:30 PM] [System Log: Tier IV – Temporal Layer Instability Detected]

The battle was over, but the cost was high. Arin stood amid the wreckage, his body exhausted, bloodied from the fight. Cassandra Prime, the seemingly indestructible prototype, had fallen—but the damage was done. The Reclaimers were not just after the Void Engine anymore. They were after NovaCore itself.

Elira crouched beside him, her Hybrid Core flickering erratically as she struggled to stabilize herself.

"We've bought ourselves some time," she whispered, her voice strained.

"But they'll be back. And they'll come harder."

Arin nodded grimly. The finality of their victory was nothing more than a temporary reprieve. NovaCore was still teetering on the edge of total collapse, and the Reclaimers' attack had left irreversible cracks in its system.

The control nexus was now a shattered shadow of its former self. The once mighty security system had been severed, leaving NovaCore's most sensitive systems vulnerable.

---

Rhea's voice echoed in Arin's earpiece.

"Arin, we're initiating the Last Stand Protocol. The Reclaimers are pushing through the last line of defense. If we don't act now, NovaCore will collapse. We need to find the Core Relay and trigger the emergency shutdown. It's the only way we can prevent a full-scale collapse."

Arin's eyes flickered to Elira. She had already risen, her expression hardened with resolve. There was no turning back now.

"Let's go," Arin said, his voice low, determined.

They raced toward the Core Relay, the corridor stretching before them like a narrow tunnel toward salvation. But the deeper they went, the more the system itself seemed to resist them.

> [Warning: Unauthorized Access Detected] [Reclaimer Countermeasures Activating…]

Arin's pulse quickened as the walls around them began to shift, the architecture twisting in unnatural ways. The system had begun fighting back.

"The system is adapting," Arin muttered under his breath.

"The more we push forward, the more it fights us."

Elira's hand glowed with a deep violet energy as she hacked into a nearby terminal, attempting to override the internal security.

"I'll handle the system," she said, her voice steady. "You focus on the Reclaimers."

---

Suddenly, the floor beneath them cracked open, and Reclaimer soldiers poured in from all directions.

[Skills: Adaptive Combat, Reality Manipulation]

Arin didn't wait for them to close in. He raised his blade, the edge sparking with energy, and charged.

The Reclaimers moved as one—effortlessly coordinating their strikes. Their weapons glowed with intense energy, each one capable of tearing through solid steel.

Arin ducked under a bladed strike, retaliating with a pulse-enhanced lunge that sent one of the soldiers crashing into the wall.

Elira's figure flashed beside him, her Hybrid Core ablaze. She unleashed a devastating pulse wave that sent several of the Reclaimers flying. But they weren't ordinary soldiers. Their bodies morphed, their armor adjusting to every strike. They were adapting to every move.

"Arin, this isn't working!" Elira shouted, her voice tinged with frustration. "They're too adaptable! We need to find a way to disable their systems."

Arin grimaced as he swung his blade at another soldier, only to have the strike absorbed by their armor. "We need to get to the Core Relay. Fast."

He activated Core Sync, channeling the energy of the Forbidden Core directly into his blade. The air crackled as he slashed, the blade cutting through their adaptive armor like it was paper.

But as the last Reclaimer fell, a low, mechanical hum filled the air.

---

"Reclaimer Commander – Cassandra Prime's Backup Unit – Incoming…" The voice echoed ominously.

Arin's heart skipped a beat.

"Backup Unit?"

The ground trembled as a massive figure dropped from the ceiling, landing with a deafening crash. The Reclaimer Commander was far larger than any soldier they had faced so far. Its armor was a seamless blend of metallic and organic components, and its presence radiated pure power.

> [Enemy Class: Reclaimer Commander – Class S++]

[Known Skills: Temporal Reversal, Reality Manipulation, Core Reconstruction]

The Commander's eyes gleamed as it towered over them, its body emanating a field of warping energy.

"You are too late, Arin Verma," the Commander's voice boomed. "NovaCore's end has already begun. The Void Engine will be reclaimed."

---

Arin's pulse raced, but he didn't hesitate. "We're not done yet."

He pushed forward, using Xyro's Pulse Drive Barrage to assault the Commander with a barrage of energy-infused strikes. But the Commander absorbed every strike, its armor glowing as it manipulated the very fabric of reality around it.

Elira joined in, unleashing a Reality Rip attack that momentarily destabilized the Commander's form. It staggered, but only for a moment.

"We need to disable its core!" Elira shouted, her voice strained. "If we don't, it'll keep regenerating!"

---

With their backs against the wall, Arin knew they were out of options. The Core Relay was still their only chance.

"Elira, cover me," Arin ordered, his voice grim. "I'll make a run for it."
