Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Shooting Stars

"Perhaps, it is because I haven't rested properly," Rose dismissed like it was normal, and this further made Kyle worried.

Kyle parted his lips, but he decided against it. He knew how stubborn she could be.

"If I can perfect the spell before their ceremony, I'd attack, but it would be a warning attack," Rose smiled, still rubbing the fur of the cat.

"I believe you would be successful in the attack with or without the spell, why don't you attack during that period?" Kyle questioned. He still didn't understand why she was persistent in perfecting the spell.

Rose chuckled at his lack of awareness.

"I would be fighting a losing battle if I don't perfect the spell before attacking, Marissa doesn't know this, but I am aware she has what it takes to kill me, it would only take removing her blindfold, and she won't hesitate to do so," Rose explained to him.

Kyle had momentarily forgotten about Marissa's curse which could end up turning into a blessing.

"I understand, it's best you perfect the spell then," Kyle gave in.

"I want to show you something, or rather, a place I had discovered, do you wish to follow me?" Kyle decided to take her out, so she could have a change of environment and atmosphere.

Rose looked at Kyle who had a genuine expression on his face, and she agreed. She had to admit that she felt more comfortable with him by her side.

_______________

"Where are we going Kyle? We have been walking for the past twenty minutes, and yet, we haven't arrived," Rose complained, and she stopped walking instantly.

She was exhausted by the trip. Kyle, on the other hand, chuckled at her childishness. He could not remember when last Rose showed such a side to him.

"Relax, we are almost there, this is the reason you need to step out sometimes, you are getting grumpy, and it isn't good for you," Kyle chastised, and she glared at him. A rare moment of playfulness coming forth.

"Shall we continue?" Rose asked with pouted lips, and Kyle nodded in response.

After a few minutes, they finally arrived at a hill. Rose was confused, immediately turning to look at Kyle who smiled mysteriously.

She scoffed while demanding, "you brought me to the hill, why?"

"This isn't just a normal hill, in a few minutes, you would witness something breathtaking, and I am sure you would love it," Kyle confidently responded.

"I have not liked a lot of things, so what makes you sure that I would love what you are about to show me?" Rose asked with folded arms, while a look of skepticism appeared on her face.

Kyle only gave a vague smile, and didn't respond to her queries. This made Rose curious while pondering on what he aimed to show her.

After a few seconds of silence, Kyle exclaimed, "there it is, take a good look at it."

Rose turned to look at where he was pointing at, and her mouth dropped in awe. She looked up to the sky, her big eyes blinking with astonishment.

"Shooting stars," Rose whispered, and for the first time, a genuine smile appeared on her face.

"I used to watch these when I was little, but I haven't had the chance to watch them ever since that night," Rose commented, her eyes glazing over.

"Thank you for this," Rose's vulnerable look only lasted a few seconds, before returning to normal.

Kyle smiled seeing her look, mentally patting himself for doing a good job.

It only lasted for a few seconds, but that few seconds brought joy to Rose.

"How did you know I liked shooting stars?" Rose turned to Kyle, beginning to interrogate him.

"Let's say, I studied you, and I was able to know your likes and dislikes, I discovered this place by accident, and I accidentally found out you like shooting stars, so I decided to bring you here," he explained, while awkwardly scratching his hair.

Rose felt touched. This was the first time someone paid close attention to her likes and dislikes. She was speechless by Kyle's actions.

"Thank you very much, I'm grateful for your effort in putting a smile on my face," Rose thanked him, and before he could respond, she hugged him.

Kyle was baffled. A lot of things happened today, but never would he have thought that Rose would hug him.

"You are welcome," he returned the hug while patting her back.

A few days later, it was finally time for the mating ceremony.

Gray and Bryce were currently in Gray's room, while Bryce's room was left for Marissa to use to get ready.

"Brother, you look so handsome, I bet my sister-in-law would be unable to take her eyes off you, after all, you would be the most handsome male present," Gray praised Bryce who was putting on the traditional mating attire.

There was a proud smile on Bryce's lips. He had waited for this moment, and dreamt about it even. Now, he was finally fulfilling his wish, he was excited.

"Maybe after yours, I could get to mark my mate," Gray stated with a dreamy smile.

Bryce looked at his brother over his shoulders, and he shook his head at his childishness.

"Of course," Bryce replied with a smile.

"That means we would officially get to see what sister-in-law's wolf looks like today, I can't wait," Gray muttered excitedly.

His words made Bryce realize that he had never really seen Marissa's wolf, and he wondered what she looked like.

'You do not need to worry about that, allow me to worry about it,' Drex spoke up, breaking Bryce's train of thoughts.

He was also excited. And why wouldn't he? He would finally get to mark his mate, and also mate with her, he was beyond excited.

'We should both be worried, I wonder when I left the matter of worrying to you,' Bryce teased him.

'I won't argue with you because it's OUR big day, I'll deal with you after today,' Drex threatened, and a loud laugh escaped from Bryce catching the attention of his brother.

"What were you thinking about brother? Would you like to tell me?" Gray asked with a teasing tone.

"It's none of your business, I have no idea why you are here, you aren't helping me at all," Bryce complained.

"Come on brother, I know you like having me here," Gray chuckled, finding it fun to annoy his brother.

"I'm done, let's head out," Bryce ordered, and they both left the room.

In the meantime, Marissa was already done.

"You are looking extremely beautiful, no makeup, just your natural beauty," Bethany fan-girled over Marissa who let out a chuckle.

Yes, Marissa didn't put on any makeup. Putting on makeup required her to remove her blindfold, and she was aware of what comes next if she does that.

So she decided against wearing makeup. Fortunately, she was a natural beauty, and no one could notice if she had makeup on or not.

"Lady Marissa, the ceremony is about to begin, you need to make your way to the venue now," the lady who was helping Marissa out announced.

"Let's go," Marissa ordered, and they made their way out.

With each step they took to the venue, Marissa's heartbeat increased. She would finally be marked and mated to Bryce. Her heart felt giddy at the thought, and the blush on her face was a testament of her excitement.
