"So are you guys gonna tell me what happened?" Gaius asked as he stared between Klaus and Serena.
She turned to look at Klaus to see if he would speak but seeing his clenched jaw and hard eyes, she settled back and answered.
"Alpha Gabriel tried to sleep with me?
"What!" Gaius's eyes bulged out.
"Rape" Klaus muttered
"He tried to rape you?".
"Yeah but don't worry, get didn't succeed, his son, Jacob was in time to save me"
"His son knew?"
"And his wife tried to seduce me just to keep me distracted" Klaus growled clenching the steering wheel tightly.
"You were almost seduced!"
"Yeah, but nothing happened..." she glanced at him, "...he told me"
"Apparently, he wanted her for himself and also aa his son's sigil bearer. He knows that she is my sigil bearer." Klaus added.
"But don't worry, like I said, everything is settled and Alpha Gabriel and his wife already apologized and offered to help us in the future if we ever needed anything." Serena assured him.
Gaius flopped back onto the back seat, his eyes wide and blank. He tried repeatedly to speak but the only sounds he could make were non verbal sputterings. Serena watched him worriedly.
"I'm afraid we have broken him"
"He is fine, he is only bummed because he missed out on everything"
She frowned at him with a skeptical look in her eyes, her hair was pulled in a ponytail this time.
"Really? I think he is just shocked"
Klaus was about to answer but then,
"Why the hell did nobody call me to witness all this!" Gaius suddenly yelled, his voice a higher pitch that usual as he stared at Klaus with an accusing stare. Serena purses her lips and nodded slowly as she turned to face the front.
"Yeah", she chuckled, "He only cares about missing out"
Gaius shot her a glare, "And why won't I care, something so juicy happened in a single night, under my nose and I knew nothing about it until I asked and we had gotten away from there. Does it mean that if I hadn't asked, you wouldn't tell me?"
"I would, but I would have waited a year to do that, by then you would have gotten a but if sense in you"
He gasped and clutched a hand to his chest, a pained look on his face, "Klaus you hurt me, I'm your one and only best friend, I deserve better than this"
"Well, next time make sure not to screw the host's daughter again, you might get into trouble for that and I might not be there to save you and even if I was, I might not be in the mood to save you, again."
Serena choked as she tried to hide the laugh bubbling in her chest, although Klaus words were rude and his tone condescending, the look of betrayal of Gaius's face was enough to name her laugh. Gaius saw this and suddenly smiled as he shrugged, he told her softly with a pat on the head.
"I'm just glad you are okay"
"Oh, thank you"
"We are here" Klaus announced shortly.
Serena craned her head as she tried to see, she squinted her eyes but still couldn't make out any buildings.
"Are you sure we are here, the only thing I can see is just the woods or is it forest?"
True, the place they were parked in was essentially a forest, there were countless tall trees, some bearing fruits and some bushes, also what seemed to puzzle her even more was the incredibly tall hedge that started from one end of an evergreen tree to a far distance stopping at another evergreen tree. Klaus and Gaius came down from the car, as she made to open the door, Gaius immediately opened it for her, she smiled politely at him, trying to hide the blush on her cheeks. This was the first time the door was opened for her by a man and a hot one at that. She made a note to check it off her list. Get a hot guy to open the door for you. Check.
"Yes it is a bit vague but the pack is just behind that thick hedge, that way we can be safe and hidden from praying human eyes." Gaius informed her.
Klaus had said nothing and just stood at a distance as he assessed the hedge, then he clicked his finger and moved towards a particularly spot. Gaius followed him and memorized to Serena to follow also. Her eyes bulged and she gasped as she saw Klaus immediately disappear into the hedge, with alarm in her eyes, she glanced at Gaius who smiled reassuringly at her as he held her hand. She closed her eyes tightly and walked slowly until she felt a strong wind on her face, then she opened her eyes.
"Wow"
"I know right, this is our pack." Gaius boasted with pride in his eyes. They followed silently after Klaus as he headed towards a dillapitated hut.
"This place is cool, it looks ancient and modern at the same time" she noted.
The pack area was huge, houses of various sizes and shaped decorated the streets, there were also tall street lights and she could tell the roads were well tarred. The fresh air was encouraged by the scatterings of huge, tall trees at every corner, she could also glimpse cute gardens that had beautiful colorful flowers. They quietly entered the hut which was very dirty and dusty. Suddenly, Klaus crouched down inside the hut, his finger to his lips as he handed a small bottle to each of them. Gaius drank it without hesitation so sge followed suit but immediately grimaced from the bitter taste.
"Its to keep you giving out your scent" Klaus explained to her.
"Why do we need to hide our scent?" she asked.
He looked from the tiny window and pointed at a group if men patrolling the streets.
"Those are the sentry guards, once they get our scent they will find us. I don't want that to happen now"
She nodded silently, "So when did we leave here?"
He glanced at his watch, "In ten minutes time, the moon clock will strike, they will be too busy howling at the moon to notice as we run."
"What is a moon clock"
"Well, it's just a clock that strikes every five hours when the moon is full, we shifters can't help but howl at the moon whenever we hear it" Gaius explained.
She gave them worried looks, her eyes were saying but you are also shifters. Klaus already knew what she was thinking, "We can control it now, years away from this place is enough to train you and improve your self control"
"Alright" she was relieved, "But where are we going"
Klaus pointed at Gaius, he smiled at her.
"My place...or I should call it my parents place and don't worry, everything will be fine. I haven't seen them in a long time" his eyes were glowing with excitement.
"Alright wait for it" Klaus said as he began counting with his fingers, he took her right hand in his big hand as he gave her a hard stare.
"Remember, whatever you do, do not let go of my hand, just run."
She nodded silently not betraying her emotions as she felt tingles in her hand. She was still staring at his hand on hers and the sudden feeling she was experiencing when a loud ding sound of a bell rang and the men all frozen as they raised their heads to the sky.
"Run" Klaus snarled.
