Chapter 9 - CH-9 THE GRANDMOTHER'S WISH

The encounter with Qin Feng's grandmother, Mei Qin, left a subtle shift in the atmosphere of Stellaris Tech, a ripple of unexpected warmth in the otherwise coolly efficient environment. For Lin Wei, the glimpse into Qin Feng's personal life, the genuine affection he displayed towards his Nai Nai, offered a fleetingly humanizing perspective on the often-enigmatic CEO. It was a stark contrast to the powerful, sometimes imperious figure she usually encountered.

Her phone rings the caller ID shows "Mr.cheng li" lin wei accept the call chen li's voice echoes from the phone.

"Lin Wei,meet me with the files i provide you," Cheng Li's voice sounded slightly strained. "I'm afraid there's been a minor complication with the site survey team for the Azure Spire project. We need someone with your structural expertise to head over there urgently. Mr. Zhang is tied up in meetings all morning."

The Azure Spire project was a new, ambitious undertaking – a gravity-defying residential tower with integrated aerial gardens. It was a significant opportunity, and Lin Wei's analytical skills were well-suited for the initial survey challenges. "Understood, Mr. Cheng. I can head there immediately."

"Excellent. I've already forwarded you the location coordinates and the initial survey data. The autonomous transport will be waiting for you at Level B3 in fifteen minutes."

With a quick confirmation, Lin Wei gathered her portable analysis tablet and her neural interface connectors with the files. The unexpected change in her schedule meant a temporary shift away from the familiar intricacies of the Skybloom project, but the challenge of the Azure Spire was undeniably appealing.

As she made her way to the designated transport bay, her mind drifted back to the previous encounter. Mei Qin's gentle demeanor and genuine warmth had been a pleasant surprise. The way Qin Feng had interacted with her, the unguarded affection in his voice – it was a side of him she hadn't imagined existed.

Meanwhile, on the executive floor, Mei Qin was still in Qin Feng's office, a cup of fragrant tea steaming gently in her hands. Qin Feng, having cleared his immediate schedule after her unexpected visit, sat opposite her, a rare moment of stillness in his typically relentless routine.

"Feng'er," Mei Qin began, her voice soft but carrying a familiar weight of concern, "you are doing so well. Your company is thriving, you are respected… but you are alone."

Qin Feng's brow furrowed slightly. He knew this conversation was inevitable. It was a familiar refrain in his Nai Nai's visits, a gentle nudge towards a future he wasn't yet ready to embrace. "Nai Nai, I am hardly alone. I have a demanding career, a dedicated team…"

Mei Qin waved a dismissive hand. "Work is not a life, my dear boy. It is a part of it. But where is the companionship? The warmth of a shared home? The joy of… family?" Her gaze softened, a hint of sadness in their depths. "My time grows shorter, Feng'er. My greatest wish before I… before I am no longer here… is to see you settled, to know that you will not face the future entirely on your own."

Qin Feng's expression softened. His Nai Nai was the only family he had left after the tragic loss of his parents many years ago. Her well-being was paramount to him, and her words carried a weight that he couldn't easily dismiss.

"Nai Nai," he said gently, reaching across the table to take her hand, his strong fingers enveloping her frail ones, "I know your wishes come from a place of love. But finding that kind of connection… it isn't something that can be rushed."

Mei Qin's eyes twinkled with a hint of her earlier mischievousness. "Perhaps not rushed, but certainly… encouraged. You have bright young women working for you. Someone… like that kind Lin Wei who helped me yesterday."

Qin Feng's gaze sharpened, a flicker of surprise in his eyes. "Lin Wei? Nai Nai, she is merely an employee."

"She has a kind heart, Feng'er, and a strong spirit. I saw it in her eyes. And she was so helpful to a old woman like me, without a moment's hesitation. Such qualities are rare." Mei Qin's gaze became more pointed. "You need someone with strength, someone who will not be easily overshadowed by your… intensity."

Qin Feng fell silent, a complex mix of emotions swirling within him. His interactions with Lin Wei had been anything but simple. There was a spark, an undeniable tension, but it was often laced with their competitive history and his own… complicated intentions. The idea of her as anything other than a capable architect, a persistent rival, was a novel and somewhat unsettling thought.

"Nai Nai," he said finally, a hint of a smile playing on his lips, "your matchmaking skills are… legendary. But perhaps you should allow me to navigate my own personal life."

Mei Qin patted his hand firmly. "Of course, my dear. But a little encouragement never hurt anyone. Keep your eyes open, Feng'er. Sometimes, what you are looking for is right in front of you, even if you don't realize it." Her gaze held his for a long moment, conveying a depth of unspoken affection and a heartfelt wish for his happiness.

As Lin Wei's autonomous transport sped through the elevated roadways towards the Azure Spire construction site, she found her thoughts returning to Qin Feng and his grandmother. The image of the powerful CEO displaying such genuine tenderness was a stark contrast to his usual guarded demeanor. It was a reminder that everyone, no matter how formidable, had their own vulnerabilities and connections. And for the first time, Lin Wei felt a flicker of something beyond professional respect or lingering rivalry towards Qin Feng – a nascent seed of curiosity about the man beneath the carefully constructed façade. The unexpected revelation of his landlord status, coupled with his grandmother's warm presence, had subtly shifted the landscape of their interactions, hinting at possibilities she hadn't previously considered. The future, it seemed, held more than just technological advancements and architectural challenges; it held the potential for unexpected personal connections as well.
