Part 1
Its been a year now so I've had the chance to explore every room in the house. This place is definitely the home of a well off family. I've also been able to look at the scenery outside of the window. The land seems to be a lot like New Zealand in the summer. Thick dark green grass covers the land with a forest that surrounds the back and sides of the house. The trunks of the trees seem a lot thicker than the ones in my old world. The leaves seem to have remained the same green color all year long. Which is nice because the view from upstairs is frankly just stunning. Anyways a large portion of my time has recently been spent on the book I was previously drawn to titled -Tome of spells and Incantations-
It appears to be an encyclopedia of sorts though I cant tell what for yet. Some important piece of the puzzle eludes my understanding for now, but what is it?
*Bang, Bang, Bang* "Rubyanna! Rubyanna come quick! Torren is gravely wounded!" shouts an unfamiliar voice jump scaring me out of my concentration.
I tried to rush over to the stranger shouting for my mother until she speeds past me skipping the stairs entirely by scaling over the guard rail. I stumble back to my feet and rush down the stairs to see mother emitting a green light from her hands over the massive gash across his chest. (Huh is father going to die? Is mom using magic to heal him? Will he survive?) As I make my way down the stairs to further investigate I'm intercepted by Elxie who quickly picks me up and buries my face into her chest as she runs to bring me into my room. She swiftly sets me down and tells me to "wait here" as she closes the door. I could hear her sprinting over to the front door to check on the situation. (I didn't know those two were so fast.)
Part 2
The next day I learn that father had been clearing the forest of monster when he stumbled upon a powerful large yellow scaled snake wandering into our area looking for a new nest to lay its eggs. He apparently stayed behind so the rest of the scouting party could escape but ended up being strong enough to slay it anyways. Well he only survived thanks to moms healing, which opened up a lot of opportunities for asking questions. First my father is something called Third ranked Sword master. He recently retired some time before I was born making him 19. My mother on the other hand is 17 and had recently joined his party as their healer before getting pregnant with me and also retiring. Haaaaah a shotgun wedding kind of situation? Its a super loving and stable household so I've got no real complaints.
Another year goes by and I'm finally able to start casting some of the spells inside this tome. Yesterday I was able to cast "Water Bullet" a beginner water spell three times before it became difficult to stand. So today I want to try out a new spell. I eagerly flip through the book as I look for spells to cast stumbling on the spell "Fire Bullet". Though a spell like that probably isn't an option. I have nowhere to safely practice that spell without causing some damage. I cant risk being caught casting spells. I have no idea how my family might react to their two year old casting attack magic. Its gotta be more low key. I keep sifting through the pages until I read the words "Stone Bullet" This could work. The likelihood its a problem to cast this should be low. I read the page and recite the spell
"I call upon the spirits of rock and stone,
Come bestow this lowly mortal with your dense might,
Grant me the power to break through any obstacle. Stone Bullet!"
(Much like "Water Bullet" This spell comes from the palm of my hands. So far it functions a lot like the water spell as well. Feel the surge of mana flow through me from my gut, Feel it course through my heart and into my hand. Build and store mana to lock in the size. Then force out a burst of mana to launch!) After following those steps a pointed stone ball launches out of the window into the sky with a small shockwave emitting from my hand. I watched as the stone travels almost 100 yards before it loses its power and simply dropped making the range three times as far as "Water Bullet". (Why is that? Is it the density? If I give "Water Bullet" more mana to force the spell to be as dense as "Stone Bullet" what would happen? Would the range increase? Does the size change?) I close my eyes and focus on the feeling of the casting process. An image forms in my mind of the swirling water ball.(If I poor mana into it to increase its density it ends up growing in size making it too large to fit through the window. I'll compress it. Another problem. The current inside the ball slows down greatly, I must concentrate more to force it to swirl more.) Once the ball in his mind was successfully formed it manifested itself in his hand without reciting the incantation. This catches him off guard forcing him to quickly try aiming the attack out of the window. The force from the now rapidly spinning water ball causes his arm to wobble as the spell launches into the wall completely blowing out half of the wall.
"Shit so much for the "safest" element to cast with..."
Heavy footsteps can be heard sprinting up the stairs as my father barges in with his torso still bandaged.
"Samu are you alright?! Is there another snake around?!" As my father leans his body out of the massive hole he scans the area soon followed by mother picking me up off of the ground.
"Are there still more out there?" My mom asks as she still clings to me
"No I don't see any tracks anywhere over here. There's no way it was another snake."
Elxie picks up the tome and looks at it for a moment before glancing at me. Based on the way she's looking at me id say she's suspicious. I'm not sure why she's looking at me this way. I'm only two years old, if anything you should be concerned not suspicious! Elxie walks over to my mom and hands her the tome still keeping her gaze on me.
"Young master had this open on the floor over there." She says in a emotionless tone.
Mother looked at the book for a moment and seemed to ponder something before looking back at me. "Were you reading the words in this book out loud Samu?"
I maintain her gaze and decide to tell the truth. Id have a hard time convincing myself that deceiving my parents, who have yet to do me any wrong, could ever be an OK thing to do.
"Yes. I've been practicing the spells for two days now." Before I could mentally prepare myself I was assaulted with an overwhelming amount of "Mother Smuthers".
"Torren did you hear that?! Did you hear that?! Our son is casting beginner spells already at two years old! Hes a genius! A Genius! You must send out a formal job request to hire a magical instructor for him!" I struggle to survive the onslaught of the "Mother Smuthers" taking breaths whenever I can manage them. My father didnt seen to like the idea.
"I cant deny that it would be a complete waste of talent not to hire a magic instructor. However as promised he's still going to study the sword."
"Samu's extremely gifted! All of his time should be going into his growth as a mage!" My mother must be super serious to defy father so aggressively like this. Or maybe she's always been like this?
"I thought we agreed that if it was a boy he'd be trained by me to become a swordsman! I understand that he's gifted so he certainly needs to learn magic, but that doesn't mean he cant learn both! It'll come in handy for later down the line!" Yikes now fathers getting into it. I better speak up.
"I want to learn both magic and the sword." I state getting both of their attention ending the dispute entirely. Mother sets me down and embraces father ending the conflict. I cant help but laugh as I watch my parents cling to each other. As I look around for Elxie I see here still standing there with her gazed locked onto me with the same expression she had before.
"Why are you glaring at me?" I prefer the direct approach.
"My apologies young master. I was simply thinking to myself about how much potential you have." She says in the same respectful monotone voice she always gives me. Whatever, there's no point in pressing her further on it.
