Kai could feel the unpleasant air since they back from the Dungeon. They back home using teleportation and it only took a few minutes to reach the front door. Noah immediately entered the house and went to his own room without saying a word.
Kai who was about to ask what he wanted to eat for dinner became silent seeing him, when it is time for dinner and Kai called Noah, the man came out with a grumpy face, yes, he was pouting. His face looked so weird and Kai didn't understand why the man was suddenly in a bad mood.
Now they were sitting together in front of the television, watching Noah's favorite soap opera while drinking the hot coffee Kai had made after they eating the dinner.
Kai took out his phone, checking some of the work he had to complete tomorrow morning including his pending curiosity to find out about Noah Miles. He asked Knox if he could access some guild websites on his behalf, but he asked him not to do so.
He tried to find an excuse so that Knox could not guess what he was doing and without having to explain to Knox what he was looking for.
"Hey.." Noah suddenly made a sound.
Kai turned around, the man was still staring at the television with the coffee cup he was holding with both hands. He sat with his legs crossed on the sofa, the shorts he was wearing went up to his knees, showing how pale his legs were.
He let his long silvery hair down.
"Why?" Kai asked, the silence that followed after Noah called his name leaving him confused.
Noah looked hesitant in his seat, Kai looked at him with many questions and curiosity.
Does he know that I'm investigating him?
"Hey, don't just call me and then hang on to me."
"Earlier…"
"Huh?"
"Who was that woman earlier? Do you know her? Your girlfriend? Your ex-girlfriend?"
Kai frowned. Why did he suddenly want to know about Dominic? What was really going on inside this man's head?
Noah turned to Kai, looking deeply at the man. Those silvery-white eyes that seemed to have no end is very unfamiliar to Kai. It's impossible for humans to have eyeballs like that, right?
"Dominic?"
Noah flinched at the name.
"You didn't know Dominic?"
Noah's eyebrows knitted together when he heard the question come out of Kai's mouth, he put down his coffee cup and looked angrily at Kai, "Do I have to know who she is?!"
Kai nodded his head.
"Of course."
Noah was silent, his tiny lips pressed tightly together, his hands clenched in annoyance.
"You've been working with her for over a year, she's a Guide with an AA+ rank. She's the wife of your guildmate Esper, Max Edmund."
"Who?" Noah blinked his eyes.
Kai frowned, looking strangely at Noah, "Hey don't tell me you don't know Max Edmund?"
"No, that's not it, I know who Max Edmund is. We've worked a few times, he's an Esper with a rank of AAA+. But, is he married?"
Kai was silent for a while then burst out laughing, Noah who heard it became annoyed himself. His face turned red with embarrassment. Damn it!
Kai explained that Dominic was his guildmate, they both awakened in the same year and month, they went through training together. Last year Dominic married an Esper from the FERN guild named Max Edmund.
"Max is an Esper who is compatible with her, because of their compatibility, the two of them dated and decided to get married." Kai stopped laughing after explaining everything to Noah who was now hugging a pillow while pouting. "I never dated her, we got close because we both went through similar things. Our conversations hit it off and she's like my best friend."
"Then, why did you give her accessories? Is give all of it feel so easy for you?"
"Yes, of course." Kai smiled widely while Noah rolled his eyes at the answer. His answer sounded like a playboy.
"Dominic is the only female guide with the highest rank at the moment, her matches with other Esper are high on average but she only chose to be Max Edmund's personal guide and that is very disadvantageous to the guild. I made accessories like the one you're wearing, to make it easier for those Esper who haven't found their guide matches or have low rank guides to be helped in Dungeon. The accessories Dom was wearing, she could lend or give to any Esper who needed them. The earrings she's wearing are accessories that I made for trial and error." Kai explained as he picked up the empty cups and walked towards the kitchen, he put both cups into the sink and washed them.
"Wouldn't it be painful if her husband saw his wife having to hold hands with another man?" He said with a big smile.
If he could dig the ground and making a tunnel to hide in, Noah wanted to do it now. After he came out of the Dungeon and saw the interaction between Kai and Dominic he somehow felt uncomfortable.
He didn't like it.
Since back from work, all his head was filled with curiosity about their relationship. Are they dating? Were they ex-lovers and so on. However, after hearing Kai's explanation he felt embarrassed himself.
What is he doing? Why does he feel like that? Disgusting.
"don't fall in love with your personal guide again."
He suddenly remembered Ryan's words. He gripped the pillow he had been hugging.
Kai approached him and took his hand, the man sat next to him and looked busy with his phone without saying anything. As usual. Noah felt much calmer because of the guidance provided by Kai now.
"You look tense since you got back from the Dungeon, is it really that hard in there?" Kai asked, his other hand busy typing something on the phone screen and his eyes glued there.
"No, it's not because of that."
"That's not it?"
"Yes, it's not because of that."
Kai's fingers trailed off, then he turned to Noah.
"Then, is it because you're curious about Dominic? Are you interested in her?!" Kai's eyeballs widened when he asked, he covered his mouth with the phone he was holding. "Wow, she's your type huh? Too bad she already has a husband..."
Noah closed his eyes and hit Kai on the head with a pillow, the man laughed at Noah's anger.
Kai, looking like a typical twenty-six year old boy. Noah was told by Luka that when the man was awakened two years ago, he was an ordinary student who was relatively diligent and smart. One year after awakening, the guild was having trouble because the level of guides awakened with Esper was much different. Most guides with the highest rank already had their own Esper.
Transferring energy requires physical contact, which is why guides with personal Esper are usually very difficult to "lend" their energy without the consent of their respective Esper, not to mention that their employment contracts do not allow it too.
Thus, Kai developed technology with accessories. The man was eccentric from the start, and he used that to help the guides and the Esper. He had the full support of all the guilds as well as a patent for his idea.
He looks like a trouble-making brat, but he is a shy person. His face, ears and the back of his neck would turn red if he felt shy. But now the man was casually holding Noah's hand, even when they were outside, the man thoughtlessly took Noah's hand. Kai didn't care even though some people still saw a guide and an esper of the same gender holding hands in the middle of the street as strange and weird.
"Noah.." Kai called out to him, bringing Noah back to his senses. "Were you born with those eyes?"
Noah blinked, he looked down, half his hair covering his face now.
"Ah- I know, it looks scary doesn't it? Weird doesn't it?" Noah asked awkwardly. He had even forgotten about his eyes, ever since they met, Kai had never mentioned them. And it had been so long since he hadn't met people who was surprised at how he looked.
Kai reaching out closer to Noah's hair, he tucked Noah's hair into the man's ear so that his side view profile was now clearly visible.
"No, it looks really pretty. You look like a fairy." The man said it lightly, his eyes looking directly at Noah with a wide smile showing his teeth.
Noah could feel his face so hot, he turned to Kai and the man looked surprised at his flushed face. Kai's hands were stuck in the air while Noah immediately letting go Kai's hand, he went to the room and closed the door tightly.
And Kai was still frozen in place, his face reddening as Noah gave him an expression he hadn't expected at all. "What is that?" He mumbled.
