Chapter 14 - Scandal

The next morning, Janice reported to the TV station as usual. As soon as she sat down, Lucy stretched out her head.

"Janice, what are you going to do? You still lack so many news articles."

As soon as the appraisal was brought up, Janice's mind went blank and she panicked.

Although there were many popular topics in today's society, there were very few newsworthy headline articles. News was limited, and there were so many reporters, it was even more difficult to grab good pieces.

As Janice was worrying, an unidentified phone call came in.

"I'll take a call first."

After excusing herself from Lucy, she got up and walked out of the door.

"I'm Janice Gladwell. May I know who you are?"

A man's voice came from the other end of the phone. "I want to give an anonymous tip-off."

Upon hearing this, Janice immediately perked up and quickly wrote down the address.

In the end, she thanked him repeatedly before hanging up the phone. She returned to her seat with a smile on her face.

Lucy asked in confusion, "Why are you so happy?"

Janice said with a smile, "Just now, I received an anonymous phone call. The caller mentioned some clues to a piece of news. I have to go out."

Lucy warned her, "You have to be careful. There are many scammers now."

Janice picked up her things and said, "Don't worry, I will be careful."

As she spoke, she carried her things and left.

Soon, she arrived at the address of the tip-off, Tomaville International Hotel.

Janice held the camera and paused at the door. She looked up at the words and walked in.

In order not to expose her identity as a reporter, she deliberately hid the camera in her backpack.

However, when she entered, she found that there was no one to stop her. Could it be that the parties involved weren't scared of being exposed?

Thinking of this, Janice followed the room number provided by the caller and found it.

Sure enough, as soon as she came out of the elevator, she saw that it was crowded with onlookers.

"You bitch, how dare you to seduce my husband! I'll tear you apart."

"Help, help!"

As soon as Janice walked over, she heard shouting.

She quickly took out her camera and snapped photos.

This kind of social news where the wife caught a mistress was quite popular, not to mention that the main character was well-known.

Kent Roger, a well- known cultural figure in Tomaville. On the surface, he seemed decent, but on the other hand, he was cheating behind his wife's back. His mistress was so young she could have passed off as his daughter.

Just the right kind of tabloid story fodder she needed.

Janice quickly finished taking photos of the scene. In order not to be discovered, she quickly put away her camera and turned to leave.

"Stop."

Janice suddenly had a bad feeling.

Sure enough, she heard someone behind her asking, "Who are you? What photos did you take just now?"

Janice instantly felt that things were not going well, so she ran.

"Stop!"

Someone immediately chased after her.

She was about to shake off the man behind, but she didn't expect several people to appear in front of her.

The man in the lead looked like he was in his twenties. He was imposing and dignified, followed by a group of bodyguards. He seemed to be someone powerful.

Seeing that there were people, Janice quickly stopped running and pretended to be strolling.

But as they passed by each other, the man in the lead suddenly stopped and looked in her direction.

"Wait."

Janice was stunned and thought in a panic, "He can tell that I am a reporter? Oh no, what should I do? With so many men, I've no chance of getting out of here scot-free!"

...

Suddenly, a voice came from the crowd behind her.

"Mr. Pattinson, ask your men to stop that woman. She's a reporter."

Janice thought to himself, "This is the end. How can I escape from so many people?"

Daniel had thought Janice looked familiar, but when he heard Kent Roger say that she was a reporter, he realized that she was Christopher's girl.

He said to Kent, "Mr. Roger, do you have any evidence to prove that she is a reporter?

Kent stopped there, panting. He pointed at Janice and said, "She just took photos of me. I saw her with my own eyes."

Daniel's gaze swept over Janice and then he smiled. "Is that the case? So whoever takes photos is a reporter then?"

Kent had assumed that Daniel would protect him, so he was surprised he would say that. "You... Daniel Pattinson, I'm a guest of your hotel. You don't protect my privacy, but you protect a reporter. What is the meaning of this?"

"Daniel Pattinson?"

Janice felt that the name sounded familiar as if she had heard it somewhere.

Daniel sneered and said, "Mr. Roger, my hotel is indeed responsible for protecting the privacy of guests, but do you still have privacy now?"

Daniel's eyes fell on the rowdy crowd not far away.

Kent deflated instantly and could only leave dejectedly.

Janice heaved a sigh of relief when she saw Kent leaving. However, she thought of something and stepped forward. "Thank you for your help, Mr. Pattinson."

Only then did Daniel's gaze fall on her. "Miss Gladwell, you're too polite."

Upon hearing her name, Janice was stunned. How could he know her surname?

Daniel however, had no intention of staying any longer. He was about to leave.

Janice suddenly thought of something else. She turned around and stopped him.

"Please wait a moment."

Daniel stopped and turned around. "Miss Gladwell, is there anything else?"

Janice then stepped forward.

"Your name is Daniel Pattinson?"

Daniel nodded.

"What's wrong? Is there a problem?"

Janice shook her head, and asked.

"Did you invest in the Gladwell Group some time ago?"

Daniel said, "I did indeed."

Janice was so surprised that she was at a loss for what to say.

She finally found Daniel Pattinson. After all, he saved the Gladwell family.

Thinking of this, Janice felt grateful. "I'm so grateful to you. Thank you for saving the Gladwell business."

Janice didn't know what to say.

Daniel couldn't take it anymore. After all, this was all due to Christopher. He couldn't claim credit for it.

"Miss Gladwell, you're too polite. This is all..."

"This is?" Janice was confused.

Before Daniel could finish his words, he remembered Christopher had asked him to keep it a secret, so he quickly changed his words. "This is what I should do."

Janice said, "Well, how about I treat you to dinner tonight? Thank you for your help."

Daniel was a little surprised.

"This..."

"Please promise me, Mr. Pattinson. Can you give me your contact number? I'll send you the address after I book the restaurant."

Daniel did not know how to reject Janice's enthusiastic invitation.

"How about this? Miss Gladwell, you don't have to book a place. How about our hotel restaurant?"

Janice was stunned for a moment. She thought to herself, "This is a seven-star hotel."

How much would the meal cost?

She was in over her head.

...

However, when she thought of his help to the Gladwell family, Janice decided to go all out. She gritted her teeth and agreed.

"See you tonight then."

"See you later!"

As he watched Janice leave, a thin layer of sweat appeared on Daniel's forehead. He had almost given himself away. However, he was a little curious as to what kind of relationship she had with Christopher. To think that the dignified Christopher Bateman would put in so much effort for her sake.

Tonight seemed to be a good opportunity to find out more.

Thinking of this, Daniel was even looking forward to it.

As soon as Janice left the hotel, she quickly went to check her bank balance. Fortunately, it was still a four-digit figure. It should be enough for her to pay for the meal. If it was not enough, she could break out her credit card.

At worst, she would have to tighten the budget next month.

Thinking of this, she relaxed.

However, she suddenly remembered something. She didn't seem to have introduced herself, but how did Mr. Pattinson know her surname was Gladwell?

Could it be that he knew her?

Janice could not help but feel a little confused. However, since they were going to have dinner together tonight, she would ask when the time came.

So Janice stopped dwelling on it. Instead, she thought of another problem.

"I'm a married woman and I'm having dinner with another man at a hotel at night. And drinks are almost definitely a must. I can't drink, then what?"

So she took out her phone and called Christopher.

In the office, Christopher was concentrating on his work when his phone suddenly rang. He picked it up.

"Christopher, can you hold your liquor?", Janice asked out of the blue. Christopher was stunned for a moment. "What do you mean?" Janice said, "It's exactly what I said." Christopher said, "Then I guess so."

Hearing that, Janice was relieved. "That's good. I invited a friend to dinner tonight. Come with me. I can't really drink."

Christopher didn't ask much and only replied with a "yes".

Only then did Janice hang up the phone in peace and drove back to the TV station.

She walked to her seat while humming a song. Lucy looked over.

"You're in such a good mood. It seems that the tip-off was true."

Janice nodded. "Not only was it true, but it's also front-pagefront-paged worthy."

Lucy's face was full of envy. "Damn, you were lucky to get such a valuable anonymous call. Why can't I get something like that? By the way, Janice, where did you list your number? Can you help me?"

After being asked by Lucy, Janice realized something.

She usually left another number on both the online platform and her business card.

But the anonymous phone call today was on her personal mobile phone.

Had she listed the wrong number by mistake?

Seeing that she had not spoken, Lucy was a little unhappy.

"Forget it if you don't want to help me."

Janice came to her senses. "Don't get me wrong. I just suspect that I listed the wrong number. I'll tell you after I confirm it."

"All right then."

Lucy's expression softened.

Janice quickly checked all her listed information and found that there was nothing wrong.

Strange, how did her personal number get leaked?

Janice couldn't figure it out, so she let it go. She didn't care, as long as she could get the news.

Thinking of this, she shared her method with Lucy and began to write up the article.

By the time she was done with her work, it was already six o'clock in the evening.

She remembered her appointment with Daniel Pattinson so she quickly packed up her things and left.

She was running tight on time, so she couldn't wait for Christopher to pick her up and took a taxi to the hotel. On the way, she sent the hotel address to him.

Christopher looked at the address Janice sent. He was a little confused. Wasn't this the hotel that he and Daniel co-owned?
