Kayden glared at Leo.
"Go out now, otherwise, your mom will get anxious about you." Leo kept the smile on his face, indicating his extremely light mood.
On the other hand, Kayden snorted softly and received the dish from Leo. Just when he was about to leave, Leo spoke to him again. "Son, be my good assistant. Your sister also wants me to be with your mommy."
His daughter might be a glutton who seemed to be attracted by delicious food. But Leo understood that she was a cheeky one who could be cold to any man she hated.
Kayden paused in his footsteps. "Got it."
This old man was really long- winded. But for the sake of his acceptable performance, Kayden reluctantly accepted his request.
Back at the dining table, Kayden and Kayla were fighting to place food in Zoey's bowl.
"Mommy, have this chicken leg. It smells good," said Kayla sweetly.
"Mommy, try this piece of ribs," Kayden said with a flat face, but his eyes were twinkling with a glimmer of hope just like a little puppy who could not wait to please his owner.
"Thank you, sweeties." Zoey tried both the chicken leg and the ribs. "They are really delicious."
She was not praising Leo for being a good cook. The food only tasted delicious because her precious babies placed it in her bowl.
Leo picked up vegetables with his chopsticks and put them in Zoey's bowl. "Have more if they are nice. You're too skinny."
Zoey's heart fluttered as she stared at the delectable dishes on the table and pursed her lips.
"Kayla, Kayden, don't stop. Keep eating."Leo placed more food in the bowls of the twins. "With me around, just name me the dishes you would like to eat. I'll cook them for you."
Just because he had been always above all people and treated people coldly, did not mean he had no idea how to please people.
After all, he handled projects that were worth millions, and he was good at manipulating people. If he decided to win someone over, no one could escape from it.
But he wanted to be nice to Zoey and their kids from the bottom of his heart.
In the past few years, his absence had caused them to suffer a lot. He wanted to make up for the loss by providing them the best.
"Thank you, Daddy."
Kayla grinned with a sweet-looking smile as her eyebrows arched like a bright and translucent crescent moon.
As though something just hit on the cold and solid heart, Leo could feel his heart melting away.
"Daddy, take some of this as well." Kayla placed a piece of ribs into Leo's bowl and said, "Here's a reward for you."
"Thank you." Leo swallowed, and his voice was hoarse. There was a complicated gleam surging within his eyes.
This was his daughter, the continuation of his own blood.
Before he met Zoey, he could not imagine having children or the patience to get along with them.
While having dinner, the house was filled with Kayla's bright and cheerful voice.
Seeing her daughter was in good spirits, and her son showing no signs of rejection, Zoey had put down much of her guard against Leo compared to before.
Perhaps she could have a word with him.
After finishing up their meal, Kayla was riding on Leo's back. As soon as she had enough of the fun, she pulled Kayden over and asked him to ride on his back as well.
"Brother, try it too."
"No, I..."
"Son, sit tight."
Leo was acting as a horse as he neighed loudly from time to time.
Kayden, who had been a mature kid, was giggling and chuckling as he finally was acting like a kid his own age.
Upon seeing such a heart-warming scene, Zoey's eyes were getting red.
...
After putting the twins to sleep, Zoey went to the balcony with Leo.
She handed him a glass of red wine and said, "Leo, thank you. It has been a long time since they were so happy."
During her six years abroad, she was busy working and accumulating contacts. Most of the time, she neglected the growth of her children so much that she had no idea they were called illegal children behind their backs.
When she thought of this heart-breaking experience, Zoey felt like her heart was ripped out of her chest. The pain was unbearable.
"They are my kids." Leo peered at Zoey with a pair of soulful eyes. He continued, "You don't have to thank me."
For a moment, Zoey parted her lips and was taken aback by surprise.
Her heart always went soft whenever someone talked about her children.
Leo suddenly pressed her to the railings at the balcony and looked down at her with his gleaming dark eyes, which seemed to be able to see through people.
"Zoey, do you think we can get back together?" He lowered his voice, which sounded deep and sexy.
Zoey's eyes gleamed and swallowed her saliva. She could feel her mouth getting dry.
"Don't be afraid, I'll give you time to think about it."
Leo suddenly let go of her and tidied up the creases on his shirt. With perfect composure, he said, "Since we have a pair of precious babies, I'm not afraid that you will run away from me."
No matter what, he believed Zoey could not escape from him once he won the twins over.
"Despicable man," Zoey muttered as she cast him a death stare.
But she was not against such feelings from the bottom of her heart.
"So, what if I used some underhanded methods if it means I can win a beauty?" Leo remarked without any shame. "I just want my wife and children to be happy."
After almost thirty years of his life, he finally found the woman he loved and the children he could raise. He had to act fast. Why would he wait for some other men to take over his position?
"Well, the ruthless and merciless Leo Yancey turned out to be a shameless scoundrel."
The behavior of Leo had totally changed her perception of him.
"I hope you like it," he replied.
Leo drew the corner of his lip as he leaned over and pecked on her lips at a lightning speed. "I have to go now. Remember to have a sweet dream of me, yeah?"
Then he left at a relaxed pace.
Zoey held her face in her palms as she watched him leave. After he walked out of the door, she touched her lips without knowing.
The spot where Leo kissed felt warm.
...
The next day, Zoey came to the hospital.
"Dr. Fuller, the pregnant lady in 602 asked to see you in person," said a nurse who came up to her.
"Ward 602? The superior single room where Stella Lynch was awarded?" She thought to herself.
"Got it. I'll be there soon." Zoey put on her white gown as she answered the nurse.
"Dr. Fuller, I think you better hurry up. Miss Lynch seemed to have a bad temper."
The nurse knit her eyebrows while trying to find the right words.
"It's more than a bad temper. She's probably a T. rex." Zoey thought.
She nodded to the nurse and headed straight to 602. Just when she raised her hand to knock on the door, she could hear Stella bawling in rage.
"Where's Zoey? Where's that slut who seduced my husband? She's afraid to see me now, huh?"
"Miss Lynch, calm down now, or your wound will open again..."
" Nonsense, are you trying to curse me?"
Zoey's eyes were dimmed as she opened the door directly.
"Miss Lynch, you sound energetic. I guess your C-section wound doesn't hurt anymore," said Zoey with coldness.
The caretakers who got scolded badly were grateful to see Zoey.
"Dr. Fuller, you're here!"
"Yes, thanks for helping out."
Zoey took out some sweets from her pocket and handed them to the two caretakers.
"Take some sweets when you're feeling down. You'll feel better later on."
"Thank you, Dr. Fuller," The two caretakers said as they took the sweets from her.
Upon seeing that the two caretakers engaged by her were bribed by a handful of sweets, Stella was so pissed off that her face was twisted.
She took a can of milk powder from a small table and wanted to throw it at the two of them. But before she could do it, her movement triggered the pain at her wound, which caused her to let out a cry in agony.
"This..." The two caretakers were at a loss.
"Go out first, I'll be here."
Zoey decided to take care of this unexpected situation. "It's alright, I can handle it."
Besides, Stella was angry at her. That was why she took her anger out on other innocent people.
"In that case, we'll get going first. Call us if you need anything, Dr. Fuller." The two caretakers left hurriedly after one of them said this.
They would rather not take care of this woman, whose temper was so bad, even though it was good money. After all, no average person could stand her fiery tantrums.
