Chapter 8 - Chapter 8- game

Evelyn was so calm that she even found it unbelievable!

She took his phone, opened the camera function, and aimed it at the couple in front, capturing every moment of their affectionate interaction, not missing a single detail. She even filmed the expression on Chloe's face as she leaned into Joseph's arms, and the way Joseph kissed Chloe with emotion—everything was captured clearly!

It was quite a long segment, but unfortunately, if only they had given her something more substantial, she would have been even more pleased.

If we don't explode in silence, we will die in silence!

Joseph, Chloe, our game has begun!

…

Lincoln had witnessed everything. He could already guess the identity of the man involved. He calmly took the phone back from her, but remained silent.

It wasn't until she started the car that his low, slightly cold voice reached her ears: "Don't hesitate. Be harsher, only then will you stand firm."

Her movements froze for a moment. Looking at him in the rearview mirror, he had that indifferent, 'kill them all' expression on his face…

Yes, she knew this man's nature all too well—he was always ruthless and merciless.

She didn't mind exposing her vicious side in front of him. After all, his sharp insight could see through everything—nothing she did could be concealed from him. Moreover, his methods were far more ruthless than hers!

In their past lives, when they worked together, how many people had fallen before them? The political parasites in D.C. had been nearly wiped out! Those people hated them both with a passion!

Even in the years that followed, she remained his sharpest sword. Wherever he pointed, she would strike, and they worked together seamlessly. Although they often argued, they could always stick to the core principles!

The car window remained down as they drove slowly into the vast rainstorm ahead.

However, as they passed the white Ferrari, Evelyn still turned her gaze away, quietly watching the couple embracing in the rain.

As the car passed by, Joseph instinctively stepped back, shielding Chloe. But when his eyes accidentally met the car that passed, he found himself staring into a pair of cold, icy eyes…

Evelyn…

Joseph was momentarily stunned, his movements freezing up as he stared at the woman in the car window...

Before he could get a clear look, the car had already passed by, vanishing into the rainstorm ahead like a gust of wind, making him doubt whether he had imagined it…

"Send the video to my phone when we get back, if it's convenient," Evelyn said, her voice calm, as if the person who had almost lost control earlier wasn't her at all.

"Do you need help?" he asked indifferently.

Evelyn shook her head, not minding as she cursed out loud, "I have my own way of dealing with these bitches!"

This matter couldn't be solved so simply. The relationship between the Harrison clan and the James family was at stake. If she wasn't careful, things could backfire, turning the James family into Chloe's bargaining chip. Yin Zhenghua had long been dissatisfied with just being a vice president!

This was something she didn't want to see.

But thinking about it, this man's connections were far more powerful than hers, so she didn't hesitate to say, "Help me find a few reliable platforms, and also find a team of online commenters to help Chloe clear her name, making it seem like the James family looks down on Chloe Louis, not letting her into their circle. We need to paint her as pitiful. By the way, I have one of her secret sns…"

This move was something she learned from him in her past life...

She didn't need to say anything else. She believed that this man would definitely understand what she meant, and he would never disappoint her, only surprise her!

She would gradually eliminate Chloe's leverage, piece by piece!

"Mm."

The man responded indifferently.

"Should we head directly to Tranquil Haven?"

Not wanting to continue on this topic, Evelyn took a deep breath and asked.

"Mm."

Lincoln responded again, but suddenly couldn't suppress a cough. In the narrow space, it sounded a bit cold. Evelyn instinctively glanced at the rearview mirror and saw that his face didn't look good. She silently slowed down the car, reaching for the windbreaker she had thrown on the passenger seat and tossed it to him.

She still felt some tenderness toward him, whether it was in the past or now…

"No need..."

He coughed intermittently, his voice sounding a bit weary. "It's just a small cold."

"Your health is the foundation of everything; you need to take care of yourself."

She recalled the following years in her past life when she went to his office to see him, and he was always in poor health... She heard that he had a lot of conflicts with his family over it, but in the end, they all compromised with him...

Upon hearing this, the man suddenly looked up at her, lightly coughing again. His eyes, dim and somewhat hazy, seemed to be trying to prove something as he explained, "It's just a small illness, I'm not that fragile."

That's because you don't know you were a definite 'sickly beauty' in your past life!

Evelyn silently thought to herself, remembering the times in his past life when he fell ill multiple times, feeling a bit uncomfortable and melancholic in her heart.

She hadn't realized before how much she felt pity for him—perhaps it was because she felt she owed him something.

Anyway, in Evelyn's heart, even now, she still saw him as a fragile, sickly man…

"I'm just worried that if something happens to you, I'll be asked to write a self-criticism."

After thinking for a moment, Evelyn replied with this.

After all, didn't she have to write a long self-criticism in her past life?

As soon as these words left her mouth, Lincoln's dazed gaze suddenly froze. A trace of coldness appeared on his distinguished, handsome face. He stared at her for a moment before turning his gaze toward the car window, his suppressed coughs continuing...

Then, Evelyn was left unsure of what she had done wrong. She could clearly feel that he seemed to be angry.

She was truly innocent. His temper was still the same as in her past life...

Unpredictable!

Impossible to read!

The atmosphere in the car became somewhat oppressive. Evelyn cautiously glanced at him through the rearview mirror. Seeing his expression cold, she hesitated for a moment, then suddenly remembered a particular accordion song he often played in his past life. She softly began to hum it.

Her cool, slightly hoarse voice was still quite pleasant to listen to.

Upon hearing the song, Lincoln's indifferent gaze turned toward her again, his expression much calmer. He seemed surprised and asked, "You like this song too?"

"When I was a child, my father would often sing this song to me. Does Vice President like it too?"

Seeing that he had regained his composure, Evelyn let out a soft laugh.

Lincoln's eyes darkened for a moment, seemingly lost in thought. Then he smiled faintly, "I heard it a few times from an old acquaintance."

An old acquaintance...

Seeing him deep in thought, Evelyn decided not to say anything further.
