Chapter 37 - Chapter 37 – Veyon’s Smile

---

Location: Tower Floor 99 – The Hollowed Throne

The air was thick with divine energy, warped by something darker—older.

Veyon stood at the center of the throne room, draped in obsidian robes that shimmered like oil over fire. His face was calm, eerily so, as he watched the image of Lyra's sacrifice dissolve in the sky above.

"She really did it…" he murmured, a bitter smile touching his lips. "Even after all that."

Beside him, an Executioner knelt. "The Oracle has broken her fate."

Veyon didn't look at it. His eyes were on the shattered hourglass floating in his palm—an artifact that once tracked Rael's soul fragments.

It was glowing again.

"He's returning," Veyon said softly. "One body at a time. One memory at a time."

He closed his hand, crushing the hourglass. "But I prepared for that."

Flashback – Seven Years Ago, Tower Floor 72

Veyon stood before the Mirror of Truth, bleeding from both eyes. Rael had just collapsed nearby—drained, unconscious, loyal.

The system had given Veyon a choice.

> [Opportunity Detected.] [Would you like to hijack the chosen one's fate?] [Warning: Extreme consequences. Chance of divine wrath: 94%]

He didn't hesitate.

> [Confirmed.] [Fate Hijack in Progress…]

Back then, he hadn't done it out of malice.

He did it because he was afraid.

Rael was becoming something else. Not human. Not god. Just… beyond.

And Veyon?

Veyon was ordinary.

Powerful, yes—but not legendary.

"I couldn't bear being forgotten," he muttered, the memory vanishing. "So I made him into the villain."

---

Present

Veyon stared at a floating cube—an image of Rael and Selene escaping the Forbidden Archive.

"Every step you take, Rael," he said, voice echoing, "I already walked it before."

The Executioner stirred. "Orders?"

Veyon turned to the massive map behind him—one showing every remaining floor.

And in the center, a red marker pulsed.

Floor 70 – The Maze of Echoes.

"Let him reach the Maze," Veyon said, grinning. "Let him meet her. Then… activate the Soul Trap."

He turned away, his expression empty. "This time, Rael… your death will be permanent."
