Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

Damon's POV

"That's not what I'm doing." Emily replied.

"Then tell me why your watch is not in your hand? Did you get busy? Was it in your way of doing something? Why did you take it off? Oh, or is my ring gonna start bothering you anytime soon too? Would you like to take that too off?" I was so pissed, and already failing at keeping my cool.

"I visited Dathan earlier in the day." She swallowed hard. "I must have left it there."

"Is that a probability or you're sure you did?" I asked her.

"I'm sure I did." Emily replied.

"May I ask why you were there?" I asked, towering over her.

"No." She said, I paused a bit. Maybe she's lost her mind. "No, you may not."

"That's just a fancy way of asking. Pardon my manners." I chuckled a bit. "Why were you in Dathan's room? Alone?" I added for emphasis.

"I need peace and quiet from the chaos in this palace." She replied.

Emily's head was bent in subordination, but her replies couldn't have been more rebellious.

"And are you sure the chaos you see is in this palace? Or in your head? Because, you see, everyone else seems to be doing extremely well, and you're the only one who seems out of place." I said.

"That's the exact vocabulary I was looking for." Emily replied.

Deep down something in me liked the fact that she could speak up for herself. As much as I wanted someone who would be obedient, submissive and really respectful, I did not want a robot.

I liked her spicy and feisty.

"If you feel that way, who's fault do you think it is?" I asked, "mind you, don't think I have forgotten about this." I said, holding her watch up.

"I've had a long day today, I wish to be in bed." Emily replied.

She curtsied and left to switch the lights from the white led bulb, to the cool blue halogen light.

"I'm not done talking to you." I said, trying to fight the mood I was getting in.

Emily had changed out of the clothes she went shopping in, and had a new nightwear on.

I can't remember giving it to her, but I knew there's so many gifts she got at our wedding.

"I'm listening." She said, turning on her bed to face me, "For as long as I'm awake, which would not be too long."

I sucked on some air, trying to keep my cool.

Everyone was trying me, my wife included.

"Are you so tired?" I asked, and put her watch on the dressing table, giving up the argument I wanted to have so badly.

"No." Emily replied. "Not really. I just do not have the strength to trade words."

"You think that's all I'm here for?" I asked her.

"It's all you're ever here for. I don't even have to think about it. Plus, you've said I don't think, so why would you ask me a question that requires thinking?" Emily said.

"There's no place for sarcasm or cutting remarks in your reply to me." I replied.

"I'm sorry, Alpha." Emily stood up from her bed, curtsied, and lay down back.

This time she turned to the wall, and turned her back to me.

I fought the urge I felt to touch her, or just lay close to her.

To enjoy the body of my wife for the first time.

It didn't make sense that I did, but I just did.

I finally swallowed my primal urges, took what was left of my dignity, and walked out of her room.

That was till I lost control at her door.

"Do you wish to stay tonight alone?" I asked her.

I was a bit scared, apprehensive, and careful with her.

Emily was young, and so was I.

I didn't want my hormones to make me do anything stupid.

"Like I always have." Emily replied.

I closed her door, and walked back casually to my room.

I still had work clothes on, the suit I'd taken so many pictures in during the day.

As I tore my clothes off, an idea struck my mind.

Maybe I could make her my secretary.

I checked Emily's records in the orphanage, and she was a very smart kid.

Maybe I could make her my PA.

Scratch 'maybe'. That's what I'd do.

I took a cold shower, long enough to ease my sore muscles and give me time to process.

And I still came up with the same conclusion. So I changed into a pair of night clothes that Emily had washed and ironed for me.

"Am I making things better, or worse?" I asked myself as I picked out a floss.

I sat, with my nerves firing up and down. Emily being my assistant would not be so bad.

It would just put us in close quarters all day, and that's really what I wanted.

That's the only way I could get to know her.

"Let's do this." I said to myself, throwing the used floss wire into the bin.

I undid the buttons of my shirt on purpose.

With much swagger and intention, I walked to my Luna's room.

Emily's room was to be right opposite mine.

But while I had no issues settling into my late fathers room, I didn't think Emily was yet ready to take my mother's place, so I had her use the room right below, which had the same architectural design.

"Can I come in?" I asked after knocking lightly on Emily's door.

No response from within.

So I knocked again, a little harder this time, and the door opened.

It appeared not to have been properly closed or jammed, and if I was really the last person to walk out of her room, there's something funny going on, cause I remembered closing it tight.

"Emily?" I called again, no response.

I took out my phone and used its flashlight to navigate.

Her room had clothes strewn all over the floor.

I knew something was up.
