Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

The air hung heavy, thick with an unspoken strangeness that pressed against my skin. I stood in a sea of faces—thousands of them, each one unfamiliar, their features blurring into a monotonous tide. Strangers, all of them. My eyes darted through the crowd, searching for a glimpse of someone I knew, someone I loved. But every face was new, cold, and expressionless. No trace of joy, no flicker of sorrow. Just an endless expanse of blank stares.I felt nothing. No ache for what I'd lost, no spark of recognition. My own emotions were as dull as the faces around me. Where am I? The question clawed at my mind. Where are my loved ones? Then, a figure caught my eye. A familiar silhouette, unmistakable even in this alien place. Richard. He'd always been a towering man, six feet tall with a broad, round frame that filled any room. But now, he looked… wrong. Shrunken. A husk of the man I'd known, his form faded like a ghost. My heart lurched. A sharp, icy pang shot through my skull, and a memory surfaced: Richard is dead. Last Friday, he'd succumbed to asthma, his lungs betraying him after years of struggle. So how was he here, standing among the crowd?I didn't hesitate. I pushed through the throng, weaving past faceless figures, my pulse quickening. I had to reach him, to understand. But when I arrived at the spot where he'd stood, Richard was gone. The crowd had swallowed him—or maybe he'd never been there at all.I stopped, my breath shallow. The world around me shifted. The sea of strangers vanished, leaving me alone in a place that was both beautiful and desolate. No scent of flowers stirred the air. No birdsong reached my ears. No rivers carved through the landscape, no hills rose to meet the horizon. My senses found nothing to grasp, yet the place held an eerie allure. It was plain, stripped of life's vibrancy, and still… it was beautiful.

My senses found nothing to grasp, yet the emptiness held a haunting charm. It was plain, stark, and somehow captivating.I wandered, my steps silent in the stillness. Then, ahead, a massive thing shimmered—transparent, gleaming like liquid light. I approached, unease tightening my chest. Inside it, a figure took shape. A man, looking fine—unharmed, serene, composed. Yet he seemed familiar, but impossible to place. A traumatic scare erupted within me, raw and overwhelming. Why? Why did this figure terrify me so? Even with that scare, my mind scrambled, grasping for answers, but none came. Confusion gripped me. "Who is it?" I whispered, my voice barely steady.Soon, the figure stepped out from the glistening object, standing before me. Its features too close to something I should know, but didn't. Fear surged, sharp and cold. I forced the words out. "Who are you?"Its eyes met mine, calm and boundless. "God," it said, its voice as plain as the world around us.
