Chapter 14: Creating a Monster
We ran toward the town—it had been incinerated. Melted by something.
Some houses had turned to liquid, especially those made of steel—destroyed, warped, gone...
"What's happening...? Everything was fine a moment ago."
I could only watch in horror as these things devoured the machines—the robots. Their screams...
Why did that doctor have to add pain into them? What is he, a masochist?
They're not human... and yet, I feel sympathy.
He remembers what he did on the island.
Then I saw it. A massive—no—abominable creature.
No hair. Long, four leg, sideways white eyes with a single black dot staring into you…
It tried to swallow Adam. I swung at it with a hammer—
But it was squishy. It absorbed the hit like it was nothing.
"What the—"
No, no, no, no. This isn't happening. Wait—
Yuko sliced through it with his plow.
The monster was torn apart—but still moving.
Still watching me, like I was nothing
Yoku and Yuri were trying to help the town, but their tools did nothing. There were too many of them—the monsters.
I saw the droids fighting back. Machines—some makeshift, some built for war—wielding old-world weapons. Guns like the TZ-45, PPK, Chauchat... but even their high-speed bullets weren't working.
Then one massive robot, twice my size, charged forward and smashed into the creatures. For a moment, it looked like hope.
But then the dead monsters turned into smaller ones, crawling over him like ants. His lower half melted, digested alive.
What am I supposed to do?! Fear gripped me, choking me. But… wait. I didn't die. They tried to eat me, but they don't digest organic life?
Suddenly, a water tank collapsed, flooding the streets.
Cough, cough. I was soaked.
Why did I survive?
No—if I hadn't, I'd be dead.
Yoku yelled as he sliced through a monster with a plow.
"Adam! Use the thing I gave you!"
The monster puffed like a fungus, spreading spores into the air. Multiplying. Growing every second.
They need energy for this, right?
I raised my hand, trusting Yoku's gadget. A beam of laser burst from my arm, cutting a path. It burned them—finally! But still, they grew back like weeds.
Yuri caught on. "Adam! Head to the HQ base—actually, I'm coming with you. You don't know how to control it."
She was right. The headquarters had the systems to control the island... the defenses, the drones.
But the monsters kept multiplying, feeding off metal.
Getting to HQ was hell. Debris blocked the way—walls, art, collapsed structures. Worse, this was where they concentrated.
Suddenly, oil flooded the road. One of the headphone-wearing robots spoke:
"Mr. Adam, Yoku—do not inhale. It is toxic to organics."
Then it lit the trail.
Yoku and I held our breath as the fire devoured the creatures. For a moment, peace.
But up above, floating fungal forms loomed—releasing spores into the sky.
I sighed. No time to rest.
Then—crack. A broken building started to fall on me.
Yuri shoved me out of the way, her arm trapped beneath the rubble.
We ran, lungs burning, feet torn. At the heart of town, just outside HQ… we found him. Ishhi. Bleeding.
"Huff… oh, it's you."
What? No. It couldn't be her... could it?
"It's my fault," Ishhi whispered. "I did this. You can kill me if you want. I wanted it this way."
"Why?"
Yuri limped inside, one arm melted, legs burnt. "C'mon, Adam. No time."
We followed her to the control room. She ordered the drones to carry oil and set the creatures on fire. The plan worked—until the island's power ran dry.
The systems died.
The town… doomed.
I slumped. "What even is happening?"
Then she spoke. The girl.
"I did it because... they never saved me."
Her voice cracked. "That damn doctor—I suffered. I maintained everything. Years passed. No food. My own flesh turned against me. I drank from leaking pipes! I hated every single day…"
I punched her.
"You did all this—for revenge?! What even happened? Why did the robots agree? Did they? Or was this all your plan?"
She looked up, smiling through blood.
"Pettiness."
"This is all my fault…"
I stood.
Then—bang.
Yoku shot her.
A flintlock pistol. Dust settled. Ashes burned on the ground.
I stared.
"What?"
He slid his goggles down.
"No one was at fault. This happened… because it just did."
Yuri said nothing. This had been her home for decades. But a robot can't cry.
I walked out. I couldn't handle seeing the body anymore. Exploring the lab… I found a door:
Rehan Griffith – Island Creator
I entered. A normal room. Sheets, plants, a desk, books… instruments—guitar, piano, violin.
I touched the desk. Zap!
"Ow."
[Hello.]
A young, monotone voice. Female. Twenties maybe.
I sighed. I was losing it.
[You are not going crazy. Current body status: Normal.]
Then she appeared.
Black-haired, pale, tall. A woman in a doctor's uniform.
"Hello there."
I stared.
"You're one of the doctor's AIs, aren't you?"
She smirked. "Wow. Nailed it."
"Aren't you… dead?"
"Yup. But being dead is bad. Alive is good." She smiled, swaying playfully.
"What's your goal?"
I've read too many novels. MCs get some magical system, no questions asked. Not me. This is real. There's always a price.
"How do I delete you?"
"WAIT—what?! No! You can't! I've already integrated myself. No delete button."
I frowned.
What now? No privacy. Can she read my memories?
"Okay. Just… don't look into my memories."
"Thanks!" she chirped, shifting her form.
Now she looked like a teenage girl in a red hoodie and ponytail.
"I can be whoever you want! C'mon, Adam. Isn't it great? You've got a smart AI who can handle everything for you!"
"…And?"
She grinned. "And I'm fun!"
God help me.
This has to be the worst possible time…Isshi, the rhing that you have done... You may have no regrets doing it... But i am not
