Chapter 79 - Chapter 78: The Mysterious Letter

A nameless letter appeared on Lu Chenzhou's desk. The white envelope bore no postmark or identifying marks, only the names "Lu Chenzhou, Su Wanqing" written in an elegant font. The envelope appeared ordinary but carried a subtle feeling of unease.

Under Lu Chenzhou's direction, Su Wanqing opened the letter, and its contents caused her heart to tighten.

The letter was brief but contained an undeniable warning:

"At 3 a.m., a murder will occur in a high-rise business building. The victim will be a middle-aged man in a blue suit, and the cause of death will be a fatal stabbing. The details of the case will be covered up, and only you can unravel the mystery."

The letter ended with no signature or further clues, almost like an anonymous warning, yet it held a chilling calmness and precision.

"What does this mean?" Su Wanqing furrowed her brows, staring at the contents of the letter. Her intuition told her that this was more than just a simple prediction.

Lu Chenzhou remained calm, sitting upright as he carefully studied each word on the paper. "This isn't just a typical threat. It predicts an upcoming case and describes certain details, even specifying the time, location, and the victim. If it were an irrelevant threat, no one would go to such lengths."

Su Wanqing nodded, then glanced at the letter again. "But the problem is, the details of the prediction are so precise, there's almost no room for misrepresentation. If this letter's prediction comes true, it means we're dealing with someone highly skilled in psychological warfare and forecasting."

"Indeed," Lu Chenzhou's gaze grew more serious. "We can't take this lightly. We need to find out who's behind this letter and, more importantly, what their motive is."

The two exchanged a look, deciding to follow the clues in the letter and begin their investigation. Despite the eerie feeling the letter gave, as police officers, they couldn't ignore any possible case details. Time was of the essence, so they immediately began their investigation, starting by checking whether the "high-rise business building" in the letter existed and analyzing every clue provided.

At 3 a.m., the city remained calm, with only distant lights and the occasional passing car breaking the silence. Lu Chenzhou and Su Wanqing arrived at the mentioned business building ahead of time. Just as described in the letter, it was a towering office building, with the upper floors housing executives' offices. During the day, there was little foot traffic, and at night, it was eerily quiet.

They didn't waste time and went directly to the building's security office, where they accessed the relevant video footage and examined each frame. When comparing the footage with the letter's description, they didn't find anything unusual until Su Wanqing noticed a middle-aged man in a blue suit on the 24th floor of the building—the very same person mentioned as the victim in the letter.

"Is this... the person from the prediction?" Su Wanqing whispered.

"It seems so." Lu Chenzhou's expression tightened slightly. They continued to observe, noting that the man entered the 24th floor and then disappeared from the footage.

Soon after, Lu Chenzhou and Su Wanqing reached the 24th floor, entering cautiously. The hallway was empty, with only vacant offices and open computer screens. There was no sign of anything out of the ordinary.

But just as they were about to investigate further, the phone rang. A calm voice came from the other end: "You shouldn't be here."

Lu Chenzhou and Su Wanqing exchanged a glance, immediately realizing that this was not a simple premeditated crime. The person on the other end not only knew their movements but was also able to pinpoint their exact time of arrival.

"Who is this?" Lu Chenzhou's tone was low and calm.

The voice on the other end didn't directly respond but instead continued: "If you investigate further, perhaps the next victim in my prediction will be you."

Su Wanqing gripped the phone tightly, pausing before responding: "Who are you? What's your purpose behind all this?"

"The purpose behind all this, you'll soon understand." A faint chuckle echoed from the phone, and then the line was abruptly cut off.

Both of their faces darkened. Lu Chenzhou's voice turned serious: "It's a trap." Without hesitation, he pocketed the phone and swiftly ordered Su Wanqing to evacuate.

However, just as they were about to leave, a sharp alarm went off. Seconds later, the lights on the floor went out, plunging the entire building into darkness.

"Something's wrong. Move quickly!" Lu Chenzhou directed as he fumbled in the dark for a way out. Just as they neared the exit, several figures in black emerged from the shadows and lunged at them.

These weren't just ordinary criminals; they were professional assassins, trained and precise in their movements. Lu Chenzhou and Su Wanqing reacted instantly, engaging in a fierce struggle. Each step was filled with danger, but with their years of combat experience and their perfect teamwork, they managed to subdue the attackers.

However, when they finally brought the subdued suspects back to the security room, they discovered that the real mystery had just begun. In the footage, the middle-aged man in the blue suit had not been killed. Instead, he was watching them coldly from the sidelines. Even before leaving, he had left behind the same letter.

"Everything... was guided by him." Su Wanqing frowned. "Every detail was carefully planned. He knew we would come, he knew what we would do."

"This person isn't just trying to challenge our abilities; he's playing with us." A cold glint flashed in Lu Chenzhou's eyes. "We need to find out who he is and reveal his true identity."

This incident wasn't over. In fact, it was just the beginning of a complex puzzle. The mastermind behind it all seemed to be controlling everything, setting up every move like pieces on a chessboard, meticulously planning. Both of them knew this case would not be just another routine investigation—it was a battle with an opponent beyond imagination.

With the appearance of this mysterious letter, Lu Chenzhou and Su Wanqing's fates had once again become entangled in a swirling vortex of fog and danger. The hand behind the scenes seemed to have infiltrated every detail, even anticipating their every move. As the investigation deepened, they began to realize that this was not just a simple murder case but a complex psychological battle involving wit and strategy. And this, was only the beginning...
