Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 - Turning point

I got up, the feeling of disgust still left inside me. Knees still weak i stumble outside of the vile armory, dragging the remains of Matilda. I wipe my tears off my face.

"YOU FUCKING BASTARDS" I yelled.

I couldnt keep these emotions welled up, i wanted revenge. I may not have known her too well but she was a human, she had family, she had friends, she had a soul. Yet now all that's left is this soulless body.

After successfully dragging it outside of the armory i went inside, opening the tent's window. With the newly acquired light i see the several boxes full of equipment. I grab a more advanced rifle and i stuff some ammo in my backpack. I grab a helmet and some shoulder pads i found from the box.

I look around and i find a holster, equipping it on my belt, not having something to place inside i search and i find a pistol that fits inside the holster. I place it inside and find some mags that match it. I look for something useful and i grab a vest, equipping it and placing my mags on it.

Now suited up i exit the armory to be faced with her body. I grab some matches and look for anything flammable. I didnt have enough time to dig a grave. I walk around until i find some gas, i grab the tank and walk to her body.

"It didnt have to turn out like this..." I say as i pour gas all over her body.

I light a match and throw it on her. Her body engulfs in flames and i just stare at it there. I didnt know how to react. Cry? Yell? It wouldnt bring her back... After a while the fires stop and all that is left is ash...

I dig a small patch under the ground and place her remains inside. I walk off, i didnt want to involve myself anymore.

I grab my rifle and i start searching for a car that works. After a bit, a humvee actually powers on and i put some gas in it. I smash through the entrance and leave the military checkpoint and i start heading to the house.

I couldnt imagine that driving on these lonely roads could be so boring. I think about all the things that have happened about now. I woke up from a coma, i found a girl, we found a military checkpoint, she got jumped, i ended her suffering.

I felt depressed, i killed a human... No... I killed a comrade that insisted on helping me...

I lower my head, to the steering wheel and start crying, the car still moving... I hit a bump and i focus back on the road, my eyes still blurry from the tears. The sun started to set and i stopped to a gas station near to sleep for the night.

I parked outside of the station and as i opened the door i heard someone coughing.

"Is anybody here?" I said...

A small voice answering. "D-Dont hurt me", a little teenage girl said. I walked over to her, the dimly lit room didnt offer much assistance.

"Are you alright? Im John... Where is your family?" I said, and she replied "I-Im Amy, i am just 15 a-and i don't know where my family is... P-Please dont kill me"

She looked completely terrified. I took out the flashlight and i shined it on her. She was average height with black hair and blue eyes. Her clothes offered little to no resistance against the cold and i saw her shivering. I unbuckled my vest and removed my jacket, placing it over her.

"Do you want to come with me?" I ask, wanting to have as many companions as i could.

"Y-Yes, please", she answers, her shivering nearly gone.

"For the night we will stay here. But first thing in the morning we are leaving. You good with that?" I ask.

"Yeah, im fine with it" she answers.

I had made a new companion, but she was just a little kid. I didnt know what she would be useful for but two pairs of hands are better than one. We settled in the gas station for the night and we slept on some newspapers we found.

Tomorrow wouldnt be so joyful though.
