Chapter 8 - Chapter 7: The Scourge of the Hunters

Along with Mark's horrified voice, the crowd got a good look inside the storeroom door, and instead of the expected abundance of supplies, it was a horrifying sight.

Several mutilated corpses were scattered on the ground, dripping with blood. What was even more palpitating was that a group of monstrous creatures were crouching over the corpses and gnawing frantically. These monsters were covered in pale skin, their limbs were long and covered in sharp claws, and their eyes were glowing with an eerie glow of ghostly green.

"Hunters!" Eliza shouted down in horror.

Hearing the sound, the Hunters turned their heads in unison, with pieces of flesh and blood hanging from the corners of their mouths, and let out sharp and ear-piercing hisses, before quickly lunging at Ian and the others.

"Retreat! Retreat!" Ron shouted.

The squad members immediately turned around and ran desperately. But the hunters were far faster than expected, and caught up with them in an instant.

The corridor was narrow and crowded, and Bruno struggled to swing the iron plate in his hand in order to cover his teammates, temporarily blocking the pursuing hunters. But the hunters were too numerous, swarming and rapidly closing in.

Ron ran while nervously shouting, "The exit in front, rush out!"

Ian gasped and quickly ran towards the doorway in front of him, but the hunters had already closed in behind him, their sharp claws slicing through the air with the chill of death. He spun around violently, swinging his long knife and engaging the nearest hunter fiercely.

Alisa stopped in her tracks as well, nimbly swinging her dagger and accurately stabbing the hunters in the vitals. But the hunters were undaunted, pouncing forward and back, and the battle instantly descended into chaos.

Mark quickly shot several arrows, each of which accurately penetrated the hunters' skulls, but the arrows quickly ran out, and he had to draw his short dagger and fight the hunters in close quarters.

"We won't last long!" Bruno shouted, the iron plate in his hand already covered in deep claw marks.

Ian clenched his teeth, his heartbeat accelerated violently, and his body almost reached its limit. The hunters in front of him were as endless as the tide, and with every one that was knocked down, more hunters immediately filled in.

Right at this moment, a hunter violently attacked from the side, its sharp claws quickly cut through Ian's shoulder, blood immediately gushed out, and the intense pain caused him to have a dizzy spell.

"Watch out!" Alyssa shouted anxiously, trying to rush over to help, but being entangled in several hunters, she was unable to get away.

Ian clenched his teeth and barely managed to stand still, swinging his long sword to continue fighting. He was filled with despair inside, but he could not give up.

"We have to break out or all of us will die here!" Ron hissed, the battle axe in his hand swung vigorously, cutting down the hunters.

"Charge towards the exit, don't worry about the ones behind us!" Mark shouted, desperately rushing forward.

Hearing the command, the crowd no longer cared about the dangers behind them, and ran furiously in the direction of the exit with all their might.

Just as they were about to reach the exit, a hunter swooped down on Bruno, pinning him to the ground.

"Bruno!" Ian exclaimed, stopping in his tracks and preparing to return to help.

"Don't worry about me, go!" Bruno yelled, and in the narrow passageway, Bruno fought to the last of his strength, using his strong body to stop the hunters dead in their tracks, so that the hunters couldn't continue their pursuit.

Ian's eyes were slightly red, but at this point he had no choice but to grit his teeth and charge forward.

Surviving a few people looked at the exit not far ahead, the exit into the sunlight, as if illuminating the hope of living, once every day within reach of the sunlight, the crowd has never felt as dazzling as this moment.

Just at this moment, the light of the exit was blocked by a dark shadow, Ron who rushed at the front was the first to react: "SHIT! There are hunters in front too, we are surrounded! It's a trap!"

The hope that had just risen in a few people was instantly enveloped by despair, everyone knew very well that there was no escape, either die in this gloomy air defense cave or take out all the enemies in front of them!

Ian took a deep breath and thought in his heart, "Am I going to die here so soon, no! Won't! I'm going to live!"
