Chapter 23 - Chapter 22: Stepping into the Hunting Ground

As the early morning shimmering light appeared, Ian and the other contestants left the Brotherhood of Steel's headquarters and walked towards the entrance of the hunting grounds. The moment he stepped out of the gate of the headquarters, the sight in front of him immediately made him feel a heavy heart.

The streets of the City of Ashes appeared even more dilapidated, many buildings had collapsed or burned to rubble, and mangled corpses and blood could be seen everywhere on the ground, and the air was filled with a strong smell of blood and scorched odor. It was obvious that the City of Ashes had been attacked by a new round of mutants.

Ian stopped his steps and looked at the city that had once again experienced havoc in just a few days, "These past few days, I actually didn't notice ... in the slightest," he whispered to himself, his fists involuntarily clenching. This meant that the Brotherhood of Steel had blocked the mutant attack even without deploying high-level psychics, relying solely on the ordinary guards at the entrance.

In other words, it meant that the Brotherhood of Steel was actually fully capable of protecting the City of Ashes, but chose to stand by and allow the civilian population within the city to suffer and die. -

Along the way, he saw countless civilians busily cleaning up the streets, and the looks of sadness and despair made Ian even angrier. Especially when he saw the lonely crying children in the corners of the streets, his heart was like a knife.

"This city, it needs true guardians, not indifferent bystanders." Ian secretly vowed, "One day, I will make it so that no one will have to go through such pain again."

Firming his inner quest, Ian quickened his pace, right now it was better to pass the trial and get the attention of the Brotherhood of Steel before negotiating terms. The group set off towards the outskirts of the city, heading towards the location of the third round of trials.

After half a day's journey, the group arrived at the trial site, surrounded by a wall, it was completely impossible to see how much space there was inside, Reynolds opened his mouth, "This is your hunting ground, you'll be spending the next three days in here, you can only carry a small amount of water and food, as well as a copy of the map, there are only two endings for you, complete the quest or die in there, are you ready? "

"Ready!" The crowd replied in unison

Reynolds nodded with satisfaction, "Very well, when you go in, remember that you'll be facing not only mutants, but also humans. If you want to survive you must be alert at all times."

.....

The internal environment of the hunting ground was completely different from the outside world, it was surrounded by dense forests, the trees covered the sky, the ground was wet and muddy, and there were bursts of weird animal hissing noises coming from the surroundings, vaguely transmitting a dangerous aura.

Ian took a deep breath, quickly adjusted his state, and began to carefully observe his surroundings. He carefully stepped over the muddy ground, each step unusually cautious.

"First, confirm the environment and master the terrain." He secretly said in his mind.

Ian quickly climbed up a tall tree and used his height to observe his surroundings. He found that the hunting ground was vast and boundless, surrounded by dense jungles, and a tall ruined building was faintly visible in the center of the distance, which was obviously the key location of this survival trial.

"It seems that to complete the mission, we must get close to that ruin as soon as possible." Ian quickly made a plan in his mind.

He jumped down from the trees and quickly headed towards the center.

However, before he could get out far, his keen sense of hearing caught a strange ringing sound coming from the vicinity, as if something was approaching.

Ian quickly stopped in his tracks, his whole body's muscles tensed, and his gaze sharply looked around.

A few seconds later, a low growl came from the bushes, and then a huge black shadow rushed out violently.

This was a mutant beast with sharp scales all over its body, the bone spikes rising from its back were incomparably sharp, and its eyes were red, staring at Ian as it let out an angry low roar.

Ian's heart flinched and he quickly drew out his long knife and took a fighting stance.

The mutant beast rushed up without hesitation, its speed was astonishing, Ian instantly activated the insect sensory enhancement, and the scene in his eyes instantly became extremely clear. He dodged sideways, accurately avoiding the mutant beast's charge, and his long knife slashed at its abdomen.

However, the mutant beast's reaction was also extremely agile, quickly sidestepping and blocking the attack with the bone spikes on its back, emitting an ear-piercing metallic friction sound.

Ian quickly retreated and pulled away, secretly surprised in his heart, "Not only is this mutant beast fast, its defense is also extremely strong, it seems to be no ordinary opponent."

The mutant beast once again roared and charged, this time the bone spikes on its back unexpectedly rose up violently and shot out like countless sharp blades.

Ian quickly utilized the agility enhanced by his insect senses to deftly weave between the bone spikes, dodging the deadly attack. He took the opportunity to quickly approach the mutant beast's flank and violently activated his gravity control ability, pressing his palm downward, a powerful gravity oppression instantly descended on the mutant beast.

The mutant beast instantly slowed down and let out a pained roar, taking advantage of this opportunity, Ian decisively struck, and without hesitation, his long knife stabbed into the neck of the mutant beast.

Blood spurted out, and the mutant beast struggled for a few moments before finally collapsing to the ground.

[Successful looting, Strength +5%, Speed +5%]

Ian exhaled a long breath, his heartbeat gradually regaining its calm. He drew his long knife and gazed at the mutant beast's corpse, inwardly saying, "This is only the first battle in the hunting ground, and it's already so difficult, it seems that the next trials will be even more brutal."
