Chapter 30: Secrets Unfold in Shadows
The morning sun spilled through the cracks of Leo's estate, but it brought little warmth to the storm brewing in his mind. Nero, his parrot, perched on the windowsill, watching him with an almost knowing expression.
"Big trouble. Big trouble," Nero squawked, flapping his wings.
Leo sighed. "You've been saying that a lot lately, Nero. Maybe you should consider a career as a fortune-teller."
Kai, seated across the room, smirked. "You're surrounded by a feathery prophet. How fitting for a man stepping deeper into the underground's chaos."

A Sister's Connection
As Leo reviewed the information Marco had collected, his gaze lingered on a photograph of his sister, Lin. Her piercing eyes stared back at him, standing beside Victor, the leader of the Steel Vipers. Lin's association with the underground world was no longer a question.
"They call her 'The Viper's Mind,'" Marco explained, leaning against the desk. "She's been pulling strings for the Steel Vipers for years."
Leo's grip on the photo tightened. Lin had always been cunning, but this revelation made him question everything he knew about her.
"Why didn't she tell me?" Leo muttered.
"Because it's the underground," Kai interjected. "Secrets are currency. The less you know, the safer you are."

A Meeting in the Shadows
Later that evening, Leo and Kai made their way to a meeting with Rafe, the leader of the Silver Daggers—a smaller gang with connections to the Black Feather.
The meeting took place in a dilapidated warehouse, where dim lights barely pierced the heavy shadows. Rafe waited, flanked by two guards, his demeanor tense.
"Leo," Rafe greeted cautiously, his eyes flicking briefly to Kai, whose face was obscured by the low hood of his jacket. "You came. I wasn't sure you would."
"Talk," Leo said curtly, his frustration evident.
Rafe nodded. "The Black Feather isn't just another gang. They're an empire with influence stretching across continents. Their leader…he's untouchable. Some say he's more myth than man."
"What do they want with me?" Leo demanded.
Rafe hesitated. "I don't know for sure, but they don't act without reason. If they've set their sights on you, it's because you've become important—whether you realize it or not."
Kai, silent until now, shifted slightly. His presence was commanding even without words.

A Twist in the Light
As the meeting continued, a faint noise echoed through the warehouse. Rafe tensed, signaling his guards to stay alert.
"I don't like this," Rafe muttered, his eyes scanning the shadows.
Suddenly, a light flickered overhead, its reflection catching the edge of Kai's face. The faint glow illuminated his sharp features for a brief moment, and Rafe's expression changed instantly.
His eyes widened in shock and fear, his face paling as recognition dawned. "Y-you… I…"
Rafe stumbled back, almost tripping over his own feet. His guards looked at him in confusion, their weapons half-raised.
Kai remained calm, his gaze piercing. "Speak carefully, Rafe." His voice was low, but the threat in it was unmistakable.
"N-no disrespect," Rafe stammered, his demeanor shifting from confident to terrified. "I didn't realize… I didn't know…"
Leo frowned, looking between Kai and Rafe. "What's going on?"
Rafe quickly composed himself, avoiding eye contact with Kai. "Nothing, Boss Leo. Just…respect where it's due."

Aftermath
As they left the warehouse, Leo couldn't shake the unease he felt. "What was that about?" he asked, turning to Kai.
Kai shrugged, his calm facade firmly in place. "Rafe's just a cautious man. Probably realized he was overstepping."
Leo wasn't convinced, but Kai's nonchalant attitude left him with no room to argue.
Back at the estate, Leo sat in his study, deep in thought. Nero perched on his shoulder, chirping softly.
"Big trouble. Big trouble," the parrot muttered.
Leo sighed. "Yeah, Nero. I get it. The question is, how big?"
Meanwhile, Kai stood in the shadows of his own quarters, his phone in hand.
"They're testing my patience," he murmured, his voice cold. "Rafe recognized me. Make sure he understands the cost of speaking out of turn. And as for the others… remind them who the real k
ing is."
A faint smile crossed his lips as he set the phone down, his resolve unshaken.
