CHAPTER 2: "Work It Off"
Damien tapped his fingers against the sleek black surface of his phone, eyes never leaving Arielle.
"I have a meeting in five minutes, and this suit cost more than your rent."
"I said I was sorry—" Arielle snapped.
He held up a hand. "I don't need apologies. I need action."
Her stomach sank. "What… kind of action?"
He smirked, and for a terrifying second, she thought he was enjoying this.
"You'll report to the HR office on the 17th floor. You now work for me. Starting today."
Arielle blinked. "I already have a job."
"Then quit. Or don't." He turned to leave. "But if you want to avoid legal action for damaging my property, you'll show up."
She watched him disappear into the building like some dark storm in a tailored suit. For a second, she stood frozen, humiliated and angry.
Then her phone buzzed.
Elijah: The hospital just called. My meds are running out. They won't refill without payment.
Her heart clenched.
She looked up at the tower in front of her, the name Blackwood Enterprises glowing like a threat.
"Fine," she muttered. "Let's play your game, Mr. CEO."
