Chapter 50 - The Path of Emotion : 2

(Opening Scene: The spreading darkness engulfs the Shifting Labyrinth, the magical hum of the maze faltering as Zane's shadow consumes its structure. The shifting walls begin to still, their movements erratic and then ceasing altogether. The sounds of other applicants become muffled, swallowed by the encroaching void.)

The shadow spread rapidly, a tangible manifestation of Zane's inner turmoil. As it touched the walls of the labyrinth, the shimmering energy that held them in place flickered and died. The intricate pathways dissolved into a uniform darkness. The magical mechanisms that powered the shifting walls sputtered and fell silent.

Zane himself felt a strange sensation, a release of pressure as his shadow expanded. It was as if his emotions had found an outlet, reshaping the environment to his inner state. When the darkness finally settled, covering the entirety of the labyrinth, an unexpected clarity emerged.

The complex network of walls and corridors had vanished. In its place, stretching directly before Zane, was a single, straight path, illuminated by a faint, ethereal glow that seemed to emanate from the designated exit point. The darkness around the path was absolute, but the way forward was clear and unobstructed.

A stunned silence filled the labyrinth. The other applicants, caught within Zane's sudden shadow, were disoriented, their carefully planned routes now swallowed by the void. Some cried out in confusion, others stumbled blindly in the darkness.

Zane stared at the straight path before him, a mixture of awe and bewilderment washing over him. He hadn't consciously intended this. His emotions had simply… reacted. He took a tentative step forward onto the illuminated path. It felt solid beneath his feet.

From the edge of the now-static labyrinth, the observing instructors watched in stunned silence. The chaotic maze had been instantly and completely neutralized by the unexpected manifestation of Zane's power. Master Elmsworth exchanged a look of profound intrigue with his colleagues.

Zane reached the exit point quickly, the straight path offering no obstacles. As he stepped out of the labyrinth, the oppressive darkness within began to recede, dissipating as his emotional state calmed. The labyrinth remained still and shadowed, a testament to the raw, untamed power he possessed.

He saw Astrid emerging from a different section of the maze, her expression a mixture of concern and curiosity as she looked at the now-dormant structure. The adaptability test had taken a very unexpected turn.

"Why do I feel like that was your doing" said Astrid

" i dunno, why do you feel that way" said Zane

Then they both laughed it off and went their separate ways
