Chapter 69 - Eclipse's Awakening

(Opening Scene: Zane sits in the common room of their dorm, a sudden, sharp throbbing behind his eyes. He clutches his temples, a wave of disorientation washing over him.)

"Ugh," Zane groaned, the light from the window seeming to intensify the pain in his head. Fragmented images, echoes of the void and the towering shadow figure, flickered at the edges of his awareness.

Astrid, who was reading nearby, looked up in concern. "Zane? What's wrong?"

"Headache," he mumbled, the throbbing intensifying. "A bad one. But… it feels like more than just a headache. Like something is… pulling me." He felt an inexplicable urge to go to the woods bordering the academy grounds, a sense that something was waiting for him there.

He looked at Astrid, his gaze strangely determined. "I need to go to the woods. Now. Do you think… could we ask the headmaster for permission?"

Astrid, sensing the urgency in his voice and the unusual intensity of his discomfort, nodded without question. "Of course. Let's go."

They found Headmaster Theron in his study, reviewing scrolls. After Zane explained his sudden, compelling need to go to the woods, the headmaster listened intently, his expression thoughtful.

"An unusual request," he mused, stroking his beard. "But given the… unique circumstances surrounding your abilities, Zane, I will grant it. However, I insist on a protective ward. Take this." He handed Astrid a small, intricately carved wooden charm. "It will alert me if you are in any danger. Return before nightfall."

With the headmaster's permission granted, Zane and Astrid made their way to the edge of the academy grounds and entered the dense woods. The throbbing in Zane's head lessened with each step deeper into the trees, replaced by a growing sense of anticipation.

They reached a small clearing, and the air grew still. Then, a familiar ripple of shadow materialized before them. Eclipse solidified, its serpentine form now even more defined, its dark eyes glowing with an ancient power. But there was something different about its aura, a subtle shift in its energy.

As they watched, Eclipse began to… change.

He grew taller and his scales shimmered more

His eyes were now sharper and his speed had doubled

Zane and Astrid stared in astonishment. Eclipse had never displayed such an ability before.

The snake Eclipse then approached a small, scurrying creature that had wandered into the clearing. It didn't attack, but instead, a thin, black fluid dripped from its fangs onto the ground near the creature. The creature twitched violently for a few moments before falling still.

Eclipse then shifted back to its serpentine form, its gaze meeting Zane's and Astrid's. A sense of understanding flowed between them, a silent communication.

It can release Venom ? Astrid whispered

Zane nodded slowly, a sense of wonder and a hint of apprehension mixing within him. The bond with Eclipse had clearly deepened, unlocking new and potentially dangerous abilities. The journey into understanding his own powers, and the nature of his familiar, was far from over.
