Chapter 5 - NYCO BROTHERS

NYCO BROTHERS

Caroline Havens: At Work

Caroline woke up, grabbed some cash, and left for her job in a cab.

I don't want to be late today, she yawned.

The cab driver looked decent, yet she instinctively sent her location to Charles.

I wonder if he's okay. Today's the presentation. I wish I had completed everything yesterday because I'm too reckless.

The cab dropped me off in front of the building, and I saw there was a red carpet.

Am I a CEO now? Did something miraculous happen overnight?

Then someone suddenly pulled my hand and now... I was standing, welcoming someone who hadn't come yet.

A black car stopped in front of our building, and from both sides, two men got out—THE NYCO BROTHERS.

They both inherited this company from their father, who named the company after them. Our CEO is CEO because these two enjoy enjoying rather than being all cold and business-minded.

Then another car came from behind, pure white. And here it is—the fallen angel: GEHRMENSCH DOT.

They both treat him like their elder brother because apparently, their father passed away due to some kind of disease.

All three of them walked on the carpet and entered.

Was the meeting supposed to be this big? Or is this a sudden change? Whatever it is... just please, God. My presentation should pass quickly and safely.

Then the time came—my presentation. I was representing our crew and on behalf of Manager Charles because he was still on bed rest.

That damned Welver.

In the panel were the NYCO BROTHERS—Nickel and Cupra.

Nickel was in a blue suit, white shirt, and blue tie. Reflecting his calm but quirky personality.

Cupra, in his red suit, white shirt, and red tie, was always bold and a little bit of an airhead—but he does sometimes think ahead.

These two guys are the most husband material in our company. From the front, I don't know their dark sides and all. But at least they have some manners.

And then this cold-looking, always-ignorant brat—Gehrmensch Dot.

Always talks to these two but rarely communicates with anyone in this company.

It's not like he has a frown or sharp build. He's just always smiling a bit but never really opens up.

And his dressing sense was very simple too. Just a white shirt. That's it—no coat, no blazer, not even a proper tie.

He isn't messy but just missing the main stuff.

My task was to explain the data of public opinions about different products, which I did correctly.

The NYCO Brothers seemed to be even discussing something about me.

My promotion?

But this guy—GEHRMENSCH—he didn't even look that much.

He sure noted the data but he closed his eyes in the middle of my presentation like I was a pain to look at.

"So! That concludes today's presentation!"

How was it?

Both brothers seemed to be clapping, but him? He just stood up and left?

"Hey Dot!" Nickel stood up.

"Shouldn't you be praising her for her performance?"

That's our Cupra.

Both brothers teaming my side. I can use this opportunity. Caroline, do it! Do it!

I bowed down and spoke,

"Sir, it is absolutely fine. I'm happy that my presentation was worth your attention!"

Here! My trump card.

"Hey look, she's being polite! Stop always being cold and cool—at least praise her."

Nickel, do it my friend! Make him lose.

He looked at me, scanned me from down to up.

Scary! Is he trying to...

"You had seven spelling mistakes. Be considerate it doesn't happen next time."

He left.

He really said that. No way. How can someone be so rude? I can't take it.

I stomped my feet on the ground instinctively, and both brothers were scared—they tried consoling me.

"Hey hey! Don't be sad. He's just like that—we'll talk to him, right?"

Nickel is concerned? What could be the reason? I should use this opportunity.

I held my eyes and crouched, hugging my knees as if I was crying.

"No no no no!!... please don't cry. Oh god, what should we do?!?"

"How do I know? I've never handled a woman before... erm. Nickel! What do you know about women?"

"I don't know. I heard they are hard to understand!!"

"What are you saying?? You are making me more anxious!!"

Can these two shut the hell up and say something to me?

I snorted and started letting out some crying noises.

"Oh no, she's crying!!"

Outside the office, Julius was drinking coffee, looking at the transparent wall between them.

"Why the hell are they dancing? Or am I seeing things? I should get my regular checkup."

These both are helpless. If these two were left alone at night, they'd die from the darkness alone.

Where is our evolution heading?

These men don't even know how to console someone?

Then an image of Welver flashed in her eyes.

Nevermind.

I stood up, hid my face with my palm, and was slowly leaving.

"Oh no, look she's leaving!!"

"Oh my god, she's leaving!!"

"Do something Nickel!!"

"Ohk! Let me try. Erm... Hey girl, can we help you in anything?"

That's my chance.

"I'm just a weak woman surviving in this company alone. I barely have money after paying my rent. (Snort) I might die at this rate."

I hid my face and lowered it.

"So... so..."

Nickel was confused as he bit his nails.

"You want a good job?"

"Wait... do you mean that?"

Suddenly their complexion changed.

What do they mean by "that"?

"If it is something dangerous, please show mercy and let me leave."

I can't get in trouble more.

"Yeah, it is dangerous though."

Nickel rested his hand on his waist and looked up, closing his eyes.

"It is dangerous," said Cupra calmly.

I was leaving just then I heard something interesting.

"Hey Nickel, I already said that, right? No one's gonna say yes for 40 thousand dollars. At least we should increase the price."

40 THOUSAND DOLLARS?!

That's more than my salary per annum.

I know I shouldn't be greedy... If I waited a little bit, they might increase the price—but what if they hired someone else?

"I'M IN!"

Oh shit! Was it too obvious? Am I done for?

"Hey look, she's happy now!"

Nickel and Cupra's faces filled with smiles.

"Yeah! I knew she was the one who can do it perfectly!"

"What do you mean? I was the one who suggested it!"

They both pointed fingers at each other and started their war on who chose me first.

Far away, Julius was passing again as he saw this.

"Caroline? She must've done something. But making the Brothers fight? She's on a different level."

He smirked and left.

Birds were chirping outside as I was sitting on the BROTHERS' chair, chilling while these two were busy.

Nickel went to make some soup for me, and Cupra was making a chart explaining the plan.

I feel like I'm really the CEO today. Thank God I was the one who did the presentation, not Charles.

"Soup's ready, miss!"

Nickel came in and served me the soup and stood up like a professional analyst.

Am I the panel now? And these two—the highest stakeholders of this company—are giving a presentation to me?

How many lives' worth of luck am I using today??

"So, let's start," Cupra began explaining.

"You have to become our—both of our—PA."

That doesn't sound bad.

Personal assistant? I might be clumsy, but 40k might make me professional.

"So, what's the dangerous thing in it?"

As my words came out, Cupra opened his chart he was drawing in.

I swear, even a kid draws better than him—but I can relate, as I also sucked at writing.

"You actually have to become our date advisor."

Date advisor?

"Date advisor?" I stood up from my seat.

"Hey chill! Let us explain."

I sat and started hearing them blabber about the whole thing.

In simple words, they both are officially hiring me as a PA.

But I'll actually be their dating coach.

Because these two are very fond of their wealth and don't want to be trapped in any alimony cases.

Instead, they will let me live in their mansion—private room, 40k pay every month, and I can use all the services in the mansion. Order around any maid.

The reason they are hiring me as a PA is because they're scared that cold, headless monkey—Gehrmensch—might fire me and scold them for not even having the ability to go on dates.

Seems simple. I just have to hide from that CEO and help these two get a trustworthy life partner.

I guess all planets are siding with me.

I'm going to enjoy every single minute from now on.

I crossed my legs and spread my arms, resting on the chair.

Nickel and Cupra, surprised, took a step back.

"Listen, monkeys!!"

"Monkey??" they both said in confusion.

"Yeah! From today, I'm your boss. Of course not around that CEO—but from now on, you both have to follow my orders."

They both faced the board, leaned near each other, and started discussing things.

Did I just ruin my luxury life???

"She doesn't seem angry as before."

"Right, right! Look, she's even enjoying. I heard girls are rare to be physically expressive!"

"Nickel! That's a bad way to think."

"Oh, I'm really sorry. But see, she isn't mad anymore. We're now on the right track."

(...)

What are these two discussing?

This time felt like a fever dream.

Am I done for? I should apologize instantly!

As she stood up, both brothers felt goosebumps.

They whispered,

"Hey, did you make the soup bad?"

"No, you took too much time explaining. She might be angry."

"What should we do?"

"Let's apologize!"

They both turned toward me.

Oh no! I should do it quickly. I was about to bow but these two?

Nickel bowed faster than me, and Cupra was on the floor.

"Hey hey, what are you two doing?"

What the hell is happening?

"This is called Japanese-style apology!!"

"Uh oh... okay! Now get up."

It seems like a confusion! Let them do the job. Wait, Caroline.

"Sorry we took time deciding. Yes, master, we accept your proposal."

This feels like a dream...

If it is, I don't want to wake up.
