Anu'sPOV:
I went to school and sat at my usual spot on the bench. Our classes had resumed, and everyone's face wore the same tired expression. The kind that only early mornings and long lectures could carve.
I was chatting with my best friend, Bille—we always sat next to each other—when, out of nowhere, our teacher walked into the classroom and hit us with a surprise: a test.
A collective groan swept the room.
She shuffled our seating arrangements, but by some twist of fate, Sam and I ended up next to each other. As he settled into the seat beside me, he leaned closer and whispered, "Help me in this test, Anu."
I raised an eyebrow and murmured back, "Okay… if I know the answers."
And somehow, I did. So I helped him—and he helped me too, in his own clever way. That's how we made it through the test, side by side, sharing glances and scribbled hints.
By the time the fourth period ended, lunch had finally arrived like a hero in a weary tale. I ate my lunch, laughing and gossiping with Bille and the rest of our little group.
As for Sam—he was across the field, playing, wrestling, and cracking jokes with his friends, just like always. That mischievous sparkle was still dancing in his eyes, like it never left.
I didn't realize it then, but I had been watching him for far too long—without even knowing why.
After the break, another subject dragged us back to our desks. Boring chapters, endless explanations. The usual. Hours crawled by until, at last, the clock struck four. Freedom.
When I got home, I finished my homework and put on some music. I don't know why, but while the notes played softly around me, my thoughts drifted to him again. To his voice. His grin.
It gave me butterflies. The kind that flutter quietly at first, but you know they're going to stay for a while.
That night, as I lay in bed staring at the ceiling, the silence around me felt heavier than usual. The music had stopped, but the rhythm of his laughter still echoed in my mind. I thought about the way he looked at me during the test—not just for answers, but with something softer in his eyes, something curious. I hugged my pillow a little tighter, a small smile tugging at my lips.
Maybe it was nothing. Maybe it was just another ordinary day.
