Chapter 2 - Talking trash

His pupils constricted. He had read enough of Legacy of Heroes and played its games to know there was no one with the name Severin Reignhart. "Not even in conversation. I've not come across the name before. Well, maybe the character is some kind of secret powerhouse?"

His mind rebelled at the thought of being in the body of a character that had no use. And the reason was because he knew how brutal it was to be weak in the world of Legacy of Heroes.

"As far as I know, the system of this world is broken, but it could still come up with basic information." He had even written a review on how the author made the system broken and how the characters had to use their sweat and blood to advance. "Maybe I should have piled on the author instead."

"Status window!" he ordered firmly.

At first, nothing happened, but then a blue screen projection opened in front of him with a list of basic information.

[ Name: Severin Reignhart

Advancement Stage: Awakened

Talent Ability: Command – Grants a 300% boost to anyone bound to the host and following his orders

Talent Ability Rank: F ]

Severin stared. And stared. Before, when he knew that he had been transported into such a brutal world, he held a little hope that he would be able to do something, maybe find a way to survive. All his hope was pinned on this Talent Ability and its Rank.

Those two are some of the most important things in the world. Everyone is born with a Talent Ability, but it's so small and unnoticed in the majority of people that it's not even worth talking about.

But those who have risen above that limitation are called Etherion users, or as most people call them, Heroes. Their Talent Ability is then ranked based on how they could absorb and control Etherion – the energy of the world – and how well they could use their Talent Ability.

It's ranked from E to S.

Severin swallowed. "So there's even an F Rank. It was just such a useless Rank that the author didn't even use it. It's a trash rank. And what is this Talent Ability? It doesn't even make me stronger? It's for other people?"

Severin looked at the rising sun, and he finally understood why he was sent to his new world. "A death sentence. I've been given a death sentence."

"A trash Talent Ability and a trash Talent Ability Rank. I wonder who I pissed off. Don't people in this kind of situation get some kind of cheat or an artifact or ancestor treasures?"

"Fuck. A brutal world and then this Zenith Hero Academy, where it's better to call it a breeding place where students are all pushed in to know who's the most brutal and can step on the other the most?"

Severin took several deep breaths and finally studied his environment.

He had walked far from the dorm, and the street was filled with students going about their morning training routines.

A bulky boy that was wearing armor that would have crushed Severin was squatting down the road.

Two boys blurred past Severin so fast the only thing he saw was their shadows, and even that was fleeting.

He saw more and more scenes like that. But one thing he noticed was that no one spared him a glance. He might as well have been a stone or the dirt under their shoes. His weak presence was as if he were a non-living thing, something not worthy of attention.

Severin turned his back and walked back to the dorm. The dorm had come alive with students hurrying to get ready for class. At the front of the dorm gate, he saw something that gave him insight into the situation of the dorm.

"Year One, Dorm 5."

Severin understood. Even in the same school year, Zenith Hero Academy still segregated the students based on their Talent Ability Rank, since it's the best indication that shows their level of strength in the same Advancement Stage.

Class 5 being the weakest, while it climbed up to Rank 1 as the strongest.

So it was only natural that the dorm of the weakest class should be in the state of falling apart.

Severin returned to his room to prepare for class. He moved his body automatically as his mind and brain worked on how he could survive his current situation. What he wanted was slowly taking place in his mind, and that was his absolute survival.

But to survive, he knew it was impossible without strength.

He was thinking hard when he heard a scream that was quickly cut off. Severin turned towards where the sound came from. It was from the bunk of the boy who shouted at him earlier.

This time, he was sitting on the bottom bed while a sobbing student was cleaning his shoes.

"I'll continue to hit you with each spot you miss," he growled. He was a bulky guy, muscular and tall. His brown eyes were filled with cruelty.

Severin was surprised because now that it was daylight, he saw that he knew the character. He was Derrick Vance. And the reason that he made a flash appearance in the book was because he was a bully that got beaten by an even bigger bully.

He's a short-tempered brute who enjoys beating those who are weaker than him, even though his own Talent Ability Rank is E. But he has the Strength Ability, which gave him an edge compared to others.

Suddenly, Derrick's eyes swung towards Severin. "What are you looking at? Do you want to die? Don't worry, I will beat you later when I'm back from class. This time, it will be a beating that will leave you unable to talk, so you won't disturb my sleep again!"

Severin looked away with his jaw clenched. He tried his best not to show his anger. Instead, a calm look took over his face as he carried his bag and turned around. "A lot can happen before class ends."

And with that, he left the room in measured steps.

Derrick Vance was stunned. So were some of the students that heard Severin. "That absolute trash can talk?"
