"Eh... ehโ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”?!!!"

Everyone was dumbfounded.

After working hard for a week to prepare for the S-rank promotion, the first test turned out to be this.

"Master! This...isn't right! Aren't we here for the S-level assessment? How can you give us test questions?!" Natsu protested immediately. He didn't like this, and his eyes glazed over at the sight of the questions.

"Yeah! Master! We're here to be promoted to S-class wizards!" Gray chimed in. Although Gray is usually calm and capable, it doesn't mean he's good at academics. He was about to pass out.

Not only Natsu and Gray but almost everyone else preferred using their fists to solve problems rather than their brains.

Master Makarov put on a stern face and said in a low voice: "Aiden said that as an S-level mage in the guild, one requires not just strength but also wisdom, otherwise they would be considered strong but simple-minded fools."

"I think Aiden's point is very valid. As a wizard, no, as a human being, wisdom should come first. Hence, I believe the first test is very reasonable."

"Clap!"

Aiden clapped his hands and said, "Alright, let's get started. The exam time is limited. Instead of wasting time resisting, it's better to solve a few more questions. Don't worry, the questions I set are very simple; they're all elementary school level."

With no choice, everyone found a place to sit and work.

Aiden handed out the test papers one by one.

"The exam time lasts until we arrive at Monster Island. Let's start answering the questions now."

"This... this... what are these questions?!"

When Natsu saw the questions, he yelled out in bewilderment, and everyone else had similar expressions.

"Any questions?"

"Doubts? Doubts everywhere?"

"Question 1: There are a total of 14 chickens and rabbits in a cage, with 38 legs in total. How many chickens and rabbits are in the cage?"

"There's also Question 2: Alex's family raised 57 chickens and rabbits. Given that the total number of legs is 144, how many chickens and rabbits has Alex's family raised?"

"Question 3: Chickens and rabbits are in the same cage. There are 12 more chickens than rabbits, and there are 132 chicken legs. How many chickens and rabbits are there?"

"Question 4: There are 122 legs of chickens and rabbits in a large iron cage. The number of chickens is 1 more than three times that of rabbits. How many chickens and rabbits are there in the iron cage?"

"Question 5: There are chickens and rabbits on the farm..."

"Question 6: The dragon sets the number of rabbits..."

...

"Question 10: ???"

"It's all chickens and rabbits, what kind of questions are these?! How am I supposed to know how many there are?! And what's the tenth question?"

Aiden smiled and said, "Isn't this good? Most of the time, if you know one question, you can figure out the others."

"If I tell you the answer, am I taking the test or are you? These are just math problems for five or six-year-olds. You wouldn't want to admit you're worse than a five or six-year-old, would you?"

"As for the tenth question, I'll explain it when the exam is about to end."

"Well..."

"You've already wasted five minutes..."

Natsu stopped talking, and the others focused on the paper, attempting to calculate.

Time passed, and several people were scratching their heads anxiously.

"Damn it... I don't understand it at all!" Gray made several assumptions on the test paper and barely solved the first question. The method was simple: verify assumptions one by one.

Didn't it state there are 14 chickens and rabbits in total? Assume there is 1 chicken and 13 rabbits, calculate the number of legs, and if it doesn't fit, try another assumption.

Almost everyone calculated in that way. The first question was manageable, but the second question was more complex and time-consuming.

The third question was easy, but the fourth one became difficult again.

"I wonder how the others are doing?" Gray glanced sideways.

"Eh?!!"

He was taken aback when he saw Natsu with a dazed expression, repeating: "Chicken...rabbit...legs...lots of legs...so confusing...ugh..."

Suddenly, Aiden smiled and said, "Time's almost up. How are you doing?"

"So fast?!"

They were startled, realizing more than an hour had passed, though it felt like only ten minutes.

"Now, let's announce the last question."

"The last question?"

"The last question is simple. It's a multiple-choice question: Continue or give up?"

Erza frowned and asked, "Continue or give up? What do you mean?"

"It means exactly what it says: whether to continue the assessment or to give up.

If you continue, after the examination, your answers will determine whether you pass the first test.

If you pass, you can proceed to the second test.

Those who fail will be eliminated.

If one of the two partners qualifies, the other will be eliminated if they fail."

"While giving up the assessment offers a significant advantage.

You'll automatically qualify for the next S-level assessment.

This qualification isn't only for the three participants this time but for everyone currently taking the exam."

"What?!!"

In addition to Erza, Mira, and Cana, there are three partners, Gray, Elfman, and Natsu, currently taking the exam.

In other words, if Gray, Elfman, or Natsu give up, they'll automatically qualify for the next S-level exam. This is undoubtedly a big temptation for them.

"However... Firstly, I want to say that since you are partners, you're a team. If one gives up, it means the other gives up too."

Many people's expressions changed upon hearing Aiden's words.

"So... now is the time for you to make a choice."
